Being a student of form (self proclaimed), I was a little bemused by the win of Jugah Shar in the last race of the day (Stony Creek Dec. 27) at TAB odds of around $63-00.
That race was the last leg of the TAB quadrella.
Prior to that race, Jugah Shar had won a picnic maiden at Balnarring in June 2002, and a C1 hcp. at Mgt. over 1500m on a hvy track in July 2003.
18 runs and 18 mnths. later, Jugah Shar comes out at Stony Creek and is allowed to lead on it's ear to win a C2 hcp. over 1600m., inflating the quadrella dividend to a healthy $6200-00 with the first 3 legs won by horses at dividends of less than $4-00. ($1-00 all up at Tab divs on the 1st 3 winners amounted to around $42-00)
Looking at times for the day at Stony Creek, the 3yo maiden hcp. run over the same distance was won in a time of 1.38.1 secs.
Jugah Shar won the C2 in a time of 1.39.6 secs.-1.5 secs slower than the maiden winner.
Amber Folly, the fav. for this race, had run a corrected time of 1.38.65 in winning a C1 over 1600m. at it's prior start at Stony Creek in dead going.
I am unable to find a stewards report for the latest meeting but if it does appear, I'll wager their will be no mention of rival jockey tactics in this race in allowing a horse to dictate terms at such a pace as to make it impossible to run down in the sprint home.
I wonder if the riders of the 2 well fancied horses wil be asked why they were sitting back in such a slowly run race.
What am I trying to say?
I'm not allowed to say it.

I'm not allowed to say it.Race 8 – GOURMET GALLOPS – MON JAN 2 - 1614 metres: Diamonds For Me was slow to begin.
Passing the 1500 metres Illegally Blonde shifted out abruptly and bumped Sir Brave Heart out onto Better Toy resulting in these three horses becoming unbalanced.
Shortly after this Illegally Blonde again shifted out and bumped Sir Brave Heart.
Illegally Blonde which was laying out and overracing brushed Sir Brave Heart on several occasions near the 1400 metres.
When asked if he could offer any explanation for the improved performance of Jugah Shar, Mr J. Keane, trainer of Jugah Shar the winner, stated that after a reasonable first up effort over an unsuitable distance of 1000 metres at Mornington after a long break, Mr Keane felt that Jugah Shar would appreciate stepping up in distance today with the benefit of the first up run.
So, stewards are appearing to be seen to be doing a job.
I reckon Mr. Keane might have been surprised by the win considering the win tote divs.
Bit of a joke really!
No mention of the lack of judgement by riders of the two favourites.

Jugah Shar has run just about stone motherless at every run since this triumph.
Today, Feb. 07 at Stony Creek, a 6yo horse by the name of Baron Geiger led all the way to win the C1 hcp. over 1100m. at TAB odds of $53-00.
Prior to today, this 6yo horse had won a picnic maiden at a place I can't pronounce, a picnic hcp. at Woolamai and recently another picnic hcp. at Woolamai over 1000m. 4 strs.
In the start prior to today's run, Baron Geiger finished 5/6 in a picnic hcp. at
Balnarring.
Career prizemoney before today for this 6yo was $1960-00.
The win of Baron Geiger occurred in a leg of the quadrella and contributed largely to the massive 50c. unit return of $118,000-00.
I cannot imagine how anyone could fluke this result given the price of the 1st leg winner at odds of $78-90 and the defeat of both favourites in the other 2 legs.
But, fluke it they did.? Victorian quadrellas never seem to jackpot these days, regardless of the price of the winners.
PS. Don't know how those other posts eneded up on top of this quote/reply.

this may be a little off what you are talking about but I find it interesting anyway... Keep in mind that these are NOT all winners only my winners...
Stony Creek appears to have a higher than normal average dividend of late... Since December 1 2005 there have been 45 races held at the place... I have found the winner 15 times for an average div of $5.54. (Best Tote) So I am not bagging the place. Has been a pretty good hunting ground
Compare that to all the races run since December 1 that I have rated and have been operated on by the NSW TAB
There have been 3098 races, have found the winner 849 times with an av dividens of $3.89... (Best Tote)
It looks like Stony Creek is not a place for shorties? That may help people in future when looking at betting at the place.. give the fav the flick?? Tho having said that 2X 2's on horses won on the 2nd Jan (that I rated on top) I could only find the one winner there today in R3...
What do ya think? Is there an inherent reason as to why the prices of winners appear to be so much higher than average? Well my average anyway... :)

G'day XP.
What I am referring to is some very strange results in races which are a leg of the Victorian Quadrella, where dividends such as yesterday's result of $118,500-00 are very lucrative indeed.
It is hard to say what you want to say because of what you are not allowed to say.
Suffice to say that from now on, my quadrella investments will be at metropolitan and major country venues where controls are as strict as they can be.
