Platinum Scissors is currently 78th in order of entry for the Melbourne Cup.

The horse MUST win the Victoria Derby to gain a start in the Cup.

How then is it possible for the following Derby/Melb. Cup doubles combinations to be offered by TAB Sportsbet???

Helenus/Platinum Scissors $52
Davidoff/Platinum Scissors $115
Ain't Here/Platinum Scissors $170

The list goes on.

If Platinum Scissors wins the Derby, it's a losing bet. If Platinum Scissors loses the Derby, it's a losing bet because the horse won't qualify for the Cup.

Am I missing something here or is this one of the biggest rip offs the TAB has tried to pull.

They must think punters are ignorant and uneducated. Then again, that's how they make their money. (The Davidoff/Plat Scissors price is in from $140 a few days ago. Now that's smart money).

Another example of why the TAB will NEVER EVER lose.

Reenster,
It can happen.
Dead heat in the Derby.
If you factor that requirement in anything under about 50000/1 is too short.

Wouldn't be too hard on the TAB - they only offer bets that people want to put money on - if people are stupid enough to want to bet on impossible combinations then why should they refuse the money? You would certainly need your head read if you are placing doubles bets on horses that are very doubtful starters though!

Would you allow the TAB to accept all in bets on scratchings becareful?
By your logic that would be ok and you would have the same chance of winning as with these ridiculous 3YO quotes. If someone is stupid enough to bet on a scratching let them do their dough.
The problem with these doubles is that the less switched on punter may not be aware of Melbourne Cup qualification rules for 3YO's and think a Davidoff-Platinum Scissors double for example is a chance. It has no chance as it cannot happen and the TAB is reaching a new level of crookedness allowing unsuspecting people invest money with zero prospect of a return.
I bet one of those evil bookmakers wouldn't give you a quote on something like this - most of them now understand the importance of client satisfaction; a concept lost on the TAB.

TO Reenster.....Would it not be possible that Tabsportsbet can legimately offer this double?Ever heard of a substitute in a double for a scratching?I thought all TAB's had that. Also I heard on the radio that Platinum Scissors only has to run in the first 4 to qualify, don't know if that is right or not.I do know the winner is qualified though. Why would anyone want to effectively kill off such a promising horses career by running him anyway??No 3y.o.has won since about 1940 from memory,I think it's name was Skipton, again, from memory don't quote me.

G'day Angel,

There are no substitutes on fixed return betting. Your horse is scratched, you do your dough.

However, you're right. It turns out that Platinum Scissors does only have to run in the first four to qualify for the Gup so the above doubles combinations are, in fact, possible.

Cheers
