Been awhile since I have done anything like this but figured this was my fav carnival of the year might aswell get the ball rolling for some of the other guys if they want to have a go.

Race 1: Hard looking race to start the day alot of question marks with some good horses fresh and the fitter horses being possible question marks at the distance. Single Rose is a must have on previous form can't imagine it's odds will be very attractive if it is thought to be a chance of winning, I thought Suubird was a value chance in the race drawn barrier 3 with Pengelly on board if he can hold this horse up close enough till around 250m out with cover then it has a chance to take this race out at nice odds with a bit of race fitness on it's side. For 3rd I had maybe Sammy's Illusion but I really found this to be a tough position to sought out giving chances also to Prend and Atapi fresh might be worth a box trifecta early on. Bet here would probably be E/W Suubird unless conditions change drastically over night or odds don't reflect value.

Race 2: Beauty Watch will be backed as if it is unbeatable in this and maybe it could be as the WFA scale but I have had a big opinion of Rash Promise for awhile now and the last run IMO did nothing to change that with any luck I can easily see it taking this race out it just might not settle to far away from the leaders in this race from an ideal draw. For third I think Hello Possums and Skyleda are the chances it what looks to be a fairly average race depth wise, I know Headturner and De Beers are former quality animals but it has been along time since either has shown there best and until i see something they are gone for me. My bet here is Rash Promise for the win I think she is good enough hopefully I am proved right.

Race 3: Another very tough race here with some real quality horse flesh amoungst them, My Hangover is the one I have settled on here has some quality form in NZ and her 1st up run here was a cracker when she was off the track all the way only being a beaten less than a length, Fritz's Princess was probably the best of good things beaten in the Silk Stocking last start it will be interesting to see how she runs here she is good enough to win this no doubt luck in running could be the important thing, Reverenza was a bottler of a run last start also in the Silk Stocking gets another shocking barrier here but also has the master Darren Beadman on board to counteract that she certainly isn't beyond winning this really hit the line well late last start. outside of those I didn't mind Flame of Sydney, O'Tonda & Poiym maybe worth a trifecta see how things are going early on before comitting to that though. I think E/W My Hangover if the odds allow if not just back it for the win

Race 4: I don't have a great deal of interest here other than Pepperwood I really like this horse he grew wings late last start a repeat performance I think can get him close in this I like Scriven on board again aswell. Pepperwood is my bet here he will be E/W odds I would expect be disappointed if he isn't atleast running on into the placings.

Race 5: Time to get that dart board out here jesus this is a ************ hard race to sort out. This is the last day for me and My Lady's Chamber I just pray to god that Purton doesn't have a brain fart during the running today just give her every chance and I will be happy if she isn't good enough then so be it, Deloraine is an obvious include on a nice run last start as is Doug's Mate IMO very nice run behind a horse alot of people seem to think is capable of winning the Doomben if that is the case then this has to be a chance in this race, Lasoron is another that falls into this category aswell and also has Beadman on board which can't hurt either. E/W My Lady's Chamber crossing my fingers she gets a clear run at them.

Race 6: funnily enough yet another horrific race to try and work out however if the rain stays away and the track is a good track then Double Dare moves right to the top of my calculations some will argue that he will be better at Eagle Farm I disagree I think Doomben will suit him better he doesn't have a long sprint on him if he settles about midfield which he can do with the draw he has gotten then I am sure Oli can kick this bloke home, Dangers there are many of them The Jackal was devastating at the Gold Coast but I question whether he can return that same performance here tomorrow it sure was a gut buster last start and for that reason I am taking him on here. Enrique is a quality horse and can pull some big runs out at times as can Mr Hornblower, Legendary Man and Masai Pride are place chances atleast aswell in a ridiculosly hard race, I do like Hard To Catch but the weight doesn't suit him here. If the rain stays away then Double Dare is my pick if it comes then I might settle on Legendary Man E/W.

