not surprised at the poor field.
sydney racing is on the skids.
last week heard ian craig saying that if it wasnt for the horses from taree they wouldnt be holding races.

still its not cluttering up sky channel anymore.

The funny part is, as sure as night follows day, the NSW horses will win more than their share at the Melbourne Spring Carnival again, as they have done for the past umpteen seasons.

Top level horses in NSW strong, depth non existant.

Top level horses in Vic, count on one hand. Depth of Saturday class horses strong.

i think the b ig stables have their top level horses roaming the nation taking on all the big races leaving the rest to plod around sydney during the week and on weekends.
i did a quick survey recently and found that most group ones and twos are won by sydney horses nationally.
but boy is midweek and saturday a let down in sydney.

Well my pick by a country mile would be spark of life. Cant imagine anyone tipping against that horse with its fresh record.Or has it only three legs????? Would still win i think anyway just my opinion.

Well said breadman, have to agree with you.read on Racenet that it won a trial the other day by 8 lengths or so hard held. You would expect it to run this lot ragged with sheer speed.

Heard that Elton John will be running against on age..
Will be no value in this race..Great to watch though very interested in how In the Night has come back..Impaler also

Spark of Life is a very exiciting horse who should win. But may be a bit short.

I reckon a fair price for spark of life would be around the $1.30 mark. Anyone got an opinion on that. Defiantly to short for my liking i remember seeing kingston town beaten at 1/5 in a 6 horse field at randwick one year.

the event is a non-event.
a hot shot horse in a small field of duffers.

must be more interesting races than this to look at on saturday.

Bit harsh Topsy calling horses like Into The night and Impaler Duffers..
I think Impaler will get a nice run behind Spark of life and might just run it down ..

your're probably right.
i used to look forward to the season openers particularly the first 3 or four saturdays in august as they usually brought up the past seasons graduating horses but they seem thin on the ground.
sydney has lost its magic over recent years and i dont know what will rescue it.
one or two good horses are not enought.
the lonhro's and defiers are one thing but the other good horses seem to lack longevity.
grand armee is an exception but generally most of the fade so quickly that the racing loses its appeal.
but i know i shouldnt knock but sydney should be able to do much better.
bigger fields, good horses performing longer/multiple seasons would help.

i heard the results of the report about Nsw racing and it sounds great..The horsley park venture..the 200 paid to every horse that races...better prize money..the bobs if you use it back in the breeding industry you get back 25,000 instead of 16,000..good to see that they are doing something..Qld racing will hopefully follow..
but back to the race..its still gong to be a fantastic race with riding tactics the key..

remember horses like Alinghi, dance hero , maykebe Diva ,Special harmony ect..are coming back soon..
