Percentages - advice please

A great forum with plenty of free info for we novices. Many thanks to all contributors.

I read recently 'although some winners pay 100% the place bets can pay 300%." Can anyone advise me how these percentages are figured out and how it affects staking?

Once this is understood then it will be easy to understand that because there are 3 placegetters, the more over 300% place odds are, the worse they are for the punter.

To calculate what any dollar odds are in % terms divide 100 by the odds.
Eg $2.00 = 50%, $4.00 = 25% and so on.
