Okay, not really serious about anything today. Having said that, I think you could do worse than follow Greg Ryan at Inverell. He appears to have some good rides. Anyway, for what it's worth, here are a few thoughts for today:

Inverell R3 - 3 LIBBY'S RAINBOW, 1 Timbers
Inverell R5 - 6 TOP BEAT, 2 Amaizing Lady
Inverell R6 - 4 BELVOIRE, 5 Hayil Stone Miss
Inverell R7 - 2 FRISCO'S HAREM & 5 DESKTOP MAGIC
Inverell R8 - 2 IRISH LOUP, 5 Lambeth Walk
Ascot R8 - 6 BLACK TOM & 2 EARLY EXPRESS

Tread warily. Tomorrow's racing looks FAR better.

No mate. As I said, I'm not taking today too seriously. I did do some quick ratings for the Inverell and Perth Cups, but the other races were just my personal assessments after looking at the form. I'm wary of the Perth Cup as I think something could possibly upset the two favs. I think the Inverell Cup looks like it may be a good betting race.

This year, I'm going to really concentrate on major metro racing days and feature races, because that's where I do best.

Well, Greg Ryan managed 2 wins from the 5 races I thought he had a chance in. I thought he may have done even better than that, but if you had backed him for the win in those 5 races, you would have shown a profit.

Eroyd,

As I said, I'm concentrating much more on the major metropolitan meetings this year, so I'm not sure about tipping specials on a day like this.

Anyway, I've picked out a few races for today.

P. Mac R6
Top picks: 1 FIVE BOB & 4 YARRAS
(1,4,5,7 - 2,3)

P. Mac R7
Top Pick: 1 NATURAL DESTINY
(1,5,2,4)

Benalla R4
Top picks: 1 SNIP THE DOCTOR & 2 SULTAN OF SWING
(1,2,3,5)

Benalla R6
Top pick: 1 COUNT TO ZERO
(1,3,5,6)

If I had to pick out a couple of best bets today, then it would be Natural Destiny and Count To Zero.

A few others for people to think about today:
P. Mac R4 - 1
P. Mac R5 - 2 (EW)
Benalla R7 - 3
Benalla R8 - 3

I can see why you like to have a minimum price on your bets, xpt.

I liked numbers 1 & 2 in R4 at Benalla, but I just didn't like the prices they ended up. I thought there might be a bit more value than that. In the end, I simply decided to have a small quinella & trifecta on 1,2,3,5 and was quite pleased with the result.

Looks like the other ones I picked out are going to be short too.

Sportz
3rd January 2006, 04:48 PM
Well, I had a feeling that Idria might be a danger to Count To Zero today, so I'm glad I DIDN'T make it a "best bet". :D Again, no real value in that race. The trifecta was tiny. I managed to find the trifecta and first4 in R6 at Port Macquarie and the divs were a bit better there.

You're Just a youngster, Sportz. When you get mid-fifties, you get to feel every injury you ever had before again, with arthritis thrown in for fun. The hangovers hurt more than they used to... Life truly does begin at 40, if you're older than that. I hope you had a great birthday.

Agree Glenn mid-fiftties is the time when all the previous years activities punish you, and to make matters worse the mrs starts to look like the ma-in-law, and behave like her.
Then you get the senior moments, which can be fun especially when you back the wrong gee-gees, matter of fact thats par for the course for me...

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother trying to give tips??? I mean, seriously, a lot of the time, it's just much more successful to simply go with the money. Race 3 at Stony Creek and Race 1 at Cessnock have both gone to the horse which was very well backed at the track, and in both cases, they won easily, while my top selection struggled into 4th and 3rd place.

Well, I myself concentrate mainly on Saturdays, Public Holidays and major feature race days. Those are the only days when I'm tipping best bets and keeping a record of results. Well, basically, I write them in order of preference, but I also divide them into winning chances and place chances.

Take Race 7 at Cranbourne yesterday: CRAN R7 - 3 O'CANARVASS & 5 HELIUM (3,5,8,7 - 1,9)

What this means is that I think numbers 3 & 5 are the best winning chances in the race, numbers 8 & 7 are also winning chances but perhaps more likely to place, and numbers 1 & 9 are really just a place chance.

