G'day everyone, wondering if anyone can give me a little insight into owning a greyhound and going and watching it race.. some things i'm curious to know is
- is it worth it
- what sort of money are we looking at in regards to purchasing the greyhound, getting it trained and kennel and whatnot(would not stay with me)
i'd basically just own it so i can enjoy seeing something i've to some degree made into what it is..
my old man said there's no money in dishlickers and i'm not all that fussed in that side of it, but if the costs outweigh any money then obviously i wouldn't bother, i chose a greyhound as they would obviously be cheaper to split up amongst 5-10 people then a racehorse would be.. would be interested to know the costs in racehorses as well though

Don't think there is no money in the dishlickers, a very good friend had a dog called undermine,He made enough money on the dog, Prize money but mainly punting money to put a hefty deposit on a house.
I'll check with him the costs involved in buying and maintaining a dog and post back.
The main problem as I can see, it's like owning a racehorse, you get a real good one once in a lifetime if you are lucky.

Thanks buddy, appreciate it, probably wouldn't be able to get a bunch of people together to own one anyway, but still extremely interested, it's more for the experience rather then the money.

http://www.grnsw.com.au

that site has a guide to about how much buying a greyhound and racing it should cost..
go to GETTING INVOLVED (on the left)
then... what does it cost to become involved,
(on the right hand side)

im in the same boat as you, except we got about 5 guys 2gether all very keen to buy a greyhound, and 1 of the guys is good friends with GEOFF COOK, (dancing habbit)
i wouldent say there is NO money in greyhound racing, not enough to live off but u never no, you may pick up a dog that does prove to be a little better than the rest, make a little money and have a great hobbie,

give the site a read and have a look at a few others........... good luck
