Gday Crash

I read that article about ratings from that other site... I am afraid I use something more like Benford to make my price lines, rather than the other way and it has served me well.. the other way seems pretty convoluted to me.. What do u reckon?

21st November 2005, 11:30 AM
'Convoluted' is about right. Interesting read though. I like the Benford approach too. I only use my ratings as a base line anyway, looking for peaks and other things on top of those before selections. Even intuition plays a part:-)

Lismore R7/9 Bunger and 10 Watch your step [wins only, but havn't checked the PP]. With my other 2 tips, that's me for the day and I haven't put too much work into it. Bit buggered from the w/end.

Good luck.

Lets see if my eye is in better today.

Townsville race 1/4 Miami Vice. Ran the 1200m at this track in 1.08.19 in a C1 [won]. Up in class to a C4 but a !.08 is a 1.08 and that would win a city handicap!!! Nice barrier and will do me for today's bet.

The 68.19 is a 68.91 from where I sit. Nearly 1 second's difference.

The preceding race was 69.19 for a CLASS 6.

Furthermore it only won by 0.2 lengths.

Enough evidence to discredit the 68.19.

just out of curiousity, checked the form of Miami Vice.
Seems it's a 21 year old mare.
With the cart horses being dragged out of the woodwork all over the country these days to feed the insatiability(is that a word?) of wall to wall racing, It would not surprise me.
Would the horse be Miami Ice by any chance?

xptdriver
22nd November 2005, 11:50 AM
Even though I dont like Miami Ice in the race we are talking about.. there seems to be some confusion about its form.. My form is the cyberhorse punter form and it says :

MIAMI ICE

won a class 2 race at Townsville by .2 on 27/10 with 54 kg 1200m 68.91s
won a class 3 race at Townsville by .2 on 11/11 with 54.5 kg 1000m 57.18s

Interesting drop in distance

Today it is going around in a class 4 with 55 kg. 1200 m.. It has had 5 goes at the distance for the one win, no placings.. It has had the same Jock as today for the last 4 starts Its career reads 19/4/2/0 and was 2.5 on the NSW TAB when I looked.. seems a bit short for me.. but will probably win by panels :)

I am in no way knocking this horse.. just presenting the form that I have.

An interesting one at Sale today. Race 3-10 Aisle. Don't know an awful lot about this horse, but I know a lot about the name.

I've been betting for ages, since the late 70s in fact. However, I only really decided to start taking it seriously and start studying the races properly in early 1989. Well, the very first horse I ever put in my "blackbook" of horses to follow was a Victorian horse called AISLE and guess what - it duly came out next start and won the Victoria Handicap at Caulfield in March of 89 at nice odds. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Well, here we are, 16 years down the track and I almost feel obliged to have something on this one today. I'd probably look at saving on numbers 15 and 12 though, and maybe throw 16, 1 & 6 in for multis or something.

Anybody with an opinion on this race???

Imagele
22nd November 2005, 01:58 PM
5/14 btn 2.4L Sale mdn. 1200m at 1st and only race start might be good enough reason to support it regardless of the name.
Interestingly the horse that beat it that day, Splendid Fellow, won it's last start, C2 at Toowoomba.
Currently $9-10 on supertab.

Yeah my opinion is it is a garbage race... Full of non performers for mine.. having said that something has to win..

I would think betting around 15-12-1-6 you should be able to find the winner... (13 and 16 for the multis)...It is a pretty low quality affair.. not too many place getters amongst them, and a couple of first starters, but there has to be a winner and they pay in aussie currency if you can find the winner

Good luck with it.... I think u may need it :)

If that is the same horse, and it's age is correct, the owners, trainers and jockeys should be ashamed of themselves.

A 21 year old mare is far too old to be racing in any race.

Yes, I couldn't see it happeneing, although it has happened in the past.

Also AISLE is second up today, not the same horse Sportz backed way back when.

I don't understand how they can let horses have the same name ever.

In 20 years, it's going to get very confusing, what if this horse is something special and wins the same feature race. Or a Melbourne Cup, what pray tell, do they do then?

Any historian is going to have two horses with the same name winning the same race 20 plus years later, or a horse not capable, winning a Melbourne Cup 20 plus years later.

