As a Victorian I have been watching this horse Badger's Wood running around our Metro tracks with stunning success over the past month and would like to find out people's opinions on this future chances. Is he a super winter horse or a future spring champ?
He led for most the Warrnambool Cup until the jockey dropped the whip and he faded to 4th. He then lost by 1/2L to The A Train over 2500 at Flemington then has won his last 3 over 2040 then 2375 then back to 2040 on the w/e.

I heard his trainer say that he didn't think the horse was a spring horse. My thoughts is that he is the best stayer going around at the moment and although he left his run for spring this year too late, I reckon he's a future Cups star. (I see that Eskander has given him odds for the Cup). Few stayers have the heart of this thing and string wins over varied distances like he has.

What is everyone's thoughts?

I've backed him a few times, but he's no spring champion.

Aussie stayers ranks are thin but not that thin.

Winter horses rarely can compete with top spring horses. He's handy though, so could pick up a few more races over the next 12 mths.

But as for the Cups - no.

With all due respect, and the fact that the owner, or relative of the owner contributes to this forum, I shall tone down my reply a little.

Badger's Wood is no doubt a handy horse with a bit of ability, but it certainly isn't up to Group 1 status on what he's done so far.

TRIVIA FACT:- Last campaign BW also strung together three wins in a row, a win at Donald 2000m, Flemington 2000m, and Caulfield 1800m. He also runs well first up with a Win and a 3rd from two starts First up. Well he certainly is versatile, you rarely see a distance horse able to perform firtup over 1200m.
