Patezza my top pick in a pretty open race. 3 runs back from a spell have all been good. The roomy Broadmeadow track should suit.

Sportsman my next pick. 2 runs back from a spell have been reasonable. Should now be ready to show a bit of form. Long run home should suit.

Also have a liking for Arena Valadora at 25/1 - okay this distance & first-up & Amex at 33/1 – 2 starts back ran an excellent race behind Consular (Sunshine Coast) this distance in record time.

And after all of that, I still may have missed the winner!

#7 GABFEST EW will do me.
Has a nice weight and the distance will suit. Can see him being settled back in the field from a wide draw and then motoring home at the end.

Would have to be at his very best to have a chance in this.....carried 4kg over limit last year to win.....this year has to carry 7kg over the limit!

I think Sportman and Sunshine Sam....will be doing tris and 1st 4's with these 2 on top...
I reckon there's value in this race..
hopefully horses like Amex, Prime century and Precise timing can fill the places..
Prepared to risk Patezza for 1st as i think he'll be find it tough from barrier 1 ...he likes to get back so he might be in a bit of traffic..

Like Mr Scaramunga and Silver fun in the 2nd and 5th as well..
also think Meadowie Express in the 6th can run a race....

shame i can't actually watch the races..

It may mean nothing and I have no evidence to back this statement up. But I live in Newcastle and see a lot of races, and when Allan Robinson rides for John Hawkes he rides as he is told, and seems to win a lot.Again this is just an opinion.

Surprised nobody has mentioned NIPS!
Winner 3 from 4 2nd-up; 7 wins from 20 starts good track; Chris Munce.

To quote Mental As Anything - The NIPS Are Getting Bigger!

Hey all - I'll be backing Sportsman, esp. if he's still the $10 he was on sportsbet tonight tomorrow morn. POTTING THE ARSE OUT OF COOL TRENT, by the way.

Robinson's current stats show 12 wins from 44 rides for Hawkes.
That's a 27.3% strike rate, not bad at all.

I know that Patezza has been something of a a "gunna" but as Paddy pointed out,his 3 runs back have been quite good, and I just have this gut feeling that Guy Walter has set him for this race.Nothing wrong with Hugh Bowman on his back either,a most underated hoop IMO.The big track will suit him,and he can run some pretty slick sectionals at the end of his races.Disagree with the other poster about barrier 1 not suiting, think it is ideal as Bowman can let him amble out and take up a nice possie, somewhere midfield, then pull him into the open Broadmeadow spaces on the home turn....then whoosh...the race is all over.IMO this horse is a xxx special today.
I only hope I'm right,as I intend to have a good go on him. Also intend taking Patezza as the banker in the trifecta
,with cool front, nips and gabfest for 2nd,field for 3rd.
Fingers crossed, legs crossed, just hope Idont lose whats dangling in between them!!!