Race 7: I pretty much have no interest in this race but if there is a knock out chance I believe it comes from either Drac's Back, Fooram, Grand Zulu or Lachlan River. No Bet here unless I am flying

Race 8: Not really interested in betting in this either but I thought Danleigh was a good run at the Coast last start Bianca wouldn't shock me at all if it won I also gave a rough chance to Satsang aswell. No Bet again unless I am flying and even if I am it won't be much of a bet

Hi Raw ,,great Summary
i'll add mine to yours to keep it all together ...Good luck tomorrow ,

Race 1,
Seems hard to go past Single Rose,,this horse just flys 1stup and is technically unbeaten. This isnt a hard field shes against and from the good barrier should be to good.. Suubird did ok last start and a chance,,,Tropiqualo is handy...and what about our girl from last start Craiglee Emma ?? shes such an honest performer and i'd be on her e/w in this if coome was riding her,,i'm not a huge fan of taylor but she'll be flying late but maybe alittle to late..
Single Rose but i doubt a price..
Race 2,
Beauty Watch looks perfectly placed here,,i love the form around her and she rates extremly high,,,I have Headturner 2nd but still think he'll need another run...Rash promise a likely improver and i've heard of bets for this for the straddie ??
Beauty Watch one of the best of the day..
Race 3,
Fantastic betting race this..,,Hard not to back Fritz's Princess after her last run,,she just went around in another barrier trial as she couldnt get out at all,,,you'd think the track wouldnt suit her style but its an easier track tham GC to get around and theres some nice speed in this race..I'm confident with Fritzy ,,Coolroom Candidate is such a good horse and was fantastic last start with the grandstand ,,i just think Fritzy will be to strong when it counts...good exacta ?
Race 4,
Well i've said enough about Cent Per Cent before and i'm a huge fan..the rain around will be even better for him..Mufwe is a great looking horse and did well last start considering,,,how good was keiki last start but she did have all the favours..Diamond Deck bred well,,,royal asscher maybe to short ?? Pepperwood grew wings last start ?? this is a hard race and one of the best on the card....Cent Per Cent to bring it home..
Race 5,
Santagostino was fantastic last start,he even eased down ,,did have the good run though but he was strong....The Black Rod interestingly rates high..i like the form around this horse and the breeding..$14 on unitab is nice e/w odds..Deloraine and My Lady's Chamber were good last start but those blanket finishes are deceptive..
Santagostino worth backing and you could be The Black Rod aswell..
Race 6,
Anwaar looks well in this race,,,battled on ok last start and if theres alittle bit of rain then shes looks a special...
Masia Pride if hes going to make it then this is it ,,wont have a better chance than this ..actually jumped well last start which is a miracle,,Williams with his agressive backhand whip action might just be what this horse needs....
Friday Creek will be an improver here,,good form around him and he goes well 2nd up..Hard to Catch will apreciate this trip,,never got out last start but Stewarts aboard,,,
Anwar / Masia Pride and Friday Creek ??i have Anwaar on top so i'll be on ..if it drys up Friday creek and Masai Pride might be the way to go,,,will have to wait to see the track ..(tuff race)
ps,,I like the Jackal but if he pulls again i doubt he'll be as lucky as last start,,
Race 7,
Desert War looks to good,,,Olly will spark him up this time and he looks like he'll dictate ,,Grand Zulu on top of the ground the only longie i dont ..looks a no betting race
Race 8,
Gold edition just wins...another no betting race,,,,Goldy looked fantastic last start and will only get better,,

Best bets, Beauty watch, Fritzy , Cent Per Cent, Anwaar
Best e/ws, The Black Rod, Masai Pride,

Sydney
Milonga, Loanhead, Referees
Melbourne

Definitely a dart board day except for a couple of obvious shorties not worth backing.

Most of the chances for the day have been mentioned except for Tellum, whose run last start was very good indeed even though squeezed for room. Fit now and ready to rumble.

