Hi guys...hopefully a few winners here again..we did well last week so we need to keep it up..cant wait to get back to Doomben...missed the racing there and the fantastic weather..

Race 1.
Alot of horses here evenly rated,,,,,i've settled on the two Wallace runners Duke Sam and Bitabiff ,,both have the good draws and enough barrier speed to take advantage of it....I cant see any value in Mr Sportsman, Mesmorizing and Masai Pride who need all need luck in running,,the big field and likely speed should give them there chance but its alot of ifs anf buts...Duke Sam has got the figures here distance and track ,,and Bitabiff in good form and didnt shirk his task last start both around the double figure odds...another one here at odds Con Con is worth a look..this horse 2 starts ago just jumped out of the ground,,never got into it last start but didnt jump well has a Jockey whos in form that would like nothing more to stick it to some of these Brissie jocks as hes had a few rides here of late and done nothing,,,gets his chance on Con Con tomorrow..
Duke Sam, Bitabiff, Con Con and go very wide in the multis..

Race 2.
Really like Mameluke ,,,looked fantastic last start (granted on the bigger track) but he gets the speed he needs and with the light weight will be flying again late...Motivate interests me here...his runs although frustrating havent been bad at all..the type of horse who finds bad luck all the time,,i think he finds it hard to change gears with weight be he only has 55 here and gets the speed up front he needs in a race he might find easier than he has of late.....
I have these two on top....rampant lion, fiery sunset the next....

Race 3.
I dont like this race much...its giving me a head ache but i've settled on Pirate Queen..this horse is ultra consistent if you foget last start where she just didnt get into to it at all..bred to apreciate alittle longer and the gun jock on board,,,,
prey for peace is the other that rates high,,,takes awhile to balance up so the extra distance will help..

Race 4.
I'm all over Classic Karla ,,,has been very good all this prep , weighted well and is well in this race against this field..Performs well on this track even though the open spaces would suit across the road better,,(26's for the cup ) he is good enough to win here,,,,Bazelle needed the run last start and will be improved and the other danger Bohemian Dancer who also races ok on this track,,,did well last start after having an off day the start before.....
work tri around these 3 and include of course Douro Valley and the kiwi,,,,Classic Karla will win :) go the Brissie horses..

Race 5.
I'll be at the track and if Sir Breaky is jumping out of his skin i'll be on...from the inside hes good enough to take a position and can pounce on the them in the straight,,,stack of speed here and a very good race...
Starlactic with the weight drop and excellent record,,should have won 7 straight,,
you could almost give the whole field a good chance in this,,,i went looking for the horse with the good run...
Shysu should lead and looked excellent in a recent trial,,Sir Breaky just behind on the rails,,,these the two to be backing in this race,,,,should be able to back both as they'll come for a few in this,,,
blink and you'll miss it....

Race 6.
Hard to go past Belmonte,,and beleive me i've triied to find something...the only horse that are maybe a chance
Our Roman Chariot and Vision and Power....i find it interesting to see Master Dennis in this race ..can he run this distance ?? is he showing enough on the training track to make Ab think he can run this ??risky but if your crazy and hate the shorties have something on e/w :)

Race 7.
The big one...with the speed up front i'm looking at St Basil and Show Biz Kid,,,,SBK finally draws a barrier and will just need some room in the straight..to bad about the straddie but hes in good enough form to win this race instead,,,.St Basil will be coming down the outside and go mighty close but he'll need some luck...will have enough good horses back there with him so he could the perfect cart into the race...
Red Oog, SHania Dane , Daunting LAd the dangers...
I'll be playing with tris ect but at the odds SBK looks a nice bet,,,
Interesting to hear that Colless thinks All BAr One can win this...and that he has enough control of him to even take the sit,,hes the master and i'll be keeping him very safe,,,

Race 8.
Single Rose, My Son Day, Nova Star, Mosso, ...these the top four,,,
Not many horses raced very well after that 22nd e/f track and Single Rose was the same..i expect a huge improvement in her that puts her on top here...just has to run near that run to beat these..,,
Nova Star's run at the Gold Coast was incredible,,was a stack of speed on that day so maybe alittle flatering...even still she made an enormous amount of ground up on a day hardly any horses were,,,
Mosso has ability and will keep safe and My Son Day raced well last start,,,this is way harder though...
Single Rose the best bet..

