Gee that was some funny **** at the end of the Cup after the line the rider of Larson started to lay into the rider of I Do Blue then decided to hit him around the head with his whip pretty crazy stuff.

Believe it or not, I think he used to be a truck driver. Might get an opportunity to go back to that now. ;)
I didn't see it, but I heard the announcer commenting about it on the radio. Weird!

The rider of Larson did do a pretty good job of putting I Do Blue out of the race on the home turn certainly made sure it wasn't going to get a clear run then when they crossed the line I Do Blue had caught upto it again and I think he may have given the rider of Larson an ear full and he then turned and let him know what he thought of him pretty blood funny.

Would have been pretty interesting to see that.

just read the stewards report on this race and the rider of I Do Blue fired in a protest again Larson alleging interference from the home turn to the 200m mark but it was dismissed so the interference couldn't have been too bad.as for the other two incidences after the winning post well the inquiry has been adjourned to a date to be fixed.funny stuff though.

There was a fairly large check on the home turn but it more that Larson had the position and I Do Blue was trying to push out.

Yeah spot on Raw, that's what it was, plus whatever pills Danny Adam takes to help keep the weight off obviously has adverse affects on his temparement because he went psycho. Couldn't believe what I was watching when I saw it.

Hell of a day out. I think some of the jockeys got a bit 'into the spirit of things' in the cup. Hilarious stuff.
Wacky country cup day. Hot and lots of bare flesh.
We ended up with four 2nds. for our win bets in race 6,7,8,9 [Dooley's Bridge in race 9] an exacta and quin on the Cup and just missed the Tri. Nice exacta and quin though.
Typical S2 Cup meeting. Lots of fun :-)

From the Herald Sun:
Whip flies in race ruckus
Adrian Dunn
09jan06
A ROW that came to blows has landed jockey Danny Adam in hot water.
In an extraordinary confrontation after yesterday's Bairnsdale Cup, Adam clashed with apprentice Michael Guthrie, throwing a punch and swinging his whip at the rider.
As the pair rode side by side after the race, it appeared that Adam struck Guthrie on the lower right side of his face with his left hand.
About 25m later, Adam swung his whip towards Guthrie's head.
Slow-motion replays showed the whip apparently striking Guthrie's goggles, which had been pushed up on his skullcap. The force caused the goggles to fall back over Guthrie's eyes.
An angry Guthrie could be seen arguing with Adam as they eased their horses down.
When the jockeys returned to the mounting yard, a Racing Victoria steward followed the pair back into the jockeys' room.
Steward James Williams said there were no further altercations.
Stewards immediately opened an inquiry into the incidents, took evidence from both Adam and Guthrie, and viewed video footage before adjourning the inquiry to a date to be fixed.
Mr Williams said he hoped the inquiry would be resumed later this week or, if not, next week at the latest.
Mr Williams described the incidents as serious.
He said there was no evidence to suggest Guthrie physically contacted Adam during or after the race.
When asked about the incident with the whip, Mr Williams replied: "I can't comment too much on that, but it was pretty obvious that contact was made."
Mr Williams said there were no marks on Guthrie's face and the apprentice wasn't complaining of facial injuries.
To add to the drama, Guthrie, riding the sixth-placed I Do Blue, lodged a protest against Adam, riding Larson, alleging interference on the home turn. Stewards dismissed the protest.
Larson and I Do Blue raced side by side in third and fourth position for much of the race, but before the home turn Guthrie attempted to force his way from the inside of Larson.
The horses bumped three times and soon after I Do Blue lost his running when Larson drifted in.
After the winning post there appeared to be words between Adam and Guthrie before the incident escalated.
Adam is just three months into a comeback after being out of the industry for seven years during which he drove a truck and his weight ballooned to about 75kg.
He has been based at Cranbourne and has enjoyed a solid start to his bid to re-establish himself in the competitive jockey ranks.
Last month he rode a winner at Moonee Valley.
Jockeys who know Adam described the action as totally out of character.
Victoria Jockeys' Association chief executive Des O'Keeffe described Adam as a quiet, hard-working jockey who went about his own business.
"It's totally foreign to his character," Mr O'Keeffe said.

Hi Dr. Ron.
I forgot about the Volley Ball. My perfect excuse for picking four 2nds. instead of four winners:-) !!

Pleased you had a great day out Crash, despite the TMS syndrome..
that Bairnsdale race made national televison here in N.Z last night. They didnt show the race itself, (although it would have been live on our racing channel) but found the jockey altercation news-worthy and showed complete footage of that. LOL
All the best

Exactly the same here w924. Not much mention of anything else about the race except for the altercation.

What the news failed to mention [more importantly] about the Cup was ....'and Crash's 12/1 shot which was flying with a 3 length lead ....was nabbed just on the line by Biten Shaw' !!!

And as though to make a final, last ditch bid for Country Cup INFAMY, here's one last tidbit about the Bairnsdale Cup Day races I've just discovered:
Some GENIUS in the offices decided to mount these great ****** flags all the way down the straight, on the lawns. That's all very well, except it's like watching the horse race frame by frame, one frame you see the horses, next there's a dirty great flag in the way, next - the horses, then another flag, all the way to the post.
Crash, you live in a helluva place. I don't think any provincial Cup day could lay claim to such a string of incidents. All we need next is the cousins shagging sheep and we've got the lot.