Now, everybody has different $ amounts that they're comfortable spending, so that's why I never tell people how they should bet on any of the selections. In previous days, my multi tips weren't going very well, because roughies have been getting up for 3rd that I haven't included, and if you had gone with a 2x4xfield trifecta, you would have gone okay. In that Cranbourne race, I was confident about O'Canarvass and Helium, so I ended up going with a 2x6x6 trifecta and a 2x4x6x6 first4.

Okay, it's a slow track now at Warwick Farm and getting worse all the time, so I'll be taking it VERY easy there. (especially after getting a handy little result at Cranbourne :) )

Horses you could think about including now with the wet track are R4-1, R5-2, R6-2,7. Of my top picks, Island Swing and Patience'N'Vision should go okay in the wet, but not entirely sure about the others. :o

I hope perhaps someone got something out of this little tip. Personally, I haven't had a bet on either race 4 or 5. I may possibly have a go in the last race around numbers 1 & 3 but I won't be risking very much at all on that track.

Gday Sportz...

I couldn't find one winner there today... crap fields crap track.. and I don't think Canterbury is much better tomorrow either... Sydney is hard enough this time of year without the tracks turning to bogs... maybe that explains the poor fields there tomorrow

Damn annoying. I worked out the tips on a good-dead track and was quite confident, but then the track quickly got worse and worse and no way was I going to risk much money on it!!! After the last, the caller said that leaders had little or no chance. In the end, the only bet I had there was an any2 in the last race with 1 & 3 from the field. And thanks to Zelotti getting 3rd, I got $41.20 back from $20, so that was okay.

Stupid to leave Mock out of the minor tips. I was very confident that either Forest Spy or Gibernau would win, so I could have put the whole field in for the minor placings.

Amazed at the odds of Candy Vale today!!! If I had known she was going to start at nearly even money, I would definitely have tipped her here and made her a special. But I thought she was only going to be around $1.40 -$1.50.

Warrnambool R7 is a VERY strong race for a Sunday and he's been off the scene for a while, but he has a good each way hope, and he certainly owes me nothing. There are a heap of chances in the race, but I'm probably going to concentrate on four runnners - 2 Blue Collar Jack, 7 Postcode, 6 Myalansky and 12 Czar Of Macedon. 7 & 6 will be the favourites, but 2 & 12 should be okay value. 2,7,6,12 - 4,16,1

If topweights don't do well today, I'm in a bit of trouble. :oThink it looks that kind of day fella. That's why I'm a little nerous about today - because it feels like one of those days where the "standout" could quite easily get rolled..... it's not logical, but it's the ol' "gut feeling".... let's hope I'm wrong for your sake ;)

Yeah, I call days like that "too good to be true" days. You get a number of horses which stand out or look like great bets right from the first time you look at the field. And it NEVER seems to work out that way. So I wouldn't be surprised if my tips bomb out big time.

Hey, Brendan Tupper picked Blake Shinn to ride 6 winners today, and he's just won one of the other 4 where he didn't tip him. :D

Seriously though, if that's the case, then I hope you go well too. I actually had Mr Marju picked out in R5 as well, but I just wasn't quite as confident about it, so left it out of the tips. Same with Hattie at Murwillumbah.

Well, the number 1 that I was least confident about was Incinerator and he missed out. All the others got up, so a good day for the topweights.

It pays to take notice of the unitab ratings. Mister Cav in the last race at Rocky had awful form, yet they had it rated 2nd behind Browns Plains. It duly finished 2nd.

A very ordinary day's racing today and I'm not too keen.

I think perhaps you could look at Ballarat R8 as a good betting race. My ratings have 2 Deign To Dance & 9 Mrs Pike on top. I think they both could be good value today. Was impressed by Deign To Dance last time. The main dangers I think will be 1 & 3. If you concentrate around those 4 horses, hopefully you should be close to the mark.