Best Bets.. Mameluke, Duke Sam, Shysu, Belmonte , Single Rose
Best e/w's Show Biz Kid , Classic Karla

Good Luck All :)

Geez what a hard day at doomben many chances i feel in almost every single race there should be plenty of value to be had wherever you go.

Race 1: found this to be a very hard race to sort out really didn't mind Myagi, Lust for Victory, Mr. Sportsman, Chasin Tail & Bitabiff. Any one of those and probably nearly anyother horse in this race could win this so I thought I might go the way of Myagi on paper his runs look fairly good and if ridden quietly he might get the distance and if at decent odds might be worth an e/w ticket, Chasin Tail and Lust for Victory are the 2 others I might be interested in either way not overly confident on the race anyway.

Race 2: Hard race for me to get overly excited in here I didn't mind Rampant Lion a bit and may have a little on it but certainly won't go to far overboard that is for sure.

Race 3: I am actually with Mav here on Pirate Queen once again not with a great deal of confidence but if the right odds present themselves then I will be more than happy to have a bit of a go here I also thought that Riley Road might be a bit of a chance to.

Race 4: Douro Valley is a horse I have had sometime for for a while now and in the form he is in now he is certainly upto winning this race, hardest to beat I felt were Bohemian Dancer, Pentathon and to a lesser extent Bazelle who I feel might not quite be ready to produce it's best. Mav I wish you the best on Classic Karla that horse has driven me nuts and I wonder if it is going aswell as it has in the past. All in all Douro Valley should go very close to winning this and I doubt the odds will be that much over the $5 mark if they are hard to tell with out of towners sometimes they are liked other times noone wants anything to do with them.

Race 5: Really like Starlactic here and am struggling to work out what sort of odds might be on offer for this horse tomorrow either way aslong as it isn't backed to death I will be having something on it. Tornado Alley and Sir Breakfast were 2 others i liked with maybe Becks if it has any value for multiples.

Race 6: not a big fan of the race I am a huge fan of Master Denis and maybe the wide run 1st up took a bit out of him last week I just wonder like Mav whether this might be a bit early for this trip will probably half a bit e/w on him anyway. Our Roman Chariot I think is the horse to challenge Belmonte had some nice runs behind the very smart Wahid in NZ and I think if he can reproduce that sort of form he is probably right in this. Born to Rule was the other I thought could run a nuisance of a race especially from it's barrier should get a nice run just behind the speed. I will have something e/w on Master Denis and make a decision on anything else tomorrow.

Race 7: I have been on Show Biz Kid's bandwagon for quite awhile now and it is a crying shame he will not make the Straddie field which would have been far more suitable QLD racing needs to have a serious look at themselves there. This maynot have been the most suitable race for him but here is something to remember he was beaten about a length last year from barrier 4 running 4th IMO this horse is a far superior horse than he was then and if I am right he will win tomorrow, Another thing I might add Blinkers go on this is his Grand Final guys.

There are plenty of dangers in the field to many to name here Red Oog is a chance everytime he steps out as is St. Basil, Classiconi scares the living crap out of me and Nevis is as much chance as most of them but I am confident that if Show Biz Kid can get the right run he is in this upto his eyeballs and will take a stack of beating not to mention I have had the biggest bet on him I have had all year long.

Race 8: Single Rose has to be extremely hard to beat here she has all the right form lines and isn't that badly off at the weights she will take a stack of beating. Nova Star is a very talented horse who it wouldn't surprise me went very close to winning this not sure if she might get to far back in this hard to say what the tactics will be really. I thought there was a horse dosn the bottom of the weights who could sneak a place Disintegrate got some nice wins under it's belt even though it was clsses below this might not be ready to take the next step but it wouldn't surprise me if it runs a bit of a race.

