Thanks for the comments.

Sportz, wish I could tell you how I was doing it .... pure luck I think. I am just spending about 5-10 mins per race doing the form. I then go through the top rated horses and "somehow" decide which ones I think have a good chance.

The "somehow" changes each day depending on what looks like an easier race, or where I might get some good odds.

It usually takes me an hour to do a meeting as I leave out races which have a lot of unraced horses. These races are too hard to rate.

I think the secret is I am looking at all the races/horses in the meeting/race and just picking the races I think are worthwhile for a bet (Chance of good odds or clear cut favourite).

I think this is where the science leaves the form analysis and a bit of "art" is involved as my interpretation of chance of good odds or a clear cut winner will be different from everyone else's analysis.

As I said so far so good.

Not a great day today. But that happens. In fact I think this is the first losing day since I started posting.

I thought Hersperia would have run better since it was its second run in from a spell, but it was a disspoaintment. Tristo left his run too late and was at the back of the field for most of the race and Mahr just didn't perform, he took too long for the jockey to motivate to run on and by that stage the race was over.

With a chance ran a nice race and was well positioned throughout.

Great figures Wes. It is the long-priced winners that make the difference. Backing shorties, no matter how well-credentialled they appear to be and how impressive the strike rates are, still results in a long term loss. Your strike rate is very good. I think having a reasonable strike rate is important from a psychological point of view. Long dry spells are demoralising - not saying anything that nobody doesn't know here though.

I have another blackbook running around today. I think it is a chance of minor placings and may have a slight chance of winning the race.

The horse is Mr Alpine in Canterbury Race 5. He ran a close second in barrier trials to Pulsator back in Novemeber losing by 1.5 lengths. To be this close to Pulsator was a good effort as it was a different class entirely. Since then he has been in 2 races for 60K prize money and came mid field in both losing by 3 lengths and 5 lengths. This race looks to be a touch easier with the prize money being only 23K. Most of the other horses have not ran a race before and his race experience should help out.

I won't be counting this tip in my usual stats but thought I would put it out there for anyone looking for a horse to back in the race.

This is my first blackbook selection from barrier trials to run where I thought it might place. I didn't expect him to place in either of his last 2 runs.

I am still placing the bets just not putting the tips up anymore as it is a lot of work to post the tips and the results.

I have been getting a good number of winners lately. Yesterday at Canterbury I got 3 from 3 where I had star mystic (2.50), posadas(1.80) and scission(2.40). I posted the tips for a month and I think I will leave it at that ... its too much work and I must say I commend anyone who can place tips every day and keep the results updated.

Good luck Wes. It's a tough game to better, this one. I think the human part of it is the toughest i.e. sticking with something when in the midst of a run of outs. Inevitably you jump off just before the method redeems itself and lives up to your research. I do most of my serious stuff on about 16 races a year:
Epsom, Villiers, Doncaster, Newmarket, Goodwood, Oakleigh Plate, Ten Thousand, Stradbroke, Doomben Cup, Caulfield Cup, Melbourne Cup, Railway Stakes, Auckland Cup, Wellington Cup, SA and WA Derbies.
I will bet seriously on these if the field size is 14 or more. This may seem contradictory, but if you look at the dividends served up in these races, they allow you to take a reasonable number of runners and still finish in front. In the last few months these races seem to have been going to horses that are well fancied and the dividends have been ordinary. Looking back over the last 10 years or so there have been many 'getable' winners at long odds - Tales of Triomphe in last years SA Deby was the last big one (rated 6th by me and paid $70+ NSW); for some reason the SA Derby seems to produce good longshot winners (Cheviot $50+ - rated 4th and Bulta $100+ rated 8th are two that spring to mind) - anyway, check some of this out for yourself and, as I began, good luck.

Since Thursday I have gone very well. In the last 4 days I have had 15 bets for 10 winners and 3 seconds and 2 losses. This has given me a ROT of 174% ( Profit of $81 ).