Ratings:
43.5 - 2 DEIGN TO DANCE
43.0 - 9 MRS PIKE
40.5 - 3 Namibia
39.0 - 1 Wyndham Fortune
39.0 - 6 Aelstreet
38.0 - 4 Nyneleven
37.5 - 5 Octavelent
35.5 - 10 Nouveau

Tips:
BALL R8 - 2 DEIGN TO DANCE ($3.00) & 9 MRS PIKE ($4.00) (dangers 1 & 3)

A few other races I'm looking at, but I think they might not be value:
BALL R2 - 4 JOCK O' THE SIDE ($2.50) (danger 2)
TOWN R3 - 2 PREMIUM DRY ($2.20) (danger 1)
GRAF R6 - 1 ASHBURY ($2.80) (dangers 2 & 3)

Perhaps I should have concentrated on R6 at Ballarat instead. I had them rated this way:

46.0 - 7 Damos Rose
45.0 - 3 Destina
43.0 - 9 Moonlight Bandit
42.5 - 6 Sexy Lady
34.5 - 2 Flying Grange
33.0 - 1 Karikuri

Meanwhile, it's now a slow track at Grafton, so I'm not as confident about my selections in Race 6 there. These changing track conditions are a real pain.

Stix,

No more giving tips just for the sake of giving tips. I've decided to concentrate more on my ratings and importantly, look only for value. I only found 2 races suitable today, races 6 & 8 at Ballarat. I tried to pick out the best of those races, but the ratings went well in both.

FLEM R2: Promising Pompeii Ruler is the top pick here. Was a brilliant run last time and the 1800 looks ideal. I've actually been waiting for Pride Of Westbury since it's last start, but I was expecting it to run in a provincial maiden, not a city race. Even so, I think he could be a good each way chance. If you concentrate around numbers 3, 1, 9 & 4, then perhaps you'll be somewhere around the mark.

Tips:
3 POMPEII RULER ($2.00), 1 Irish Happiness ($5.00), 9 Pride Of Westbury ($5.00)

Ratings:
50.5 - 3 POMPEII RULER
45.0 - 1 IRISH HAPPINESS
44.5 - 9 PRIDE OF WESTBURY
43.0 - 4 Singsdubbs
43.0 - 6 Road To Athens
43.0 - 2 Veedub
42.5 - 5 Barig

FLEM R7: Quite a strong mares race, but I think that there are two obvious chances. Soul Diva's last two wins have been so commanding, that she goes on top. But Belzain is the class mare of the field and is the obvious danger. I think you could concentrate on these two and look mainly at 4, 2 & 9 for the placings.

Tips:
7 SOUL DIVA ($2.80) & 1 BELZAIN ($4.00)

Ratings:
56.5 - 7 SOUL DIVA
52.5 - 1 BELZAIN
48.0 - 4 Iris In The Glen
48.0 - 2 Amaroof
47.5 - 8 Skaters Waltz
47.0 - 9 Xaarbarella
45.0 - 10 Scone

GUNN R7: I have Top Beat, Campeche and Cool As You Can rated very close together. I feel that if you can find some value amongst these 3 horses it could be the way to go. If you work mainly around these 3 and numbers 9 & 7 for the placings, you should go pretty close.

Tips:
3 TOP BEAT ($3.50), 1 Campeche ($4.00), 5 Cool As You Can ($4.50)

Ratings:
41.0 - 3 TOP BEAT
40.5 - 1 CAMPECHE
39.5 - 5 COOL AS YOU CAN
37.0 - 9 Suntegic
36.0 - 7 Ochichi

What a hopeless start!!! :(

I have a feeling that today may be the last day that I ever post tips, ratings and such on this forum.

I'm afraid to say that I simply do not have the right temperament to be a tipster. I just worry FAR too much about losing or more especially other people losing off my tips. I actually get quite stressed about it. And it affects my judgement badly, ruining my confidence (which isn't great anyway) and causing me to pick horses that I personally would never back (Giacometti today), and leave out others that I do (Swinging Bachelor yesterday). Look at today. I've tipped a whole stack of shorties, because I was simply too scared to go looking for value.

So for my own sake and for the sake of anyone who might follow my tips, I think I'll quit while I'm behind.

I think I'll just stick to running a few comps on here. That's a lot more fun and not anywhere near as stressful. :o

Yep i agree with what Mav and Stix have said Sportz. Post your thoughts, everyone else be damned. If they have a problem let them post it with their reasoning. Heck they may make a valid point and save us all, if they have nothing to contribute then stuff 'em.

