Think aussies arent great value, seem to always get blows in running first day and a half , might have small bet on england early on and go from there

I suppose if you bet early you could even get a change of odds after the toss

i will be backing big on the aussies - they're just too good in tests. I have also put money on series results 3-1 and 4-0. $2.02 is Overs!

I also am betting on the Australians. Centuries to Martyn, Langer and Ponting will boost confidence.

According to ukweather.co.uk, the forecast will be Thurs - Partly Cloud, Fri - Partly Cloud, Sat & Sun Scattered Showers, Monday - Mostly Cloud.

Read into that what you will.

Hmmm, yeah. Don't trust the English weather. If it's dry and hot for this series it will suit the Aussies. Cloudy and cold will suit the poms.

is anyone having a go in the www.dreamcricket.com ashes fantasy comp? I much rather this method of picking than the other types.....

just click on "register" (which is free) in the top left hand corner, then either go to "ASHES 2005" or "Create Team" and go from there. My team is called "Chuck's XI"

Im with you on this one sportz and I wouldnt mind being proved wrong but I dont think this going to be a walk in the park for the aussies ......However this is REAL Cricket and were pretty damn good at it .....conversly the Poms arent as atrocious as they used to be and the weather could be responsible for any number of draws ....a lot of that has been negated by the changing of the laws to allow for making up time for play lost BUT it is ENGLAND...Im looking around for some silly odds on the aussies (series bets or somesuch)so I can bet against it. It may be the weather that has the aussies at evens (betfair ) Gamebookers in england has them 1.85

How many hours of racking your brain did it take for you to come up with that name??? :D

Hayden (most runs) at $7.50 looks good value to me...think he'll have a good series..
might have a go at that...i dont think i've won anything betting on the cricket..
i remember backing England in the world one day championship thingy yonks ago at 9's ,,put a $100 on them..they got into the finals with WI who were paying $3.50 for the win...
WI won and i lost the 100 when i should of had a saver on WI and would of won regardless..
Sportz had a good laugh about that one.. :)

Between the weather and the fact the poms'll be fired up for the first test bouyed by some one day success, the draw might not be a bad bet

Harmison snuck through the grill on pontings helmut ......Harmison is very erratic but he looks as though he might snag somthing ...Just watched langer try to pull him to mid on ...that type of shot could cost a wicket ...As long as they remember its test cricket and be patient

What a forecast!!!

I've got to say the $6 available before the game is looking pretty damn good right now. Australia's rattled.

aussies are trying too hard to exert influence, should have let game unfold, they are very impatient at moment

Did you take $6,cause if you did you can load up on Essendon this weekend

Actually, I got on just a bit too early and only got $5.50 which I thought was still great value.

Anyway, I think I'll leave the bombers alone, thanks Rabz. I can't honestly see them winning. But I guess I'm going to have to follow through with the plan and tip 'em in the tipping comp. :o

Anyway, back to the Cricket and I reckon it's all down to one man... Gilly. So many times in the past, he's rescued Australia from here. I just don't know if he can do it again. :o

I said many months ago that this could be the series when we lose the Ashes, and I still certainly think that. I hope the Aussies can prove me wrong.

.......and the $2.40 for Australia at lunch time is looking okay too!!! (not sure what they were paying at tea)

Just goes to show that the betting method that myself and DP follow is a pretty good one in any Test match that Australia's playing. Now, as long as it doesn't rain for 3 days. And even then, there might still be a result!!!

$2.85 on betfair at one stage :). I can't beleave people didnt see england batting like that and offered stupid odds. Everyone knows englands top/middle order have struggled and on a pitch that was all over the place the $2.85 was a very nice price lol.

Sportz
22nd July 2005, 08:20 AM
190 is not a big score. It doesn't take much to get up to that total, so England deserved to be favourites at that stage. Even now, Pieterson could still do something incredible tonight and get up close to that score.

I've got to say that I think England would be stronger if they had Graham Thorpe in there somewhere. I've always thought he was England's most reliable batsman against us in the past.

Sportz
22nd July 2005, 10:51 AM
Had a look at the replays of the England wickets, and a couple of them seemed to keep a bit low. Or was that just an optical illusion or something. If it's keeping low on the first day, this test may not last till the weekend!!!

Floydyboy
22nd July 2005, 05:03 PM
Well I didnt sit up at all and havent seen all the wickets but the side on view of haydens wicket that I saw (even though it went straight through him) I thought stayed lower than normal ...17 wickets in a days play ....Youd have to at least put some of that down to the state of the pitch ...... low or no

Musta read this forum and made a decision he just announced his retirement from rep cricket effective immediately...

Is that true Floydy? If so thats really disappointing. I have always admired how Graham Thorpe went about his cricket. A very disappointing end to his career.

I hope you dirty Queenslanders are ready for him to inflict some more punishment in the Pura Cup this year!! :)

Im not a true queenslander
Ive been here since 2001 and Im big on the Lions and the Broncos but as hard as I try I still cant say QUEENSLANDER!!!!!!! with any conviction yet ..so until I do I spose Im still a bluey ....
They announced it during the break at the change of innings on SBS

CATCHES WIN MATCHES.....I havent watched that much of this test but I know that the poms have been droppin heaps how many did they put down in the second innings anyone know
Hey Sportz I see Floydeboy ran third yesterday Might pick one up soon ....
I know its the wrong forum but years ago During the Carnivals I used to look for all the NZrs coming across the tasman I used to leave em their first start and back thier next 3 or until they won I used to get some nice winners ...The invaders dont seem to do so well these days though

Sportz
24th July 2005, 10:56 AM
I can see why Rod Marsh resigned from his position at English Cricket. Apparently, one of the main reasons was the fact that they continued to pick this Jones as wicket-keeper ahead of the guy he wanted in there who was a much better keeper but not so good with the bat. I can see why he was upset.

Floydy, your namesake likes REALLY wet tracks. If he has a slow or heavy track, he's a definite place chance at least, but I think he might possibly need a real bog to win over here.

e.g Xcellent.....that horse i swear....arghh....I'll throw my money into the fire before that horse gets it again..

Sportz I think the wicketkeeper's name is Chris Reid??

Dead set if Australia don't win (rain forecast for Day 4 & 5) I'll be fuming at Koertzen. That was plum, disgraceful decision. Not the first time we have copped his decisions in this test.

what i love about the coverage on fox is the commentary of bob willis........... undoubtably the most negative commentator i have heard. eng 7/158 and he has already said that the summer is going to be torture for england, talk about giving up!!!

If you could see bob willis, i reckon there would be a dark cloud hovering around him on a permanent basis !!!.. and i had to laugh when on sat night they were saying how could the umpires had been... aussies robbed at least 3 times
