Sorry guys i'm late...if you guys are ready with your summaries ,,just start the thread..dont wait for me i'll just join in.....hope you guys have worked extra hard this week,,,last week was dissapointing we need to fight back,,
Race 1.
Crappy race to start with,,,Pentathon after his last run has to be a chance but you have to remember he didnt spend a penny in transit last start and was entitled to finish that close.but i did like his last 50m or so....Very Canny is a consistant horse but no superstar but from the inside alley will probably jump favourite as he races handy so atleast he'll be in it when the whips are cracking..I like Laming with the stayers and he has a high opinion of Sir Coup ,,..Devastating is interesting ,,had the freshn after his last gold coast run..this run wasnt as bad as it looks on paper..JB had a shocker that day and got most of his horses in impossible positions ,the horse races best on this track and the distance is ok,,,weight and the lack of recent racing the only downside,,maybe they are looking at the cups later on Like the Caloundra or Ipswich..,he is the class in the race though and in a race with question marks on alot of runners he might be the way to go e/w at the odds....not a race to get overly excited about..
(i havent mentioned that Donkey Abu Simbel,,but it wouldnt surprise me to see him show what i thought he had,,,and thats a good sprint at the business end)
Pentathon the safe bet ,,,Devastating an e/w spec..
Pentathon/ Very Canny/ Devastating/Sir Coup ......
Race 2
Another ordinary race...i'm a fan of Tycoon Rose ,,shes as honest as they come ,,not sure shes been placed very well this prep with Bob prefering to take on the males but if it rains shes a chance...same with listen Pal the horse i think needs the sting out to show his best,,,,,Soul Diva is interesting,,this horse has good form on paper and the breeding suggests the extra 200m will suit,,,Mesmorising and Radar Orielly both had excuses last start and will like the track and distance.....the speed maps the key here..Soul Diva should lead with tycoon Rose and Partridge challenging...i dont see them going flat out here so i doubt that suits the bottom 2 ,,,King Of Soul the one who gets the drop on them from the good barrier and after the solid run last start a danger.....but might be to short to be on,,...i'll be looking at Soul diva in the mounting yard and if she looks the part i might be tempted ...
looks a race i'll be playing around with multis...and having alittle on Tycoon Rose as usual,,
King Of Soul/Soul DIva/Tycoon Rose..
Race 3.
Becks has got the grandstand ...but you'd still think hes to good for them...the two Generals the danger...these the only three i like... They could have claimed with Becks but they've stuck with Purton who knows the horse so well...i'd want the 6's in the paper or close to it...
but if it rains i'd lean towards Generals Command who even without the rain the 2nd rater and a good chance..,,
Becks carrying the grandstand and me for good measure :) fingers crossed for a price..
Race 4.
How good was Angel Girl last start...raced wide the whole way..granted they did walk which helped her...I'm a big fan of Plachutta and she won me a stack last start...i like the breed , the jockey, the trainer...and she won with alot up her sleeve last start...i think she might sneek under the radar here and be nice e/w odds....Angel Girl and Astounded the obvious dangers and i also thought Sweet As will appreciate the open spaces here..a very open race ....looking for value :)
Plachutta at 17's fixed...will take a piece of that and see how she looks game day...
Race 5.
Well whos going to beat Starlactic ?? i thought last start from the awkward barrier they might get him..but he beat them with contempt.....i cant have him at those odds though..i'll be looking for an e/w and i think i might get those odds with A Little Naughty,,this horse is in form..quick enough to take advantage of the inside and does have a good finish...the form around Becks is good and if Becks wins the 3rd i'll be even more confident....and dont leave that So Chic out of your multis,,,the horse has been running time.......Shame the prep for Imprisioned as hes a good horse ,,same with King rex...and if they go nuts up front watch for Zoes Lad charging late...
Race 6.
I'll be taking on Belmonte...just not convinced about him at the 2400m ,,he struggled to beat Master Dennis who i dont think is a stayer at all...just has class that gets him in it along way...Allow was super impressive last start as was Ice Chariot ..
Ice Charriot will have to come from a mile back again..can he do it again ??? I' think a nonwinner in Kincharm an e/w chance...i think this is his race..the horse has ability gets the good run with the top jock on board...he seems the safe bet to me .
Vision and Power finished nicely last start...Allow was super last start....they'll come for Ice Chariot and Belmonte so i might get the odds to back Allow and also Kincharm.....
Race 7.
Well i'm already on here...St Basil, La Montagna, Daunting Lad,,,i'm not backing anything else but instead have a big play with trifectas and 1st4s....St Basil has the horror inside barrier... la Montagna will need the private steer sprint lane but Daunting Lad will atleast make his own luck,,,,i thought Shania Dane and Star Shiraz good chances that have been mostly ignored by tipsters.....Hard to catch ,Consular and La Sizeranne also chances.......i've mentioned about 8 ...
I think in this race the horses to concentrate on are the ones that will get the good runs in the first part of the field ,,i doubt the usual breakneck speed you usually get in this,,,yes a big field so a solid temp but nothing crazy....also i like horses in this with the strong finish and can run 15 or even 1600m strong..
Shania Dane/ Daunting Lad/St Basil,,..because of the even tempo i think from the inside barrier St Basil wont be as far back as usual..maybe midfield...Cahill just needs a gap in the straight and he'll win......
going to be a great race as usual ...may the best horse win :)
Race 8.
Anca the best bet of the card,,,from the inside with the good jock looks a big chance....Socialist who finally won for me last start comes back to town ,,i just laughed watching the replay of his win last start..this horse has run into traffic in every start prior so little Banksy had the horse wide the whole way with no traffic in font of her and he won easily...,,,i wish stewart on High Academy had done the same when the horse was in suitable events...anyway Anca looks good with a great place chance to Socialist..,Fabiarna impressive last start keep safe,,gets the sit off Anca...these the 3 with Mosso flying late..
Best Bets...Becks .starlactic, Allow, Anca
Best e/ws.... Devastating. Plachutta, Consular,
Not an easy day...had the winners last week but not the betting strategy that counts,,,hopefully i'll jag some of the likely huge pools in the mulits,,,
Good Luck All

