hello all,
for some strange reason im curious as to the male to female ratio of contributors in this forum? are there as many girls that like to punt?
also im interested to find out the different eras that people on this forum are from, as i have seen it recently there are a couple of retired gentlemen.
i myself am 21, male and got hooked on the racing game by my late grandfater who used to place a 5 dollar bet on most races on saturday when i was around 10 or so.
just interested in the way other people got started and whether there are any people in my demographic.
feel free to post anything here, if not, then happy punting:)
cheers

Hiya Schmucta
I'm one of those retired gentlemen you mentioned. Being retired though doesn't make me elderly. I still play football in fact! Funny how people assume old age when the word retired is mentioned. For the record I'm about twice your age.
Further, I grew up in and went to school in Flemington with a number of members of racing families where my interest in racing developed. I have also owned a few horses over the years.
Most of my working life was spent in the area of research, statistical analysis and inference development.
I am now living in sunny Brisbane. (26 today guys!)

Hi Schmucta,
Grew up with my father having race horses and alway disappearing to Bris, Syd or Mel to watch them run. Followed the gee gee's while I was at school but never had a bet. Lost interest due to lack of time for a long time and only in the last few years have got the bug again. Am 40 and male.
Cheers, Golly

Hi Schmucta,
Male, 32, living in Canberra (although only moved here recently - previously I have lived in Sydney and Melbourne and also for short work assignments in Brisbane and Darwin).
Got interested in betting after working for one of the TABs on their betting and reporting systems (I am a computer programmer by trade).

I'm new in Oz, living in Perth, and got hooked while still in South Africa by a friend who retired early with his divs!
At 46, male, I cannot retire just yet- but give me another year or two!

37 year old grey entire ( well more balding than grey ) by SP out of Housewife.
Couldn't hack working for other people a couple of years back so decided to become self employed. Then realised I didn't know much about anything except the punt so that's what I do.
Not a huge bettor but earn enough to put kids through school, feed them and go on the occasional holiday ( oh, and pay the trouble and strife's credit card ).
Anyone else out there not got a real job like me?

38year old male who had his first bet on Roy Higgins and Hyperno...seemed easy money!
Then proceeded to back some Sydney horses which won week in week out. Then reality hit and I went to the formguides.
FUNNY STORY...Did you know that when I first looked at a formguide, I thought that the form (3S4121) was the registration number of the horse?
Well since then have tried every system, method, scheme and ripoff ever offered to punters and lost money. So I started devising my own systems. To my amazement - they actually worked..some better than others. After years of research and refinement and odds calculation I got it!
I also used to own a horse called Chrome Prince (Sire Coal King) which was very good at the picnics.
Now I am self employed on the punt but it isn't the life most people think, you have to be disciplined, financial, alert, and have balls of steel to weather the bad times.
The good times are GREAT though.
Hi
I'm 50 yrs of age and grew up around horse racing. My Father's sister married a Jockey who was famous in the 50's name was Neville Sellwood. I took his photo on my brownie box camera at Sydney Airport the day he left for Paris where he was killed when his horse fell. Anyone remember Neville of George Moore?

about me,
im 21 years old, live in south australia, run a supermarket owned by my parents and its only small so it gives me ample time to study the form. i am a systems lover and in the future i want to develop a several systems for greyhounds, harness and also horses so that i can have three banks on the go, a beach house, 3 cars.........lol, but it would be nice
im half way there i have a dog system that is ok and i started a harness system that is building a bank from nothing, now all i need is a fool proof horse system:)
well good luck on the punt everyone

G'day
29, Male, South Yarra.
Got into punting via my old man who took me to the May races at Warrnambool every year. I remember he asked me to pick a winner in one of the steeple races and I picked a horse that was about 8-1. It was absolutlely belting down and my horse wasn't looking to flash, then with about 5 jumps to go all horses ahead of mine fell and he cruised home. Have been hooked ever since.
Now that the old man has started joining some syndicates. I love it even more as it's great having a horse you want to win for the thrill sometimes rather than for the wallet.
One of his is horses is Badger's Wood which is a great chance tomorrow 25/5 at Flemington. Due for a win, good form through the Adelaide Cup winner The A Train and loves the wet.
Happy punting
