Since I have not been here for a while, I have decided to end the bookie's thread and change the competition which will hopefully suit more people. In this new competition, each person will begin with $2000 and they can choose any horses to bet on each Saturday with any market etc UniTAB, SuperTAB. Please note that the price of the horse will count at the time of the start of the race etc no fixed odds. You can bet on a horse up to five minutes before its race. For any querier, please express them and good luck.

One thing I do find good in these competitions (and doing some of the results) is that I can see here on the forum who here actually knows what they are talking about and those who are just here for fun/entertainment. It definitely helps weigh the advice and comments posted.

Ahhh, you mean Mr Ed.

Mr J knows a fair bit about sport and sports betting, but I wouldn't trust his horse racing tips!!!

Anyway, I agree with you. You can't just tell by results in competitions like this who knows what they are talking about. Mr Ed is a great tipster and Raw Instinct certainly knows his stuff too.

I don't think you can judge competition results and come to conclusions, I for one use competitions to test theories in real time rather than use current successful strategies.

It's a great way to get a running picture of how it's panning out, and still be able to tweak "in running" without costing a penny.

For example, I entered the Godolphin competition and used the best overall Timeform rated horses, and fell flat on my xxxx.

So now I know to lay the timeform horses or use another method.

Yeah, I took the recent Fantasy Racing competition seriously. And I took that Ratings competition we had at the beginning of the year seriously as well. But apart from those, I just use the tipping comps on here for a bit of fun or experimentation. In fact, I usually only include horses that I'm NOT going to bet on. :D

makybe did you see how i worked out the balance.
you need to subtract the amount bet from the origional $2000
then add the total returned.

i.e I have bet total of 1800

2000 - 1800 = 200
I have won 1830

200 + 1830 = balance of 2030


you should apply this principal to all participants.

From now on, every week, each person is allowed to select a maximum of five horses each Saturday. Instead of betting on the horses, you will receive points for the horse you select placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd. A winning horse will gain 20 points, 2nd 10 points and 3rd 5 points. Now every once and a while, I will pick a particular race which will be worth double or triple points. Now the catch is: You start with 100 points and for every horse you select, you lose 10 points. So that means that if you pick five horses two weekends in a row and don't even back a place, you are out of the competiton. What are your thoughts?
