Thought Protectionist would have been better suited in the Caulfield Cup
Has won over 3000m but I think most of his other wins have been over shorter journeys
Won't mind any rain on the day, if it's about

Red Cadeaux & Cavalryman both returning for another go at our Cup
Cavalryman unplaced 2012 but good recent form
Red Cadeaux runner-up twice
both 9yo's but probably worth an each-way punt at the odds

Admire Rakti now around 5/1
Thought he may have got more (penalty) but still, has to carry 58.5 kg

kiwiz
24th October 2014, 06:47 AM
Think Admire Rakti would have received more had the handicapper not already allotted 58kg
Was as impressive (if not more) as Caravan Rolls On
That horse received a 1.5kg penalty

Looked at fields for Tuesday minimum field size is 15.

Is this the hardest day of the year to make a profit??????

With the races, outside the Cup, the winners get up without names or any form at all.

Does anyone agree?

Just read an amusing article by Andrew Eddy, Racing Editor for The Age, Horse-by-horse guide to the Melbourne Cup field

For example, his comments re Who Shot Thebarman:

"A Kiwi galloper with a solid record of staying performances and a fine lineage to boot. Is a half-brother to the Derby winner Who Strangled The Gateman and his sisters Who Karate Chopped The Tea Lady and Who Elbowed The Tote Sheila were Oaks winners. Can prove himself the equal of his grandsire, Who Squirrel-Gripped The Bookie if he can win this race."

Rogan Josh
4th November 2014, 12:12 AM
And Gatewood:

"Now this must be one confused horse. He initially came out from England two years ago and won the Geelong Cup before being transferred to Chris Waller's Sydney stables, where he did not fire a shot in four subsequent runs. Emancipated back to England and suddenly regained his form and his reward for that was transportation back to the colonies."
