G'Day All
I'm sure we have all heard the story about the "punter" who walks of the street in to the TAB (Usually Melbourne Cup Day..... or another BIG race day).... puts on a $3 mystery (trifecta) bet and walks out $1K richer......
I for one have NEVER been so lucky..... best I've done was a $65 win on Uppercumbucter West (Cannington - I think) greyhounds.... :(
And I've never actually seen the proof (i.e. been in the TAB when it come home and the punter shows it around to his mates..... or had the brother-in-law tap me on the shoulder and slyly slide me the "winning" ticket).....
So, anyone out there been lucky (or know of someone on the end of a winning mystery ticket)???
Just thought it might be a bit of interest. (Not confined to $3 mystery tri's.... could be the Mystery 6 / Quinella / $1 Straight out tri / 3 Up etc....)

I've never taken one. It's like admitting defeat (I can't pick 'em myself, so I'll let the TAB do it for me).
The only time I would even consider it is on the Melbourne Cup, because that's really the only race of the year that I think it's okay to have "fun" bets.

Hi guys,
I'm new here, and thought i'd introduce myself while answering to this post.
I'm Capps 24 f living in Brisbane and a total novice when it comes to betting as I don't really have a system or know a great deal, I just enjoy placing a few bets and hoping I get up.
I do however take a mystery bet now and then if I don't feel like looking at the race and I've won 2 times... one time I got about $800 and the other was $650.
It was just pure luck and fun but I wouldn't rely on them to make any money all the time.
I don't know how much posting i'll do becoz I can't really give my opinion until I learn a bit more :) hopefully I won't get any crap for not knowing a whole lot.

Don't think you'll get any crap from anyone.
Racing is a great leveller. People who think they know a lot about it, are usually cut down to size. No better example than the Melbourne Cup where you can do hours of study and see your horse run last while the person next to you gets the winner purely because they like the name or the colours or they think the jockey's "cute".

well thank u...
I admit when I was little I used to pick by the name with my dad, and our next door neighbour used to get me to pick his horses out coz I was lucky and made him some big bucks.
But now I do look beyond the name and colours... and i manage to brake even most of the time. Maybe coz I play it safe :)

It happen to me once before.
It's a big race which my flat mate and myself doesn't know who to pick. What we did was pick out of the hat for lucky numbers. For 3 times, we pick No 5 as the winner. My house mate place 350 on win and 150 on place. As I always play it save, I only place 5E/W. Guess what, no 5 actually won at 33/1 odds. I was the one that placed the bet for him at the nearest TAB and he was at home toileting. I can't believe myself holding on the 12K+ ticket and I only won 200+. Later the week, the winner's urine test tested positive for drug and he got eliminated from the winning. Guess who that was?

Well racing is always luck. Therefore, each year's big races, I will pick it out of the hat. Got Diva for the cup last in year 2003. Hope the same for this year's CC, Cox and MC....
Good luck to all punters...
I just picked no 6 for 2005 Caulfield Cup!!! Go Diamond at 31/1...Ha! Ha!
