Always hard this time this time of year in Brissie...i do like a couple though..
Hoping for a good day after a losing last Saturday and an ordinary week..

Race 1.
An open race to start off with. My top four are Nediym's Image, Fort Custom, Circus Maximus and A sirla ...but theres a few others that rate high aswell...to hard this race...
I have Refs Call and Circus Maximus going forward from the awkward barriers..and that will be an advantage here as they are an even bunch so the best run wins....Intersting breeding this Fort Custom..
Nediyms Spirit looks to get the good run from the inside...solid run last start and is in nicely with the claim..Looks the safest bet here if you have to have a go....Circus Maximus is in form and drops weight great e/w chance...
Nediyms Spirit / Circus Maximus ...Field

Race 2.
A real non race really...but how many times have you seen the short priced runner lose in small fields.....Bikie will win i cant see anything beating him...no way i'll be on...
Only way to utilise the 1.20 is to all up into another horse later in the meet..atleast its something..

Race 3.
Skyleda won well last start and although King Latarmiss finally gets some weight relief i still think SkyLeda wins even though he'll be a mile back on the turn...hes better across the road and because of this i might get a price...
King Latarmiss from the good barrier and racing well so hes in this up to his ears.....not convinced about Eskimo Dan yet but he won well last start and is an improver...
Sky Leda/ King Latarmiss ....field

Race 4.
Stepping the top rater,,,but at the shorts from the ugly barrier she'd want to be good...Amber Lodge on best form wins and wins easily,,she did show last start at the coast with the weight that she still has something to offer and will be up on the speed......Nothing else in this race except maybe Miss Information and Shes Rocking could challenge the top 2...
Stepping/Amber Lodge...Miss Information/Shes Rocking

Race 5.
Trivo was impressive at the Sunny Coast and will have admirers..im willing to take him on as he does alot wrong and is a bit green...he overcome this last start but here against these he'll have to be switched on...
Melifluorus competitive against some good youngsters around the place ,,,he also has the blinkers on which i dont mind for the youngsters...should get a price to :) ....Plachutta is hard to catch and seems to just like the coast,,still capable of competing here as the best rider of the the inexperienced horses in the country Colless makes a huge difference,,,
Melifluors , Plachutta/ Trivo ..field

Race 6.
Fleeting Echo will start short,,nicely weighted good barrier and running time......If So chic who ran well last start is it nice e/w odds maybe ..but you'd want a price from that barrier around here...,,looks a look on race ..
Nasarlo has speed and from the inside will give some cheek and might pester Fleeting Echo who a couple of starts ago did get worried out of it.....if he is vulnerable to pressure ..So Chic and Dangerous Host the ones...
good luck

Race 7.
I've taken on Rasmussen twice now and hes got me both times.....well i'm taking him on again here...i'm punting on the fact the extra distance will suit Imperilism more than it will him...Imperilism will again get the good run but got run off his feet when they sprinterd...looked like he really needed the run...I like him here and he likes the track which helps...
Rasmussen actually has a horse in this race that has good speed to keep up with him in Noble Gaze ...hopeully these two go nuts up front...
Imperilism ....Rassmussen/Noble Gaze/Ceffyl

Race 8.
I'm a big fan of Son Of Dane but i heard hes scratched tomorrow...I cant go past Rock Of Mufasa. ,,he went past them last start in cruise mode..I'm a fan of Sweet Ransom and and Socialist but both are more suited across the road....Spur ME on gives them the speed the need and Persuades will be up there giving cheek aswell.....
I cant get over the way Rock of Mufasa went past them last start...this i know is harder but i reckon Cahill had a couple of lengths in reserve....Sweet Ransom the big danger....
Rock Of Mufasa / Sweet Ransom....Persuades/Socialist

Best Bets ... Skyleda /Stepping/ Imperilism/ Rock Of Mufasa
Best e/ws ... Meliflourus

Sydney
Gypsy's Honour, Malcom, Racing to Win, Gallant tess, Backdraft
Melbourne
Merlot Now , Perfectly Ready, Speedy King, Fullazzz
Adelaide
Storm Fury, El Maze, Shablec
Toowoomba
Lady Of Courage
Gold Coast
Mafia Hunter, Antron

One of My favs Merlot Now is running tomorrow...might be to wet for him though...races well 1stup...

Good Luck all :)

I would like to see them ride Rassmussen off the speed and see what happens, i think now like you say there is another horse in the race with good speed it is probably the time to do it. Especially just before they send the horse south. By the way it finishs off the races so far there is no reason it cant come from mid field and go straight past them. Will be interesting to see what they do.

Good to see you up early and on the ball whisperer. Nice run-down mav.

r7 should see Noble Gaze winning this easily. I've just been looking at adjusted times and the Gaze is a good second faster than anything in this. Has the runs on the board for the distance and track too. Western Brace will run a race this time and is one for the multiples. Got lost wide last outing.

I hope the Echo is run over today by the backmarker Dangerous Host. Has got the alley this time and the Seamer is out to make amends. Meets the Echo 2kg. better off as a small bonus and will have the good odds.

BTB is due for a loss and I hope it is Nevada Gambler who can empty the biscuit tin.

Odds longshot in the Melb. wet is r7/9 Royal Lakes e/w. Barrier is a slight concern but has a good jock for this.

Have good day everyone.

Hey all,

Interesting day today at Doomben. Obviously not the quality that we see down south, but there are some nice ones going around. Good weather up here should see a nice racing surface too.