Just does not make sense to me.

I just might go and buy a yearling and name it Phar Lap, reckon they'd let it through?

Well, I thought it's form was okay, but I must admit the name had a fair bit to do with backing the horse.

Had a nice little bet on it and a saver on the 15. I didn't take a trifecta, but I did have a quinella and any2 including the 8, so a nice result.

Mad,

I've mentioned this before. I noticed previously that when the Unitab late mail tips start at $10+, you can get some very nice results. I think someone came back with some figures which suggested that it wasn't actually that great, but as far as I'm concerned, I reckon you could do worse than at least include them in multis.

Well, that was what I found once when I did a little study of the late mail. Back the whole lot of them and you'll certainly go backwards. But I noticed that if you only backed the ones at double figures (which wasn't very many), you could sometimes get some nice results. As I said, that was only a short test though.

Why is the "Quaddie" such a HUGE deal in Victoria? (I assume you come from Victoria). When I listen to Sport927, I get the impression that it's almost like an unspoken thing that if you live in Victoria, you simply HAVE to take a quaddie.

Yep.

Quaddies are the stuff legends are made of...... During the cricket season, every drinks break would involve discussions of who won the last..... even had guys field at fine leg to hear the races on the car radio - over the fence..... Many a story has been re-told around the bar.... not of the "Michelle Phiffer" someone got one Saturday..... but the big Quaddie they "caught"....

They are a fine institution..... yet to secure a BIG one myself.... but gotta be in it to win it....

Why is the "Quaddie" such a HUGE deal in Victoria? (I assume you come from Victoria). When I listen to Sport927, I get the impression that it's almost like an unspoken thing that if you live in Victoria, you simply HAVE to take a quaddie.
No I don't live in Victoria but I bet only on Victorian racing.
I can't explain my fixation with exotic betting except that you tend to get hooked.
I once collected $3300-00 for a $12-00 outlay and have been dabbling ever since.
I don't outlay huge amounts on this form of betting hence the continuing frustration at regularly going close but almost always missing out.
Today I had Alto Adige, Erskine Bay and Balla Marie 1st leg, Kildonan Road, Grand Legend and I Do Blue 2nd leg, Danzigs Delight, Pharsna Mugwump and Beetoo 3rd leg into North Alert one out. Cost, $18-00/50c unit.
Another fixation I have is trifecta betting.
If I could show you the list of long priced winners I have had over the years and never collected a cent because of missing the places in correct order, you would have me locked up.( usually outlay $10-00-$20-00 with 2 selections to win and other combinations for 2nd and 3rd.)
I often think I will have to take a break and come back a reformed win only bettor.

Well, you wouldn't back him in every race! In fact, I only backed him in one race yesterday. The last race. If you hadn't already noticed, I love backing certain jockeys in the last race of the day providing they're on a good chance.

Or you could open a NSW betting account and go flexi-betting........ might lower the % of the divy, but it does allow you a little wider scope for the same outlay....... just a thought.... That's what I do and I'm a Victorian (and proud of it !)..... only thing is I have to wait to go fishing at Yarrawonga to make a withdrawal..... but that's a good excuse to go fishing (not that I need one to sit on the Mighty Murray River bank with a can in one hand, races on the radio, form guide on the lap, line in the water....... and no bait on the hook!).

Actually going fishing next week...... 1 December is the re-opening of cod season..... see if I can build the bank a little bit more before then - so my week away doesn't cost me a red cent - love it when the punt funds my lifestyle..... :D

Good Luck fella.

I just recently opened a NSW online account and it is the best thing i have ever done. The flexi bet option a ripper, you can snare some OK divys for tiny outlays. The first four in the last at sydney on saturday was not hard to get at all and i only had it for 5% and for an 80 dollar return, not bad.

Stix - you don't have to go to NSW to withdraw do you? Can't you just transfer the funsds from your betting account to your bank account?

