basically i've ripped this idea off someone else, hope it sparks some interest for the Brisbane Carnival!

This is a bookies comp!

Can you survive in the (betting) ring and be the last one standing?

Like No Limit Hold’em Poker, you will start off with a bank and will have to try and accumulate as much money as you can until only you remain as the eventual winner.

But the difference is that you decide what ‘cards’ you are dealt.

In this comp your ‘cards’ is the market you frame. You must frame a WIN ONLY market, and the market you frame must not be more than 100%.

Converting a horse’s odds into a percentage is simple. The formula is 100 divided by the horse’s odds. Eg. Even money = $2 = 100 divided by $2 = 50%.

Here is an example on how to frame a 100% market:

Yes you can frame a market less than 100%, but it would not be in your best interest to do so.

Please don't frame a market greater than 100%, I won't be checking so please be honest.

You can only frame ONE market. Once your market is posted changes to your market will not be accepted, even in the event of scratchings. The market you frame is then open to ALL other competitors to bet on. And you can bet on any other competitors markets as well.

It is compulsory for all competitors to frame a market, but it is not compulsory for all competitors to bet. The decision to bet is entirely up to you. You are only obligated to bet when the ‘BLIND BUTTON’ is on you. And yes, the blinds will progressively go up!! The BLIND BUTTON shall move from player to player ALPHABETICALLY.

Betting is simple. You can bet on anyone’s market, and you can bet on more than one horse. And of course, your return is the amount bet times the odds when your horse wins. REMEMBER it is ‘NO LIMIT’, so there is a minimum bet determined by the blind each week and a maximum ‘NO LIMIT’ bet determined by your bank.

In some instances, when a player’s payout on lost bets is more than their bank, the HOUSE shall payout the difference. The HOUSE has unlimited money.

Eg. Player A’s bank is: $1000.00 and attracts a $100 bet on a winning horse paying odds of $100, then the return is $10000.00. Player A has lost $1000.00 and is eliminated from the comp. The remaining $9000.00 is paid by the RESERVE BANK to the winning players bet.

Each week I shall nominate ONE race for everyone to frame their market. Therefore, I will only run this comp and will not be participating as there is a conflict of interests.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, PLEASE ONLY ENTER IF YOU INTEND TO PLAY THE WHOLE DURATION OF THIS COMP.

YOU WILL BE OMITTED FROM THE COMP IF YOU BREAK ANY OF THE RULES AND YOUR BANK SHALL BE EVENLY DIVIDED BETWEEN SURVIVING PLAYERS FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF PLAY.

COMP START DATE: SATURDAY 28TH APRIL 2007


Each Thursday afternoon, I will post the nominated race for the week, to post your framed WIN ONLY market and to register your bets.

You must frame your market by 12.00 on the SATURDAY of the week.

You are then open until racetime to place bets

Every player shall start with a $1000 bank.

Blinds will start at $100 and will increase by $10 every week. So after 5 weeks of play the blind is at $140.

Chuck, I'm sure there is a can of worms there, that a lot of people will not realise!! i.e. "why do systems not work"? Ans. = b'cos theres about 18% -22% built in against you??? if the market was to 100%, nearly all systems would work!!!?????

yes i HAVE thought about this, and you are right there are a few ways to frame your market etc. but i'm asking for people to take it seriously. yes obviously 100% market makes it easier for the punter, but since it is compulsory to make a market, it is not compulsory to bet. the rules are the same for everyone so it should be a good contest if we get enough people

whats the easiest way to configure a market i dont think ill be able to work out the odds and the percentages

mate,
the first thing i reckon to do, is order the horses from first to last in the order you think they will finish

if you can pick out say half the field you think "can't" win price them anywhere from $101 to $9999 and it will cost you vitually nothing, then start thinking how strong is your winning chance, put a price to it, then just go down, as stated earlier in the thread (i use google) just do 100/(the price) and add them all together,

whats the easiest way to configure a market i dont think ill be able to work out the odds and the percentages
Hi ijuandaQLd,

I am watching this competition with great interest, but I can't play because I wouldn't be able to get markets in by Friday 6pm.

I used to do this sort of thing, and to make it easier I knocked up the attached. There are probably more elegant devices all over the net to achieve the same thing, if you know where to look (which I don't).

Put your estimate of each starter's fair dividend in column C (my market for the Goodwood is in there at the moment-just overwrite it with yours). Bung in your desired total market percentage in the blue cell (F1), and it will recalculate your market to that percentage in column F.

I used to find it handy for scratchings - just delete the scratched runner's dividend from column C, and your market is recalculated without that runner.

Hope it's of some use.

I have been watching with interest... IMHO i don't think the bet siz is the problem for your comp, but more some of the odds offered.. In all honesty Magivor I have pretty much thrown in the towel today if Malcolm wins it would be a miracle I feel Takeover Target the horse to beat I feel he is the best sprinter in Australia when healthy and fit however I feel that Malcolm and Mitanni are the best of the rest Malcolm record at the trip speaks for itself and with Beadman on board I could think of alot worse jockeys to be carrying the money than the Hawkes Beadman combo.