For what it's worth, i see both yourself and Stix in your respective threads have been worried as to your results of late. I walked away from posting, tipping and punting on these Nags some time ago as i needed a break. I was finding the results at that time too confusing and was struggling myself. I feel slightly vindicated in my decision when i see that i was/am not the only one. Not that i am happy to see you guys struggle with form but perhaps you could take heart in the fact that i don't believe it to be a problem specific to you guys in particular. Sh1t, if i was a 500kg+ beast i'll tell ya the last thing i would want to be doing is running flat chat around some track with some little a-hole on MY back slapping me on the backside in 30 degree weather. I get puffed walking down the shops for a pack of smokes and a couple of stubbies, LOL.

Anyways enough talk, time to fire up for the upcoming Autumn carnival, which i would hope to see yourself and the Stix-ster knee deep in.

Gday Sportz...

I dunno.... I don't think it has too much to do your demeanour, but rather I think that you have set the Bar too high.. And when you don't attain that level you get down on yourself a bit... Lower the bar a bit mate and things may improve for ya

I think that you are one of the better form analaysists/ratings men around the place... that I know of at least. This time of the year (summer) is notoriously hard for finding winners.. Things at >33 seem to find the line with regualrity.. New horses are starting to run around and there is always the next great thing to knock the wind out of your tipping sails.

I am happy with about 28% on top winning at about 3.9... That keeps the head above water.. don't forget you are trying to beat a 20% (approx) takeout from the totes, so shop around... Have an account with as many totes you need to... Especially the one that operates from an aussie territory offshore.. can't reccommend it any higher.. they have a maximum 5% takeout... that makes it so much easier... with decent turnover it drops to abut 2.5%

I think you look for a much higher win % from your selections. but to my way of thinking that isn't really achievable long term, just my opinion... I know favs win about 30 - 33% of the time, but you end up drowning slowly by backing them long term. Your selections I am pretty sure are profitable long term and are usually backed by sound principles.

There are people here who really enjoy your tips ( I"m one of em) And I don't think any of them with half a brain would hold you to account if they fall over from time to time.. ofcourse there are always the narks.. but bu**er em.

Throw those tips out there everyday safe in the knowledge that you are indeed helping someone.. thats the way I think with the ratings I publish.. Last few days have seen a lean run, but I KNOW that long term they will be fine... Your tips are certainly much the same.. they WILL come good.. so keep em up.. Don't be down on yaself....

Has anyone really stopped to analyse why they post tips on this forum?

Is it really a desire to help all those free loaders who contribute nothing or is it really an ego trip.?
In my opinion it is an ego trip and when the tips go bad, the ego is deflated and we bail out.
If the hours spent analysing form resulted in long term profit, why would you post your selections on a forum for free.
For that reason nobody should take anyone's tips seriously but rather see it as no more than a game where posters compete with each other to see who can score the most brownie points and gain acceptance amongst their peers.
When I stopped posting due to a perceived lack of interest or acknowledgement of my efforts, I realised also that I was guilty of not acknowledging the efforts of others as well.
Perhaps some life could be breathed back into this forum if the real experts, the owners, posted some free quality information on a daily basis.

Because I am an old lefty from way back.... and my mum taught me to share...

I don't believe that if you find something that works, you should hide it or not share.. Sorry but I can't agree with the above comment.. it is supposition, apart from where Imagele relates his own experience. Imagele or anyone for that matter have no clue as to the motives of people who post tips, only the poster has the clue... I am not as cynical as Imagele, I believe that there are people that are willing to share.. for no other reson than to genuinely offer assistance.. As has been said often here.. take em or leave em..but don't criticise the bloke/girls who post em for free... or question their motives

The amount of money that would be wagered on mine or Sportz or anyone else's tips would IMO be negligible, and not affect the overall dividend..

If the not share attitude were to prevail elsewhere on the net p2p would die a horrible death.. There is nothing wrong with sharing, be it files or tips, and others should'nt really try to paint them as something they are not, on a hunch... I am only talking from my perspective here ofcourse. I also feel that Sportz and most of the others who post here are genuine. I know I don't and I am reasonably confident that they don't see posting tips as some sort of pi***ng contest. My 2 bobs worth

Imagele is obviously very entitled to post as he sees fit... I also am entitled to disagree and post a rebuttal. I like to look for the positives rather than the negatives.

