running a tab is a business, but would i put the price of a hot *** up 100% or more because you walked in and told me you are hungry? no.
well this is what australian tab punters are having to put up with (again).
nsw tab other
takeover target 3/1 11/2
glamour puss 9/1 18/1
falkirk 8/1 20/1

is there little wonder that 1 in 4 punters have opened accounts other than tab accounts, the tabs can little afford to continue to offer these pre historic percentages to punters.australian punters will soon give up on tabs prices does this leave our industry in trouble?aah huuh yes it does and the tab do not give a flying falcon it appears that the tab are looking at promoting sports betting and dont really care what happens to the racing industry and its participants.

i disagree, if a horse is backed then its going to go down in price. of course we here in australia are going to back the horses from our country. if they are backed beyond belief how can a company justify keeping it at odds just because the "other" bookies are offering them. a prime example was when star shiraz ran second to regal cheer a couple of months back. in every state other than qld the horse paid something like $10 for the place but in qld only paid $5. can you post up the entire field to compare rather than just the australian horses. i would be surprised if they were shorter or even the same. but ill admit defeat if i am wrong :)

Yeah, of course the Australian horses are going to be shorter on the TAB. It's only natural. There are going to be more Australians wanting to bet on those horses.

But as a result, you get better value about the English horses on the TAB. Here is a comparison between Centrebet and TAB Sportsbet. You'll notice that Centrebet has the Australian horses longer, but TAB Sportsbet has most of the English horses longer.

Horse Whisperer, what you state would be true if the TAB were offering a tote pool, because then the price on offer would reflect the amount of inivestment on each of the runners. But in tonight's race in the UK, that's not the case.

As there are 30 runners then the tote can not handle that type of situation (their outdated equipment can only handle max fields of 24), they are offering a fixed price service, ie. they are acting as a bookmaker & not a tote operator. Therefore they should be capable of 'acting as a bookmaker' that is betting back using alternative bookies, such as those in the UK, to round off their book..

Unfortunately, they are clearly not doing this as they are betting to an over-round well in excess of 150%, while Betfair's market is currently at about a 104% over-round.

Anyone with either a UK bookie's account or a Betfair account would be foolish to bet with SportsTab on any of the Australian runners.

Pommy punters would kill to get some of the odds available here for their horses.

La Cucaracha, Moss Vale and Tax Free are all top chances and are overs on our tab, especially La Cucaracha which will probably be close to favourite by start time.

By the way, I had a look at the Racing Post website to see the opinion of the English tipsters. Geez, they have a stack of tipsters over there!!! They had a table containing the "nap bets" (best bets) of 52 newspaper tipsters from all over the country for tonight's racing. Guess what. 11 out of the 52 tipsters chose a runner from the Kings Stand Stakes as their best bet of the day. But between them, they chose 8 different horses!

So apparently, there are 8 good things in tonight's race, and Takeover Target isn't one of them. ;)

I understand what you guys are saying, but like it was said in the first post it is a business, and they arnt going to give their money away. If they get $200 000 on a horse, in fixed odds compared to say $100 they are going to drop the price, if they didnt they would be stupid.

Also i wasnt aware you were comparing a the TAB fixed odds to centre bet or something similar. There would also be a good reason for them having better odds about the Australian horses. The only people that have the accounts with the other bookmakers are obviously serious punters (well more than a weekend punter) and are therefore more switched on with horses around the world. So you will get alot of ppl simply backing the Australian horses with the TAB on what they have seen here in Australia and thinking nothing can beat them, whereas the "more informed" punter will know the quality of the horses they are against and you will get more money being bet on the non-Australian horses in the race, and therefore the companies can afford to offer a better price on the Australian horses.

I hope that makes sense to anyone reading it, it did for me anyway :P

Why? If they were smart they should push the price out further, say from the current $4 on offer to $4.50 or $5, then bet back on Betfair. Currently as I type this there is over $8,000 on offer on Betfair @ prices ranging from $5.80 to $6.20, and when that is taken the well will be filled up again with additional money, which means all they have to do is keep laying it to Aussie punters @ $4 to $5 & betting it back with Betfair @ the higher prices on offer. They simply guarantee themselves a profit doing this if Takeover Target wins - they CAN NOT LOSE.

I have also been informed from a 'good' source that SportsTab are in fact betting back with a number of corporate bookies in the UK, if or not Betfair is one of them I do not know, but if they were smart then they would be taking some of the Betfair action as well.

Betfair have currently matched about $430,000 on the race, but by race time that will be in the millions.

Sensational run from all 3 'Aussie' horses.

Takeover Target is a freak. Its great to see horses like him succeed in Australia, let alone win overseas. Not to mention how good it is to beat the poms at something else :)

Couldn't resist a nibble at TT at $8.6 on Beftfair.

Apparently, he's now into about 3/1 to win next week.

I ended up backing all the Aussies and it was great to see Takeover Target win however I did feel that Falkirk was pretty unlucky he had the 2 horses fall around him and run up the ass of something else when coming through at about the 150m mark with a straight run at them he would have gone extremely close i feel.