Race 1 - Well, if this was at EF King of Trumps would be a special, after the way he finished off last time. His early speed and 'attitude' is a problem though, as was many lengths last and under lots of pressure before the turn. Having said that, i'll stick here because of the extra distance, the fact that Byrne has jumped on and that these are no world beaters. A Sir La is a decent enough horse who ran a pretty good race last time when on pace. If she can repeat that sort of run, she is a place chance. Nediym's Image isn't one i can ever get into, but i spose is a chance in this sort of race with the claim.

Race 2 - Bikkie Tin Blues will win, but you'd be mad to back him straight out. In fact, you'd be mad to back him at all. Cold Start will go nuts out in front and get a stitch at the 400m when Bikkie is circling. He'll go straight past them and the rest are fighting it out for the others placings.

Race 3 - Tough race. Ill go for Skyleda because of the way he won last time - he just went straight past them. If Byrne can get him to the outside again, i think he'll be too strong. Teletrader was a nice win last time at EF, though the time was slower than Skyleda's (and Byrne rode them both, chose Skyleda?). Having said that, he has always shown ability and from where he has been racing, the stable seem to have an opinion of him. Good chance. Eskimo Dan is the up-and-comer but the class rise is significant. I'd rather see him run a good race in town before i come into him.

Race 4 - Poor race. Stepping is the obvious pick, but i can just see her getting trapped 3 deep outside slow horses. For that reason, imma go with Amber Lodge....the perrenial non-winner. The reason being that she has undoubtedly raced in much better company than this, and she has drawn the good gate. Stepping is the 2nd pick. If she gets in to a good trail, she'll win this. But thats a big if, and so i've jumped off. Miss Information for 3rd after 2 narrow wins at the Coast. Given the wins rates of most of the horses in the race, i wouldn't be racing to back them for much at all.

Race 5 - I like Captain Biggles here. The first start was a good effort behind Stolit who has since won in town. The breeding of this horse is very good and he should continue to improve off the first run. There will be good money here for Trivo, and so i might get a good price for this bloke. Trivo won well last time, but it was at the Sunshine Coast. They have to win very well to transfer that form to metro races. Mellifluous coming back in journey and with the addition of blinkers may help. The run 2 back at Doomben was great and a return to that would see him competitive.

Race 6 - 1000 seems to be as far as Fleeting Echo wants to go (at least on paper). Given that this is 1000m and he gets in under th min with Price's claim, i think he should win. The effort at EF last time was great and with the alley here, a repeat effort is on the cards. You won't get odds, but i'd say you'll get a return. So Chic is ready to improve today at odds, i think. Although she was given every chance to win last time (with the hot speed in the race), the effort was OK and this is an easier assignment. Cielo Gold ran well at Ippy last time and deserves a chance in town. This isn't the strongest field, so she shouldn't be discounted.

Race 7 - Good race. I think its a race in 2. Rasmussen and Noble Gaze. Given that we really haven't seen Rasmussen tested, i've settled on him. Around Doomben he really should get a kick off the turn and prove too speedy for them. Although there is some talk that the extra 150m is a problem, i can't see it. The 1350m at Doomben isn't the hardest task going around and speedsters can get it (Babinda Half a while back). Noble Gaze, as Crash said, has run better times recently, but Rasmussen still has improvement in him. Any significant improvement should see him past Noble Gaze. Having said that, Noble Gaze has the runs on the board and those good times have been over the 1350m journey. He is a clear 2nd pick and a major danger to Rasmussen if he hasn't improved. Maybe Imperialism for 3rd, after a couple of runs after a break. He will be coming home at the death for a placing.

Race 8 - The 2 scratchings have taken some of the appeal out of this race (given that they were my 2 top selections :)). Maybe Spur Me On can overcome the weight and win. He is the speed in the race, and if he can get a kick on the turn and put a gap in them, he might be able to hold on. Socialist will get back and be running home strongly, but EF is his track and he may not get enough room here. Sweet Ransom was a good effort behind Rasmussen last time and will appreciate the easier field here.

Good luck everyone :)

Tough day at Doomben outside the obvious shorties.

Race 1: 7.Reach, 10 King of Trumps; 1.Nediym's Image

Not much interest in this low-grade event. Reach likes the mile and won its last start this course and distance.

Race 2: 1.Bikkie Tin Blues

Good time to go have a smoke.

Race 3: 4.Pappapo; 2.Skyleda; 8.Eskimo Dan

Pappapo was wide last start and held on ok for 3rd. Got too far back the run before that. Will camp on the speed here so prepared to give it a go in a wide open event.

Race 4: 1.Stepping; 2. Amber Lodge; 3.Miss Information

Stepping has 3 placings this track and distance. Will need luck from the draw especially with the rail out. Amber Lodge gets a nice weight drop from last run and might get a soft run in the lead.

Race 5: too hard; don't know.

Race 6: 3. Fleeting Echo; 11.So Chic

Fleeting Echo had no luck behind Suubird last time. No weight, drawn well. Looks a very good bet.

Race 7: 9.Rasmussen; 6.Noble Gaze

Rasmussen goes to 1350 for the first time. Will again have to work hard from the draw but should be too strong.

Race 8: 8.Sweet Ransom; 6.Persuades; 4.Socialist

Even sort of race. Colless goes back onto Sweet Ransom who made up a stack of ground when 3.2 length 4th to Rasmussed. Nice each-way bet.

Cheers

Horrible day. Lost on the early races, had a big go at Fleeting Echo, then a slightly smaller go at Rasmussen (which won back the Fleeting Echo money, but not without almost chewing through my tongue when I thought he might go down) then lost on the last.

Hope you guys did better.

Cheers

Fox in Sox made it good, and Court Command brought it home. The less said about the rest, the better :)...