Cheers,

i've never understood the hoo ha about snapper to me they are a mother in law fish, great to catch but crap to eat...i did catch one around 17k last year it was a big mean looking bugger(it would have given mike tyson a run for his money)
but i let the big bugger go so he could go out and find many a fair maiden to make more reef busters...we are pretty spoilt were i live,,,dhu fish are our target fish, and a sweeter meat you'll never eat..........cheers.gazman

G'day Stix
I've been waiting patiently for flexi betting to come to Supertab due to the merger with NSW.
I reckon there are some big punters around creaming the exotic pools who do not want flexi betting on Supertab.
This type of betting might make it less lucrative for any type of race fixing that might go on in relation to exotic betting, particularly the quadrella.
Still can't get over the run of that maiden in the last race at sale yesterday at 100/1.
The favourite in a very ordinary race out of the place.
Wonder what the opponents of betfair have to say about that.

Gday gaz...

u say u target dhu fish... Are u a sandgroper? I might be wrong but I always knew dhu fish by our east coast name of pearlies.... But the ones in the west grow far bigger... about 6 kg has been the best i have ever landed.. that would be a baby in the west

As for reddies... now ya talking... where i live , is THE reddie place on the Nth Coast of NSW (IMHO) Like anywhere else, you need to know where to look, but we have a few grounds in very shallow water, close to shore, when the water is warm they are also great mackeral (spanish) grounds as well.. Just float the pillie back in the current with a bit of berley, no or little weight... and hang on... those big red buggers really know how to put on a show, particularly on light gear.. 17 kg is beauty, my best is about 12kg... We usually keep one or two and release the rest.. wrap a nice big reddie in foil, fill him with prawns and oysters and whatever else you wanna stuff him with and. mmmmmmmmmmmmm ..starting to drool like homer :) we usually put em on the barbie with a few beers at the end of the day and they are magnificent... and if you keep bringing a feed home it keeps the girls happy as well... I think I should go load the boat up now.... hangon there is a race somewhere today

i live 400ks north of perth and you only catch wa dhu fish in cape naturaliste its the only place in the world, but apart from that you and i would catch very much the same fish and like you and ts we let most go and just keep enough for a feed, but mind you when you get fish around the 20k mark you dont have to keep many to have good feed in the feezer......

Hi Gazman, xpt and co..I used to catch em mainly off Frankston Vic, and didnt chase any other species...used up to 7 rods at a time, conditions permitting...but never caught any near as big as 17kg...sounds like SA or WA territory to me.

I agree not much chop eating the big ones..but fun to catch. A 10kg one can be 70 yrs old... or more .. so no wonder they dont taste all that great LOL

we get em big here in NZ too, but they dont fight anywhere nearly as well, pound for pound, as those Victorian ones do..at least thats what I experienced.

Fishing on the Murray for Murray Cod is something I never got around to doing. I like the baitless hook idea...much less work and nothin to get in the way of studying the form LOL.

No..just a truly dedicated punter Sportz..and there's nothin wrong with that.

I last went fishing in FNQ a few months ago and I must say that it doesn't seem to do it for me like it used to... I'd like to see fish stocks increasing dramatically rather than disappearing. well... U have the wonders of great fishing at your doorstep... I went with a woman from there for about 3 years, she writes for the Mercury.. when she was at work I would fish to my hearts content... Normally I would go down the harbour with my gear and some pilchards for bait.. always on the north wall of the harbour, where the ships are and cast out on to the surfside of the wall and just hang on.... Mackeral, Trevally, emperor you name it.. I caught it there... A great place.. Some days i would jump in the car and go to shute and have a fish in that area.. BUT my all time fav area is Seaforth... I would love to retire there... quiet, easy access to the sea, nice backwater... plenty of sandflies and crocs tho... I think I might load the car up and head there right this minute LOL

Great second rated horse result yesterday (and the value bet) at Pinjarra yesterday..My Lady Canaman..paid $19.10 and 3.80 on Qtab.

Didnt back it myself..WA is 4 hrs behind me in time...but I hope others picked up on it.

I might have to look more closely at these WA horses and extend my betting day..lol. Finished well ahead with Wallarah Boy yesterday ..but I'm still suffering from TMS it seems.

All the best

Gday w924...

yeah that flu floored me yesterday just after lunch... came up for air about 8 or so...

