Gday Flodyboy...
who is the villian? I guess it depends where you sit... For people in the metro areas I can't see the TV situation changing anytime soon.. There will be 2 channels until 1 goes belly up... In the bush on the other hand, we have Austar.. For some strange/clever reason TVN is not allowed to be shown on Austar, because of a contractual agreement that prevents horse racing from Australia to be shown on any other channel, other than SKY, if that channel is delivered to subscribers by satellite. I hope that makes sense.. What that means is that in the city if you receive pay tv by cable you will get TVN .. if you get your pay tv delivered by satellite you won't .. From what I can work out there will be a compromise regarding payments from TAB Corp (they own SKY) and the mob who run TVN .. When that is done TVN will be available to Austar subscribers.. You will still have to flick between 2 channels for the forseeable future..
To the original question about fault... I think there is fault on both sides.. Racing NSW got well and truly kicked in the court for it's ridiculous stance re what the Sydney Race Clubs could and could not do with their TV rights.. To my way of thinking, how the people running RNSW are still there is beyond me.. some of these people are the same peole who have pretty well buggered the harness racing in NSW, and as you can see they have done the same with the TV broadcasting of Horse racing.. There is also fault to be laid at the feet of TAB Corp.. Like any monopoly, they thought (wrongly) that they were the only group capable of delivering the races to tv via Sky channel.. How wrong were they? They will tell you that it is only about 10% of the total raves that they are not covering.. what a load of garbage.. it may be 10% but it is the MAIN 10% that people are interested in.. Think of your brain as being 10% of YOU.. how well are you going to go without your brain? They are now involved in petty crap about denying TVN access to their odds.. you will notice that TVN uses UniTab divvies for Sydney and Victorian meetings.. IMO Eventually sky/TabCorp will try the Copyright angle that has crashed and burned so spectacularly in the British Courts.. and waste more of their shareholders money..
In the end when all parties pull thier heads in (they will have to) everybody will have 2 channels available to them.. Until one of them crashes.. This is just my reading od what is going on... As a country subscriber to Austar.. I feel that we inthe country are the people truly affected by this blue.. at leas the city folk can get TVN for 12 bucks a year on cable..

Disgraceful situation caused & perpetuated by moronic greed & arrogance.
Haven’t been able to see a vic/melb/syd race for god knows how long & won’t be betting on one until I can.
Watch the panic set in once spring starts to warm up & turnover fails to do the same.

hey floydboy,,,i think you will find its the moneypot dickheads that dont want share with anyone...i have 3 net accounts and the only bet i'll have with and tab is a quaddie...there is only 1 way to hurt that kind of thought process and thats make them stand up at the next share holders meeting and explain why there shares are going down in value, becouse when the shit hits it most of the time sticks.....cheers gaz...

Not quite right there. This whole thing is one great mess. I know that Foxtel Cable analogue subscribers cannot at present access TVN. They have to upgrade to the Foxtel Digital network.

todays paper suggests that the tab investment trend in nsw has reversed by 4.5% so far. dont know how much that is but i guess its a lot of money.
hope the race clubs are happy i assume they will get a lower distribution that has now to be offset by tvn which is unlikely.
its all very well establishing the rights of sale of your own product but lets hope the product is a good one.
