Hi all
Have noticed of late that some punters refer to there punting activities as trading on the horses rather than betting. Is there a difference?
Someone said to me the other day "i have been trading on the horses" rather than betting on the horses?
Cheers

I think betting = just backing horses, whereas trading includes laying them.

look at it this way if some one asked you what you do for a living and you said trading you would be more respected than if you said betting.
Why do you think they trade in stocks and not bet on them.

I tell everyone here [small town] I'm a 'futures market trader' [the future chance of my selections winning] :-))

No problem its usually the software sellers that use this term so i thought perhaps its just become the accepted terminology rather than betting.

When I put my Saturday lotto on I tell the wife I am adding to my "investment portfolio."
That usually results in a withering look.
Cheers.