Yesterday the horses in this thread did not do so well, but u cannot win every day, overall they are still very nicely in profit...

As for the West... found 4/5 in this thread on wednesday at Ascot, but that has been the best for me since they shifted from Belmont.. Pinjarra is still a bit of a mystery to me, I think they have remodelled the track so maybe I need to look at a few more meetings before I get gungho about the place..

I hope to find some more winners :) and juicy place getters

Well Xp good to see you are up and about today

Did you notice how many outside barrier horses placed yesterday at Pinjarra? I dont know if this track is going to advantage them or if it was a one off day for outside barriers...
of the 8 races, three outside barrier winners, 3 additional outside barrier places and 2 second to outside barrier placings

divvies. .win, 2.70, 4.20, 19.60

place: 1.30, 2.70, 3.80, 2.70, 2.40, 2.10, 3.10,7.40

what makes it even more remarkable is that 4 of the five placings were 2nds..

and one race found the quinella

figures from Qtab and I may have even missed one placing ...but Im not going back over it again to verify... I've made my point...lol

Ah yes that would explain two of the winners..al la Flemington straight...I know nothing about wa racing lol

A lot of placegetters and another winner at longer distances though...

Seriously though, I don't know why it should pay anything like $13.60 when it won over this exact course and distance at it's last start!

Anyway, I took Gold Buckle with the field in an any2 and got $98.90 back from $12. Very happy with that, especially when I now look at the skinny dividends for the Duets on Supertab!!! Obviously a LOT of people down there also like my field idea.

The horses I have posted, originally i said they were pretty good for place betting, but they do throw up some nice winners... at flat stakes over 500 bets so far and it showing about 8% ( for the win) so I am happy with that

Do you have parlay betting up there? I would suggest if you do, that a large place parlay was in play in that race, or maybe an allup place bet.. That would be the best way I can think of for the huge discrepancy.

We dont have any 2 betting here, but I hear that the TAB will soon be offereing my fav of all time.. running doubles... that is where I can make money with my ratings.. I think the RD's are better value than all ups.. just a feeling I get. Someone will be bound to produce figures that knock that statement off :)

What? No Hong Kong??? What's wrong with you??? :D

Does anyone have any 'expert' tips for the 4 big ones there today. I'm certainly no expert and I don't know that I'll even bet there because you seem to get some pretty strange results in these races. But having had a bit of a look at them, these were the ones I came up with:

R3 Vase - 1 WESTERNER, 8 Ouija Board, 9 Sweet Stream (1,8,9 - 4,6,12,2)
R5 Sprint - 3 CAPE OF GOOD HOPE, 1 Chineur, 2 Admire Max (3,1,2, - 7,8,12,13)
R7 Mile - 1 RAKTI, 3 Bullish Luck, 2 Asakusa Den'en (1,3,2 - 10,4,5,11)
R8 Cup - 2 VENGEANCE OF RAIN, 9 Alexander Goldrun, 10 Pride (2,9,10 - 1,8,6,3)

And just a few guesses for a bit of fun on the other races:
R1 - 8 SHANGHAI LAD, 7 Clean Sweep, 11 Rice Field (8,7,11 - 9,13,2,4)
R2 - 11 FLORAL PEGASUS, 10 Don Felipe, 3 Successor (11,10,3 - 8,4,1,9)
R4 - 5 HAIL THE STORM, 14 Flaming Lamborghini, 1 Art Trader (5,14,1 - 13,3,12,10)
R6 - 3 THISTLE KING, 12 Pocket Money, 4 All's Well (3,12,4 - 5,7,11,6)
R9 - 5 FIFTY FIFTY, 10 Joyful Winner, 2 Gem Of India (5,10,2 - 4,11,1,6)

Here are a few more to ahve a look at..

I hope there is a winner or 2 amongst this lot.. remember this is primarily a place finding method, but does throw up some nice winners every now and then. There will be races where place betting is not practical.. I will leave that to the individual to decide on that.. I have not culled those races out

I have been using 1*4 staking approach and it doesnt seem to do much damage.. Straight out win betting would have you further infront at present, but there WILL BE the inevitable run of 2nds and 3rds to contend with.. so I stick to the cautious way.. a Unit can be any amount you wish

They sure have, just got Cearnaigh @ Rocky. It's one I've followed for a while and I was a little weary of it being first up, but your good rating of it convinced me and had a "bigger" go at it - thankfully.