Hey Mav,
Good days racing tomorrow, although the support card isn't nearly as good as it was last week. Very open races though, should see a price on most horses.
Race 1 - Getting sick of Devastating. To be honest, i thought he was injured after his last run and was out for a while....must've dreamt that. Hes got so much talent but obviously has his fair share (and more) of injuries. But, because, as Mav said, this is a pathetic race, i'll stick with him. Not confident, but if all else fails, go with the toppy. Sir Coup has run some good races here and there and might not be far away tomorrow from the good gate. Williams can ride too :). Pentathon finished well last time in better company, so might be able to run well tomorrow with a bit of speed on. Long straight will help, though i would've preferred a bit more distance. I would've included Very Canny but for the jockey. Hes a promising sort of galloper though.
Race 2 - Well, Mesmerising is testing the friendship but this isn't strong so i think she can win it. She'll get back but i can see a fair bit of speed so i think she'll hook out at the 300m and finish over them. Wish the $11 in the paper was around what i'll get tomorrow...but i doubt it :D. Appertain is fitter for 2 runs back and can go well tomorrow. He will appreciate the distance as it'll mean they won't go as fast out in front....letting him settle a litte. Good eachway show for mine. Partridge is always there it seems....never beaten very far but doesn't win out of turn. She won't be far off again and will be on pace all the way.
Race 3 - I've settled on Mystikos here, but she is unders. After having 1 from 11 with 6 seconds, you'd think i'd realise that shes a non-winner...but some of the figures she has run have been enough to see her competitive here...so i'll bite. Beadman to ride is a plus, just hope we get better than the $5.50 in the paper. Solid As a Rock is a pretty tough bloke to catch at times but has ability and can finish hard if they pour the pressure on (which i think they will). The 2 alley is great too, Cahill will put him in a perfect spot. General Patton might struggle a touch fresh, but he has got talent and won't be far off if he's not deep again. I'd say he'll improve with 1 or 2 under his belt.
Race 4 - Well this is a raffle. You'd think Angel Girl was close to a win in this sort of race, but i know the stable have an opinion of Charmana Star. I've ended up going with Charmana Star...just think she has loads of potential...the win first up last prep was great. She obviously wasn't ready for the millions, but after the break and given time to mature, i think she'll be a great chance tomorrow. Angel Girl was a top run last time at Doomben in that slow race...can go better here with some speed on. Its a weaker field on paper too. Very interested in this first starter Perrini. Dominated in a trial recently and is from a top stable. Very close watch on her.
Race 5 - Well, i've been on the Starlactic bandwagon for ages, and i'm not jumping off now. You'd think hes just got to win this. Similar, if not easier, field. Similar alley. Same jockey. Lots of speed. I think he sits off them and sprints at the 300m and wins running away again. Nothing is ever that easy, but its nice to be confident beforehand, right? Miss Mooney Mooney is a good quality mare and can run a placing here with a good run and with the speed on. Agree with you on So Chic Mav, the times have been super fast around the Coast. Just doubt her in the high pressure race here, but she deserves her chance. Good race, can't wait to see Starlactic again.
Race 6 - Who'd know. What a raffle. I think Belmonte and Ice Chariot are risks at the distance, but they could get it on 'class' alone. Think Allow is a lay, the time the other day was woeful. I've settled on one at E/W odds, Vision and Power. Got to the line the other day like one who'll apreciate the distance. EF shouldnt be a concern...so at the odds, he'll do me. Belmonte has done nothing wrong at all and if he doesn't do anything wrong during the run, he'll take some holding out. Same goes for Ice Chariot. This bloke has kept stepping up to the mark, so theres no reason why he can't do it again. Just hope theres some speed on so we can see what these guys can do. One that got to the line OK last time at Doomben was Teppanyaki...don't know anything about him, but might be worth a watch over this distance.
Race 7 - Daunting Lad draws the alley, Daunting Lad wins. Well hopefully. I really like him tomorrow. He'll put himself in the box seat, or close enough to it, and get the perfect run behind what seems to be a slower-than-usual speed. If you forget the last run where he was wide the trip on a hot speed, his form reads great for this race. Theres been a good go for him on fixed odds around the place too, apprently (26's into 11's with some). Hard to Catch is in a similar spot to Hard to Catch. Is improving and has been running some sensational figures. If he can cope with the step up to the high pressure race here, and produce some of the runs hes been putting in lately, hes a massive show. Miss Potential is a nice eachway show here, she can get right on the pace and stick on well. She has some great form down south the in last year or so. Repeat that, and you go mighty close here. I think theres a few nice lays in this race, so we'll see how it goes :).
Race 8 - Tough one to finish on. Anca should win though. Given the last run, the predicted improvement after the 1st Australian run and the 1 alley...i think she can win it. Socialist is back on the big track at EF and afte rthe good win last time, can run well again. Accardo is coming over with a few wraps and should be ready for this assignment. Isn't without a chance. What is the world coming to, i've picked 2 kiwis out of 3 selections. *Sigh* :D.
Well, good days racin with my best being Mesmerising, Starlactic and Daunting Lad with eachway chances to Devastating and Teppanyaki.
Good luck all,
Sven

