Can you believe the poms price.... mortgage the house !!!!
You would think, having outplayed aussies in last 3 tests that england would be favs.
As good as Aussies have been in past don't like them in this one

Again, I wonder exactly what Cricket these guys are watching, because it sure isn't the same Cricket I'm watching!

Has the aussie team been announced yet?Seems like Hayden will keep his place,at least I hope so,think he is due for a big one.The Oval has been a slaughterhouse for us,so fingers crossed that we can win the toss and make a big score,so for the first time in this series we are not playing catch up!!I would play Mcgill in tandem with Warnie if it was up to me(which it is not!).Apart from Mcgrath the poms are having no trouble with our pace attack, and Warnies 28 wickets suggest they are vulnerable to quality spin.Taits debut was OK,but not spectacular.I would take the chance and play Stu and Warnie, really think thats our best option. The Oval is usually susceptible to spin on the last few days, and the poms only have Giles.Matty is good against spin, that is his forte,I am really confident he is going to fire in this Test.Might even win the Ashes for us.

Oh, I certainly hope so. PLEASE!!!!
If England win the Ashes, fair dinkum, we'll never hear the end of it. An English sports reporter said the other day that they would probably become England's 3rd most popular sporting team ever, only behind the Soccer World Cup ('66) and Rugby World Cup ('03). I don't know. I reckon they might even be more popular than the Rugby team.
I've already backed the poms at $3.85 (an AMAZING Price) and taken the draw at $2.75 as well. I'm telling you right now, that I will be absolutely delighted if I lose those bets!

As much as I would love for us to win 5th test, i would rate us at 5.50 to do so. Really disappointing to see us carrying on about sub fielders etc. the reality is that we have been outplayed and have only ourselves to blame. Just a thought... what is the point of such a large touring party with so few chances to play?? Would be better to draft in players from county cricket who are match hardened IMO.

Poor old MacGill and Hodge could have been playing county cricket and been getting a good run. Instead, they've hardly got a game.

With Simon Jones being ruled out there is talk of replacing him with either Anderson or Collingwood.
I think the Poms should use Anderson.
Why you ask? ;)
Everybody knows Collingwood fails to deliver in September !!!
:D :D :D

I still can't work out how Australia are favourites. If anything, the draw should be favourite. Rain is predicted for today, and if England wins the toss and bats well, they'll just bat on and on and probably won't even try to win the game.

Let me re-phrase that, for mine the Aussies will fire up rather than for me especially.

Well, England's won the toss, so our chances of winning just dropped straight away. :(

aussies are still too short for me.
England will more than likely score 370-400, australia will bat all 2nd day and hopefully be around 300 by close. bat 3rd day till tea for 500, need to bowl england out for say 300 , chase 100 on last day... easy.
but can they make 500 ? unlikely.
bowl england out for 300 ? maybe if warne takes 7.
chase 100 + on last day ? possible
What happens if they lose time for rain? these scores assume scoring rate of 4 an over... england will defend if need be.
cant see it happening.

Apparently, it's raining at the moment.
I have absolutely NO IDEA why Australia are so short!!! It's just ridiculous. As far as I'm concerned, to justify the price they are, they had to bowl England out for around 250.
I can't believe the odds at Sportingbet:
$2.10 Australia
$3.10 Draw
$3.85 England
What Cricket are they watching??? England will make no attempt to win this game at all and the rain is likely to help them.

I took the draw this morning the with forecast of rain for 2 days , but i'm happy if we win, could not back the pomms to win this game, even with monopoly money !

I obviously got some dodgy info about the weather! :o
Goldmember,
I've backed the draw and an England win and I will do quite well if England wins the series. But I can tell you that I will be delighted if I lose those bets. I just hate the thought of the poms winning the Ashes. :(

Sportz, this is only my 2nd bet on the tests, with my punting cap on, i thought the draw was a good bet, but if i collect we lose the ashes, so i'm with a draw or aust, i honestly could not see the pomms winning THIS match, they have out played us in previously and if you went on form they should be favourite, but the gut tells me they cant win this one !

England 373
Australia 112/0 at tea on day two.
Langer 75 (105)
Hayden 32 (96)
Bad light has stopped play and the weather doesn't look too good either, covers are on. :(
Here is hoping it clears quickly :)

So, how are we all going to feel tomorrow morning when hell freezes over and pigs start to fly??? ;)
Certainly looks like the poms are going to win the Ashes tonight. And I'm not sure that even the much healthier look to my betting account will be enough compensation for having to put up with that nightmare!!!

Spot on Sportz,
Oh Warnie, Warnie, Warnie.
Pieterson out for 0 would've won them the Ashes. Oh well, it's fair to say that the better team won the series. Be interesting to see what happens as a result, if any, of the fallout. Is it time to restructure for the future?

I'm afraid it's a bit too late. As I said on the other thread, they should have been introducing new younger players into the team over the last couple of years while they've been thrashing easier teams.