A couple of e/w's might be my go today: Very Grand in r5 and Friday Creek in r6 are a couple of up and comers racing through the grades. Might be worth a dabble while their still at decent odds.

After Desert War's gut-buster last start trying to make up for a bad start, I think Reigning to Win can shaft him. Won't be worth the odds though and a race worth staying out of except for multiples.

Forget the Jackal in r6. I picked and backed him last week to win but he's had his turn and hasn't the barrier for a backmarker this time. Probably won't have the turn-a-round puff either after last week's effort.

The backmarker Proudly Aggro has finally got the outside gate in r1 after a decent run behind ********** I.R.I.S.H Sky last outing. Was once a better horse, but down in class for this. Good odds for an e/w.

Cheers.

........... no Merlot Now Mav? :D
ok i'll throw another $20 on :) might need it again to drown my sorrows ..

Fritz's Princess does have bar plates on for all that are interested...general rule is to leave them alone and at those odds its maybe best to do so....
i'm to keen to leave her alone but i will be having something on Coolroom Candidate at the value..
like the 9's about Anwaar ...Fridays Creek heavily supported but should get the good run ....doing me my head in this race ....
good luck all :)

Boy, did Friday Creek's odds shorten!

Raw Instinct
19th May 2007, 03:22 PM
Well in the end I should have stopped early on I knew when everything was running into trouble I was going to have a bad one ended up being on Doble Dare and Mr Hornblower in the BTC Sprint and after My Ladys Chamber got run over the top of I thought I deserved to get one go my way well it wasn't to be throw that in with Rumbird at Scone yesterday and it has been a frustrating couple of days.

On Friday Creeks odds they were far to short for his form IMO half the reason I didn't want him O'Sheas horses always get belted in QLD.

Was going to back the e/w odds I thought would be there, but took him on the nose in the end [5.60w Vic tab]. Some very sore bookies from this one. One Sydney bet of $150k yesterday I heard [what started the rush].

Jack O'Shea's horses have some company, I got belted in Queensland today too, a string of exotics went down 2-3 instead of 1-2, or 1-3 or tri's wrong way about,I would tell you about my thoughts on it but it would end up a string of astericks lol, back to the drawing board.

Race 1
Single Rose just to good 1stup but to short for me....great run by Lombardy didnt get a crack at them in the straight,,and will be better over alittle longer..
Race 2
Beauty Watch gallant but i did think she'd hit the front earlier than she did..headturner very strong and can go on with it...beauty to short,,
Race 3.
backed Coolroom and Fritzy (why ??) and thought Coolroom very very unlucky,,watch the replay ..though Zac in tryiin to hold her up aslong as possible (distance ?) missed the boat.
good runs by Nova Star and Vill Bled,,.
Race 4.
Was on Cent Per Cent ..but he was striding out in the same spot,,,guess he was wondering why the ground was so hard,,..forget Royal Assher went around..Diamond Deck looks very promising..
Race 5.
The Black Rod was a huge run..very unlucky...back this horse next start,,
Rose of Sharon good run as was Eskimo Queen....i doubted Lasaron at the distance but she was strong..not a fan of the Oarsmans but this one can run..
Race 6.
Anwaar at the 9's and Friday Creek at the 6's,,,,finall atleast a win ,,he got the cover he needed and was impressive i thought,,he'll need to improve again for the straddie though..
Enrique was a good run,,,i'm a fan of Son of Dane but was worried about the jump in distance,,,great run.,,Anwaar just needs the sting out and did to much work..
Race 7,
great race to watch,,,Desert war a tired old horse,,hope Gai doesnt ruin this champion like she did Dance Hero.....
Race 8,
Wow is all i can say...shes a freak..how good was Grand reve again..poor thing,,,and Jdane wins a maiden the other day and did a huge job....Danleigh on a roomier track just wins next start,,