G' Day guys,
Definately need an improvement on last week, Thank God for Vlad Duric &
Brady Cross at Adelaide last week .
Br1, I like Pentathon , again this is another hard days racing but this is my
Best bet Today. Remember he really didnt spend a penny last start & got the
Way of going, so he's got plenty left for this one. (handles wet too)
Br2, King of soul should be a class above these, Purton to steer it home.
**Belmonte, Cant understand most connections with young horses,
They show a little ability then flog 'em. It may very well win but after
that last performance... . This may be one race too many.
Look out for Cape Breton , 30's in paper... i think not.
*** What odd's Oliver rides a couple of winners in Melb.
Here's to some better luck today.

Oh well been up watching the 1st game of the world cup getting rady to watch the 2nd better still don't have to work at all tomorrow.
Race 1: Really bad race to start the day off I think Pentathon is going to be very hard to beat if he lines up I wouldn't say that is a certainty especially if it rains, The horse I am looking at having a bit on is Bugatti Royale not a bad horse getting out to a distance which will suit it alot more than the mile races it has had no luck whatsoever in, I know the last run reads badly but this horse isnot a miler it may need another run but I think it is ready to show it's best. Of the rest from the draw Taikorea looks a chance great gate great jockey and I would imagine the horse will only be improved by it's 1st run over here.
Race 2: I like Listen Pal here thought his 1st run back was pretty good with the weight and drops nicely coming to this race and with the prospect of a bit of rain his chances are really enhanced, after that I didn't mind Partridge and Darkside Lass a bit but Listen Pal is a pretty decent horse when right certainly good enough to take care of this lot.
Race 3: Not really interested in this one think it is a terrible race but for the sake of it I doin't mind Buzz a bit should be decent odds and his form doesn't look to bad Generals Command looks the hardest to beat for mine.
Race 4: I am getting the dartboard out for this one it is probably going to be just as successful. I don't mind the look of Charmana Star think it isn't a bad horse just a matter of whether it is ready to produce tomorrow, After that I don't know Sweet As is a chance maybe at decent odds didn't mind Luna Pride a bit, Unswerving looked hard to beat but the barrier doesn't do it any favors and I thought the 1st emergencie might run a bit of a race at odds Maserardi.
Race 5: Well I can't back anything at the odds that Starlactic is going to be very good horse certainly good enough to take care of these however was talking to my old man yesterday and he was touting Miss Mooney Mooney as a sure thing and he doesn't say that sort of thing very often he has convinced me enough to have something on it anyway.
Race 6: Well I think I may have severed my ties with Master Denis after last start that was pathetic to say the least didn't fight on at all I may have a couple of dollars on him e/w just to save face a little in case I was right but when I say a couple of dollars that is about all it will be to. Just Grand is the one I like a bit here though nice run last start and think he will outstay most of them got the nice draw with a good jockey on top, Kincharm is a definite chance on his last run Vision and Power wasn't bad either keep an eye on Big Eagle nice win last start and if the rain comes it could be a real chance.
Sven on Teppanyaki if the track is bone dry it is a chance at good odds but if any rain comes I don't think the horse hadles it at all.