G'day Mav,

Great days racing tomorrow at Doomben...the fields are pretty big but they're mostly quality and the weather has stayed fine. It seems that we agree on a few too, which is always good for the confidence :).

Race 1 - The barrier draw has completely ruined this race. Mr Sportsman, Mesmerising and Masai Pride the best 3 horses in the field for mine and they all draw the carpark. Brilliant. I'm going to stick with Mesmerising. She needed the run first up, peaking on her run in the straight after having a nice run in transit. I think if Cahill can find a reasonable spot during the race, the speed is good enough to see her right there at the death. Masai Pride has tons of ability, not sure about the drop in distance though and of course his nasty habit of missing the kick. He's a top chance if Byrne jags him back onto the fence and hooks him out in the straight though. Duke Sam has always had ability and the draw has seen him come right into this race. The couple of runs back from the spell and the claim for Morris really help too. Good one to start on i think, theres value around.

Race 2 - Like Mameluke, same as Mav. Top horse in and around this trip. McMahon rode him last time for the win and i think he can do it again. These ones aren't much chop and he has plenty of upside. Somehow i don't think the $9 quote in the paper will hold up, but anywhere near $5-6 is good value. Tellem probably struggles at 1600 but around Doomben i think his 'class' will get him a long way. Katsidis will probably press forward and hope nothing takes him on. Not a bad chance at the odds. The 3 alley is a welcome change too. Fiery Sunset doesn't know how to win, but certainly knows how to place and can do it again tomorrow from the good alley. Won't be too far off them in the run either, which might be an advantage in this race.

Race 3 - I think i'm losing my mind, just quietly. I like 2 here which are, on fixed odds, 100-1 and 30-1 respectively. Twostonelighter i think can improve significantly on his first up run. Well bred and has King on board. Also, in my experience Ross doesn't bring em to these sort of races unless they have some sort of ability. I'm willing to take the risk at the big odds. Fiveoclockshadow is another at odds i think isn't hopeless. Will derive a huge amount of benefit from the first up run and has blinkers applied tomorrow which should sharpen him up. Pirate Queen can improve too. She has plenty of ability as we saw in her first campaign and will be running on tomorrow. I just can't come into the fav here, Lasoron. The time wasn't great last time and the 16 alley is a nightmare.

Race 4 - Hate the race, so i've gone for Cold Start. I think its about the right time for him to click into gear and lead them a merry dance. This is his trip and Mason is on board. He's had the 3 runs back from a spell for fitness, so i think he can give a good sight. you'll know 20m into the race whether hes a chance too - if he ain't in front, he won't be winning :D. Maybe Douro Valley and Classic Karla for the placings who might be able to run home at the death if the speed is on. Not a betting race for mine.

Race 5 - This is top quality. You could make a convincing case for 10 of these. I've settled on Starlactic. I love this horse. Hes got multiple gears. He can lead and kick again in the straight, he can sit off them and sprint in the straight. Hell, he could probably sit back last and be a show. I know this is his biggest test to date, but with the likely speed i see him sitting about 5th or 6th 4 lengths off and sprinting over the top with the feather weight. Really promising galloper. Any Suggestion will be infront i suspect and will take plenty of catching. Hes a Doomben horse, through and through. He can get such a kick off the corner and runs sensational times. They'll have to be right on their game to beat him. Sir Brekky trialled well the other day apparently, but i can't have him. He just doesn't win enough to justify my backing him. Hes a good old horse though and can bob up for a place.

Race 6 - I'm not sure about the Derby this year, can't see much quality. This is the lead up and i can't get excited about any of them. I've settled on Belamonte but i've got no confidence. His win was totally dominant last time. Gave nothing else a chance. The 2000m is a query for mine (don't know if the singspiel's stay?) but the win over 1600m last time was too good to ignore. Too short to back though. Beauty Watch is no doubt at the distance and has drawn well. Beasley will ensure she gets a great run and won't be far off at the end. Going for the Oaks and won't be far off there either, i would suggest. One at odds thats worth watching is Greenfinder. Trainer knows what hes doing and the time at the Coast last time was pretty good. Is capable of running well here with some speed on.

