Autumn Tipping Comp 2015

[Sportz]

NATIONAL PUNTING LEAGUE (Autumn 2015)

Here's how the comp works. We will all be tipping against each other for 8 weeks from this Saturday, February 7, through to March 28. Then at the completion of those 8 weeks, the top 8 tipsters will go head to head in a final series during the month of April.



RULES

1. Of the 8 Saturdays during the preliminary rounds, you must tip on at least 6 of them.

You are allowed to miss 2 weeks. No more. People will have to start tipping by February 21 or they miss out.

2. You can post anywhere between 5 and 15 selections each week.

3. You can bet anywhere between $50 and $150 each week.

The leading tipsters are judged on % profit, not the total amount of profit. So betting more won't give you a better chance.

4. You can bet either win only or win & place and you can bet any multiples of $5 win or place, up to a total of $30.

Win only betting will be the same as usual... $5, $10, $15, $20, $25 or $30 for the win. With win & place betting, you don't have to have the standard "each way" bet. For example, instead of having to bet $15 each way, you can now have $10 win / $20 place, $5 win / $25 place etc etc. The only thing you can't do is bet place only. So as long as you have at least $5 win on a horse and the total bet doesn't exceed $30, then you're okay.

5 . Races you can tip in:
You can tip at any Australian or New Zealand meeting covered by Tattsbet on Saturdays. Which is just about everything.



Calculating your $ return:
I will be using "Sportingbet Best Tote +5%" to calculate the return on all races if available. If not available, I will be using Tattsbet dividends.

I skipped this week: 4 meetings abandoned + 3 meetings missing from the online formguide I scrape + NZ racing already underway by the time I get to the form = too few races to choose from.

Last round's main selection method threw up 2 candidates this week, one of whom was Just A Girl, that won the first at Rosehill, paying $8/$2.50. Last round I was also one selection short, so deferred to another method: the same this week found Midnight Rattler at Gosford ($1.90/$1.20 winner). ...*sigh* I could've thrown a dart for 2 further selections and I still would've come out in front. Compared to last week...

Hope everyone is doing well with their real money - and doing very poorly with their play money: so I have a chance to catch up next week! ;)

Okay, a few more people joined in this week, but still only 11 in total.

So I've decided to make the following changes....

The first part of the comp will now run for another week (9 weeks in total) and will go up until Golden Slipper day.

People will have an extra week they can miss (3 in total) and that means that it's not too late if someone wants to join in next Saturday.

There will now be only 4 people in the finals instead of 8 and they will take place on April 11, 18 & 25.

That is basically reverting to how the Autumn comp went in the past couple of years.

It was a close-run thing though. Again, half of the race meeting form guides weren't available on the site I scrape. But real money is what counts, and as long as you are ahead with this, sticking to your commented thing, then that's what counts.

The bet sizes are the same as we've been using all the way through.

The person listed first in each matchup finished higher on the ladder, so they get to bet $120 while the tipster listed second gets to bet $100. The winner will simply be the one whose tips return the most money, not the biggest % return.

The tipster in each matchup who posts second is only allowed to include one of the horses tipped by the person who posted first.

Just to clarify this. The person who's listed 2nd doesn't have to wait around and post their tips 2nd. They can get in and post their tips first if they want to. And whoever ends up posting 2nd, they can only tip one of the horses that the 1st tipster has picked.

In the unlikely event of a tie, the match will be awarded to the tipster listed 2nd as they have bet the least and therefore have the better profit/loss result.