Race 7: This is a tough race to sort out I am on La Sizeranne already and will not be having anymore on don't care what odds it comes up at tomorrow, Star Shiraz is one that I am interested in saving on I cannot believe anyone is knocking this horses last run thought it was very good from where she was on the home turn this time has the good draw and I can't believe that Byrne is going to ride 51kgs that is about as good a lead as there is. Miss Potential is a massive chance with the lack of speed but I do think there might be a couple that go forward because of what looks to be very slow pace otherwise Outback Prince is one I think will go forward. After those St. Basil would be hard to leave out of multiples, Messiaen is way overs and Cog Hill will be extremely tough to hold out I also thought that Magic Marvo could run a race at massive odds his last 2 runs have been very good and gets in here with nothing on his back.
Race 8: I like Amarazetti a bit here last couple of runs read alright if it can settle a little closer might be a good way for young Matt Palmer to finish the day off and why not for that stable at the moment.
Flemington
Race 2: Thought Jennings would be very hard to hold out here
Race 5: Bennetts Green looks tough to beat with Sensational Swing a good roughie
Race 6: Red October don't mind this might be nice odds to
Randwick
Race 4: Hit the Road always liked him wet track worries me
Race 7: Innings won easily last start reckon he will do the same again
Race 8: Agua Corriendo back it whenever it races in town always good odds e/w all day

10th June 2006, 09:19 AM
I won't go through all the races but just mention a couple of angles.
Stadbroke:
Forget St Basil from barrier 1. Had the outside easy to hand last year [last time he won a race] and as a backmarker made good use of it. This year even the trainer KNOWS from barrier 1 St Basil is going to have a wall of horses in front of him and he will be stuck on the inside of them near the rear and lets face it, the horse is almost 9yrs. old. and would be re-writing the history books to win this. I've got more chance of winning 1st. devision tatslotto Sat. night. 10/1 is freely available already for this false fav.
Red Oog and Shania Dane* finally get the barriers to suit and with a bit of Beadman magic I'll be on Sharia Dane because at the distance Red Oog is a failure 5 times and horses are creatures of habit. La Sizaranne from 13 will need luck, but it might come from Williams.
All said though, we are looking at rain effecting the show and by race 7 for sure, anything could happen. Media [huge weight drop], La Montagna, Miss Potential and Daunting lad are all good prospects. Black Ink will come last [bar-plates] and Cog Hill with blinkers if he doesn't over-race might get a run to have a crack at them. Don't dismiss Consular for a place a big odds and a bit of luck from the draw and Yell is always good for a place chance [hasn't won one for more than a year and a half]. I think I've covered the tri. but probably haven't :-)
R2. Bitabiff* ran too far last start at 1350m won by Masai pride. The 1200m here will suit and can handle all condt. The odds and distance make this horse an attractive bet.
R5
With brilliant young Rick Mc Machan on board Starlactic* [can handle any going] and plenty of speed on from 3 leaders, it will probably be all over red rover and is my bet even at short odds. A little Naughty [can handle the wet fine] will be value. 3rd run in. Drew wide first up and second up just missed out to Becks. A lot fitter this time but I think the fav. will win this. Pick the place getters for the tri. or go short on an exacta.
R6
When Ice Chariot* ran 2nd before his last start win, only Belmonte beat him. Don't underestimate Ice Chariots ability at this distance. The big step up last week put many punters off [not me]. I read that Ice Chariot's deceased sire Semipalatinsk sired steeplechasers like Tennesee Blue that could win at 4800 meters and Perth Cup [3200m] winner Palatious. From winning double jackpots in outside alleys [last start too] we will again see Lynch putting this backmarker to sleep until the home turn and running over the top of them from the outside of the straight. If the track gets to dead or slow I'll be having a look at a couple of the NZ horses in this for multiples, especially Sculptor.
Have great day.

