Lay The Favourite Contest

Following on from the Lays Of The Contest, intend running another one if there is sufficient interest.

This one will resolve around laying the favourites.

The rules are simple:

Eight favourites, based on the pre-post markets, will be nominated from which contestants have to nominate three (no more, no less) that they think will lose.

As in the previous contest, returns will be based on official SP's.

The contest will start this weekend, and i will nominate the eight favourites by 2pm tomorrow (Friday).

Hey Chuck just wondering what made you lay Perlin, the performance of the horse itself or the other horses in the race i.e. mummify?

yeah, i think Mummify is a class above... $2.20 is way under the odds for a horse who had a good run against an ordinary field last start on a heavy track, has drawn barrier 12 and is up against the Caulfield Stks and Caulfield Cup winner. Rule One of racing: Never ask a horse to do something it has never done before. I know mummify gives him 8.5 kilos, but the 3 kg weight relief with the apprentice jockey will help. Perlin is a proven Open Handicap horse, Mummify is a proven Group 1 horse, and a difference of 5.5 kilos doesn't justify the class difference.

Yeh. The short quote for perlin means there may be a juicier price on offer for mummify. It is a horse that can 'carry weight' and i think that is something i think some people are forgetting. It was the same story with Roman Arch a couple of weeks ago. I got something like $7 which is absurd, all because people were like, he can't win with the weight.

After many weeks of 'Laying the Favourites' the final outcome came down to 1/2 neck in deciding the winner of the contest. Had Aquiline won race 5 at Moonee Valley rather than get beaten by that 1/2 neck then Feather would have been the contest winner.