Hi xptdriver,

Hard at it again I see, for us freeloaders ;)

I appreciate your tips, and have done so for quite some time.

Do you have any figures or stats for your ratings?

I'm of the opinion, that it's definitely worth having something on those at 10/1 or better. There have been quite a few over that price get up.

I'm going to have to get a second mortgage approved for all those runners though :(

Gday Chrome
this is really only a fun method, that has proven to be OK.

I can say that for this method, since I have been playing with it there have been, (b4 today) 767 qualifiers for 186 WINS AV div of $4.5 for 9.17% profit.. that is using no filters...As I say, if we can get close to break even, a staking plan can make real money with em..

But we have enjoyed a pretty good run with em last week or so.. so they WILL STALL and revert to the average shortly

AS for my ratings this month there have been 667 Races so far, we have found the winner on top 188 times av div of $3.7.. for a flat stakes profit of 4.42% (that is rating each race covered by the NSW TAB and Alice Springs of a Saturday)..

Hope that helps...

Wow, you are on fire!

Rating all those races with a flat POT, can I borrow your spreadsheet?

(promise not to look at the formulae).

Gday Chrome

yeah it is a real big day for a Friday.. SYD MEL and ADEL all going around, as well as the usual suspects.. I wonder what is going on

We all have bad days on the punt, and I usually use your tips in conjunction with my longshots as insurance.

At the moment, yours are performing better, so I'm doing pretty well.

It's great to have a reliable backup plan.

I wonder how many people actually run an insurance plan like this?

Of course we could both have bad days and the loss would be greatly increased, but to date, it's panned out very well.

The odds of two independant strategies both having a bad day are pretty remote I think.

Gday Chrome

ya finally asked an easy one :)

Seriously, the formulae are so simple.. I worked the formulae out and it did manually in Excel for ages, ( ihave no clue of automation and macros) before a truly generous bloke who posts here, not often enough for my liking, made me a file that fully automates my formulae for me.. It even sorts em .. And he did it for nicks...We couldnt work out how to price em, so when I do price em I have do em manually... I use Cyberhorse Form as my basic data.. ( hope I can say that) Yesterday I was able to rate 32 meetings FR SAT SUN and MON and post the competed ratings to my web site between races 3 and 4 at Geraldton. what used to take me 2 hours or more is all done in under 20 minutes...

The forulae themselves involve all the usual suspects... beaten margins, win SR plc SR, and a couple of others.... cant give all of it away :)

xpt,

Yes the pricing would be quite complicated to do, and I think I know the guy you're talking about. O...c.

There are possibly two ways to automate the pricing.

The major problem is getting the total for each race calculated seperately, the rest is a breeze.

Either he could change the code to have it calculated automatically, by posting each race on a seperate worksheet, but in the workbook, making the odds calculation and then copying and pasting the field and odds to a front summary worksheet, or you could import the workbook to access or similar, and let access do the actual pricing.

It's not easy, you need someone with more advanced skills than this little black duck!

I've tried to do it before, but it's tricky because you have different field sizes.

Anyone have the winner of the last at the 'Brook.. paid better than 100 here... I certainly couldn't find it... rated it as the horse with the least chance in the race.. but I am sure someone will have backed it ...

Xpt thanks for your ratings i'm getting some nice results from them ;).

Do you keep your ratings archived? i wouldnt mind getting my hands on a copy for each race day for the last month or 2 if its possible.

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work :).

Gday RN

the best I can do is suggest that you keep em each day from the web page and make adjustments for scratchings as required.. I also put the on top/equal on top winners up on the site when I get the chance, but they are only there for a week maximum... It saves me having a zillion files to sort thru, thats why I do it the way I do... makes less work for me..

I am glad I have been of some sort of help to you in finding a winner or 2

No, didn't have it. I have mentioned once or twice a little longshot idea of mine involving backing the only horse in the race having it's first race start. But that's in maidens and in fields of 12+.