10th June 2006, 10:08 AM
Shania Dane $3.54
Red Oog $4.37
Daunting Lad $5.13
Star Shiraz $9.07
Black Ink $15.38
Cog Hill $16.84
good value around my top 3, so that's how i'll play it.
as for the Derby, don't like it at all, Allow won the worst looking Oaks in years & her Syd form wasn't impressive, Belmonte doesn't look a stayer, Kincharm 1 from 19?? please. For interests sake only, I'll take some roughies like Big Eagle, Scattergun & Lonehead.

What about the weather, guys? I heard some talk about possible rain, but you haven't mentioned it???
Its pretty overcast here Sportz, not much activity on the radar but i'd be surprised if we didn't get something during the day. They say showers developing into rain, which looks about right...

Experimenting with a new rating method at the moment, so I thought I'd post them here and see how they go. I must say that I don't necessarily agree with what the ratings came up with in every race, but I'll post them all the same. I'm not sure how they'll go if the track gets severely rain affected today. As I said, they're purely experimental, so be wary.
Ratings are out of 100. I generally use a cutoff point of 40 points to find the major winning chances. As a guide, horses rated 80+ are strong winning chances, horses rated 60-79 are good winning chances, horses rated 40-59 are fair winning chances and horses rated less than 40 are only outside winning chances. But you can look for value in all the rated runners if you wish. I've been looking at multiples with the top 3 or 4 rated runners for 1st and the next 3 or 4 for the placings.

seem pretty good for mine sportz, interesting to see how they go
i have allow as my best bet of the day. killed them last start in a group 1 over this track and distance. Down 1 kg on that effort, same jock, similar barrier, $10 seems huge overs
Starlactic will win today but it won't be close to the $3.00 quoted prepost. try 5-4 exacta
i'm playing a race 4 trifecta 2,3,6,12. Astounded has been in great form, barrier only problem. charmana star was very good first up then only fair in the magic millions good value at 11s. unswerving showed a lot last prep but again barrier is of concern. perreni makes its debut today but had a great trial winning by 7.5 lengths
i'm trialling a new system today as well sportz, selections are

Sportz,
Regardless of how you think they went today (didn't seem too bad to me), you should persist for at least one more week. The results from today's meeting will be badly biassed by the track condition.
Mav,
Congrats on the La Montagna result too, good effort getting those early odds...well deserved.

Sportz,
Regardless of how you think they went today (didn't seem too bad to me), you should persist for at least one more week. The results from today's meeting will be badly biassed by the track condition.
Sven,
A few of the winners I certainly would have liked to be higher up in the ratings, but I had all 8 winners amongst the rated runners (most at overlay prices) so that wasn't too bad. And the $2000 first four on Starlactic's race and the $2200 trifecta on the derby suggests that it went okay too!!! ;)

What odds did you get on La Montagna, Mav? I had a little on at $17, but I suspect you did much better than that. $17 doesn't really seem all that great when she paid $12 today!!!

I won't go through all the races but just mention a couple of angles.
Have great day.
r5/5 Starlactic $1.90
r6/3 Ice chariot $6.50
Starlactic was short but nothing was going to beat him. Rapt at Ice chariot's performance at the distance. Repeated last week's tactics exactly for a thrilling win. We won't see those odds again and I've nailed him twice in a row. I had my biggest bet on him for a very good day indeed. Definitely one to watch for the Cox Plate and even the Melb. Cup.

My whole day could have been made better if Magic Marvo could have got up for 3rd backed it for a place and never even saw it in the screen until the last 100 metres thought it was a great run and I was surprised that he was paying what he was his form was actually quite good and didn't mind the wet not to mention he was drawn wide which was a massive bonus the inside was like quicksand.