Race 7 - The big one. Tough race. If Daunting Lad had drawn inside 4 i'd have made him a special. I still think hes good enough to win, but he'll need lots of luck. I just love the way hes been attacking the line lately. Got beaten by a freakish rails run last time (which wouldn't have opened up 9 times out of 10). If Pattillo gets him in, i think hes a huge chance. At the 26s, hes well worth a nibble. Don't discount All Bar One. He'll lead this field and if Colless can hold him up until the 300m he might be able to pinch it. Shouldn't have to do as much work over the slightly longer journey to reach the lead either. Like him at eachway odds too. The query runner is Nevis and with all the speed on up front, she might just be able to sprint all over them at the death. Plenty of talent there and David Payne is a top trainer.

Race 8 - Single Rose is a top chance if she isn't too jaded from the last run. Don't know what Nikolic was doing, but back to her own age here i think she can go close. The alley helps no end. My Son Day has loads of potential and the jockey change is great. Though i'm not a wrap for Seamer, hes at least a senior rider. Nova Star sucks you in and then spits you out more times than not, but she has obvious talent and can run on tomorrow with all the speed that will be on. I wouldn't leave her out of any multiples. Good race to finish on that, with some really nice gallopers going around.

Great days racing overall with my best being Mameluke, Starlactic and Single Rose with good rough chances to Daunting Lad and Twostonelighter.

Good luck everyone

Hi guys,

Geez, what a day , surely gonna be very difficult to come away with

Anything in the black.

r3, My mail is Tantra will improve greatly, But lets face it..... doesnt have To do All that much does it ! Still if the odds blow i will get on board.

Sven, Twostonelighter, well bred looking for this distance not out of this one.
(SR king nice)

r4 Well i like Mr Splinters, and if your a fan, Pentathon comes into this very

Nicely indeed, All he has to do is settle & cope with the way of going and

Will be in the finish. Coelesce to run an improved race.

r7 Star shiraz to run a big race back home.

r8 I thought Single Rose was the best of the day.

Good Luck Everyone

I didn't mind Greenfinder myself either Sven, I wouldn't be to worried about the Singspiel side of things for Belmonte most of them are very versatile and have enough stamina to stay a bit from what I have seen shame that horse isn't coming back over here one hell of a sire.

Svenvlad
27th May 2006, 08:47 AM
Mesmerising has been scratched from the first so i'll replace her with Bitabiff who has drawn well and won't be far off them in the run. I really like Masai Pride now though, think he can go really close.

It's not looking good on the Single Rose front, we've all tipped her :)...don't like the chances of getting a price...but i spose we should try and get her home first :D

Dazz, i notice that Tantra is much shorter in early markets than i would have thought she'd be. That prolly means that someone thinks she'll improve heaps today. I wouldnt be surprised if she ran a big one.

Cheers all, and good luck

Unbelievable result there in the 10,000 and I must admitt I looked for a reason to back Undue as it put in some good runs in Melbourne just didn't like it's last effort one thing is for certain Show Biz Kid lost me for good today no reason for a very ordinary performance.

Summary
Race 1.
Backed Con Con and Duke Sam and was feeling pretty good halfway down the straight...dont know how Masi Pride did it,,fantastic run....but left me with 2nd and 3rd and nothing ...

Race 2.
Well Mameluke stayed in the gates and that was it,,made up good ground and will keep... thought Rampant lion was again very strong....0 for 2 and struggling..