Now there is a holy grail LOL (for me at least) Last month I managed better than 15% (flat stake best tote) so am ecstatic about that.. especially this time of the year.. that is rating all races even ones full of duds and first starters etc..... I reckon if I stuck to races with more exposed form, I may be able to improve POT another few %.. but I choose to do em all

If you are acheiving those numbers more power to ya... And No I wouldn't change my mind as I think the number of people who use my ratings is minimal and have no effect on price returned.

By the way, I am not successful long term on the punt. That's why I was posting my selections. :)

Just for fun, I'll post my selections against yours for the last 4 races at Geelong.
Race 5. Generals Command- Hurricane Hunter-Endless Odyssey-Light Of Prosperity
Race 6. Drizzle-Deign To Dance-Portline-Our Simba
Race 7. Ballygoran-Gainful- First Cru-Magical River
Race 8. Laogon- Mr Reminiscing-Count Lago-Great Provider.

Perhaps some life could be breathed back into this forum if the real experts, the owners, posted some free quality information on a daily basis.Imagele

Very forthright and challenging views you display.......

You're off the mark with regards to my motives for posting, but you have taken quite a broad brush.... so I don't take your comments to heart.

All the best

Might have just pipped you X in race 7 with the winner first in descending order.

Should have looked at Brendan Tupper's tips. Now, he IS a good tipster. He had Karikuri on top, and simply betting on each of his 3 selections in every single race, you'd be 39% up with a race to go. Betting only on his top picks, you'd be 141% ahead.

All the bestThanks for replying Stix.
I'm sorry I missed your post earlier in the day.
I'm a little surprised that there has not been a bigger response to what was purposely a provocative view.
My opinion was not intended as a personal affront to any individual but rather an attempt to stimulate some interesting discussion.
The forum has become a little benign and dull of late.

Had a good day today though with 3 winners on top in the 1st 3 legs of the Pak. quaddie and 1st and 2nd in the last leg.
Things are going right for a change.

Wound up the day X with 3 winners on top and a 2nd. from 4 picks at MV.
Snagged the Quaddie for $10-00. ($200-00/50c. unit.)
A real red letter day for me.
The wash up for Pak. and M. V.- 6 winners on top and 2 2nds. from 8 picks.

Imagele, the reason i post some tips is because i like to put the pressure on myself. If i am going to post a tip it means i have studied the race generally to it's entirety (is that a word?) and i always have a decent wager on the tips i post here. I find that my; time studying/profit (+ or -), ratio has a strong correlation, but recently lost interest in spending 3 hours a night doing form, that's why my tips (and subsequently my larger bets) have dried up. I've had a freshen up though and am looking forward to the coming months. As for the ego thing it is hard to fault your argument and there is absolutely an aspect of that into why i post some tips here, is that a bad thing? I don't think so as it ensures integrity in the (tip) suggestion.

Good to see there is some life left in this old forum yet, as for losing Sportz and Stix' tips, that is a shame as they generally and genuinely had a lot of credibility behind them.

Thanks for your input Mr Ed.
I appreciate your views and I wish others had responded with their views on this matter.
I think most things we do in life is to do with ego and it's not a bad thing.
Just look at the bragging I've done about my results today.
Look forward to all your posts in the future.

Unfortunately, I'm the exact opposite. The reason I've stopped posting tips is because I didn't like the pressure I was putting on myself. Well, all I can say is that I had a BRILLIANT day on the punt today and I think a fair bit of that is because I wasn't putting that pressure on myself.

If I post tips I dont feel any pressure at all because I don't expect anyone to use them unless after a period of time they decide they are worth while.
I also have the choice to post or not post as I see fit.
I would feel pressure if i was being paid to post.
I think it's all about gaining some acceptance among forumites and the comeraderie that it might bring because I have found by and large that the life of a punter can be a lonely one.
There are plenty of hobby punters about but not many serious or educated ones.
(in my area anyway)
