The field for the W.S. Cox Plate was declared today with Assertive Lad and Ustinov included to provide a final line-up of nine starters.

1 NORTHERLY (5) F Kersley/P Payne 58.0
2 ASSERTIVE LAD (9) G Waterhouse/J Cassidy 58.0
3 GRANDERA (3) S Bin Suroor/F Dettori 58.0
4 DEFIER (6) G Walter/C Munce) 58.0
5 FIELDS OF OMAGH (8) T McEvoy/D Oliver 58.0
6 LONHRO (7) J Hawkes D Beadman 56.5
7 USTINOV (1) J.B. Cummings/S Arnold 56.5
8 SUNLINE (4) T McKee/G Ghilds 55.5
9 BEL ESPRIT (2) J Symons/K McEvoy 48.5

*courtest of AAP/Racing and Sports.

I can't wait to hear the roar as they fan around the home turn and Sunline is 2 or more lengths clear.

Go the Queen! I'd love to see her go out a winner! Three Cox Plates and 14 Group 1 wins - both equal to Kingston Town. Hope she can hang on!

Showers down here - wish I could take them back home with me - The track surface will be interesting.

I like Grandera, Defier and Sunline and in that order but what a field, small but full of talent.

Great race.

I hope too that Sunline can do it but at the odds I will be backing Ustinov and Grandera and taking them each with the field in a quinella.

I just hope Bel Esprit mows them all down.

Always thought Lonhro, but he wont want to give her too much start in the straight. With rain about, I'm warming to Sunline...

No mention of 2002/2003 Horse Of The Year, so here he is, Northerly by a neck - from Sunline/Lonhro with Bel Esprit rattling home late.

Homer Simpson said "what are the chances of getting sick on a Saturday?, must be a million to one!" Well I just won the lottery, not any saturday but Cox Plate Saturday. Look at the time, 2.30 & I just got out of bed. Hope Sunline feels better then I do.

:sad::(:(

Should have thrown in the foreigner for Lohnro, but that's racing. Enjoyed the race greatly despite losing all my doubles with Defier. Strong race by that horse.

Cheers