Race 3.
Fantastic run by Fiveoclockshadow ,,,great pick Sven ..i had alittle e/w on pirate queen and did nothing...just didnt like this race as i knew there was to much scale for improvement in a number of these runners..
0 for 3

Race 4.
How do u follow Coalesc..runs some shockers but at times looks a million bucks...Classic Karla my tip put in a huge Brissie Cup trial..was never closer than 3 or 4 wide the whole way with no cover..to finish where he did was huge...i think hes still on track for the big one..
0 for 4

Race 5.
Starlactic was fantastic...Sir breaky very good first up and Shysu ran very well considering he wastn leading..,,backed Sir Breaky here for the win but got a piece of the 1st4 so atleast something to get me going in the right direction.
1 for 5

Race 6.
Belmonte always looked to good,,but what about Master Denis,,huge run and i was cheering my head off down the striaght,,still a nice place divie, tri ,exacta and 1st4 result...very happy here....belmonte is impressive..runs straight and gains another 2 lengths..
2 for 6

Race 7.
Ouch..SBK had no excuses..copped a couple of bumps but still should have run beter...St Basil was excellent and those 17's for the straddie is looking very very nice..
I underestimated Undue...i wrote him off last start as he had the coat and was alittle chubby,,,looked good today after that run and he still looks like he'll improve for his target race the straddie...,,,
what a result.....only positive i'm taking out of this race is St Basil...go the old boy.
2 for 7

Race 8.
To much weight on Single Rose today..we were all on her...she had no chance ..Mosso again just missed out...backed this horse for 2 seconds already so i'm atleast glad it wasnt 3 for me...
2 for 8 :(

Not a great day in brissie for me today...i was quietly confident to...especially the first 2 races and Classic Karla..oh well
Races 5 and 6 were both nice results but a loss for me..
Well Done Sven today...Masia Pride, Fiveoclockshadow, Starlactic ,Belmonte ,,,50% on a hard day..hats off old chap ..

Sydney
Forestreno,,,saddle slipped,,forget he ran..
Silkn Money...WOOHHOOOO nothing to much to cheer about today and really needed this ..soooo close to the 1st4 ,,tri was nice though...

Newcastle
Knot Now,,,again has me in with a good closing 4th...,,next time..

Gold Coast
Mitani....to good,,,,my best rater of the day....just to short to back,,,Beamer was eyecatching..

Toowoomba
Rear Admiral,,,,just got to far back..copped heaps of checks,,,hit the line nicely..
Socialist,,,,YES FINALLYYYYYYY WOOOHHOOOOOOOOOO finally wins a race for me..the horse has a stack of talent and when i need him the most he gets up for me...what a champ..nice result for me with the tri aswell...

13 bets today ,,with 2 winners and 2 other positive races...hard day but SilknMoney gets me out of trouble..that 100/1 shot that finished 4th killed my 1st4 which would have been very very nice,,had 5th , and 6th but thats always typical..
Socialist not only got me out of the poor house but half the drunks at the Hamilton aswell,,surprised it paid $5,,,they all think i'm a champion even after giving them shockers for most of the day...goes to prove your only as good as your last tip :) they'll just drink it up anyway but atleast they'll have some cab fare home..

ps Sovereign Miss will keep for a good track..but still ran a great race on the slow in the wrong part of the track again today...they should send her up here Luv2 ..

Great day at Doomben...perfect weather...no place like home :)

Hope you guys had a good one...Well done again Sven..your shout at the bar.

G'day Mav,

First of all, cheers. I had a good day tipping wise, just a shame i wasn't betting :D. Oh well, thems the breaks.

Masai Pride was an enormous run under the circumstances, though the time wasn't anything special. The ran roughly 8-9 lengths slower than the 10000 so its a concern...but you gotta be impressed with how he handled missing the start. Better things in store i think.

Not much to note in the 2nd, great ride from Rodd on the winner. Mameluke next time at EF over the same distance will be winning.

Great win by Fiveoclockshadow. I thought there'd be good improvement in this bloke. Got a lot of time for this trainer, doesn't appear to have many horses but gets some nice wins (Son of Dane, Funlove and now this bloke). Impossible to miss lasoron though, horse of the future. If he presses onto the sires and Tj he'll run well.

Ordinary bunch in the 4th. No champs and the Brissy Cup winner wasn't in this field, but good luck to em.

Starlactic is a top, top top horse. I can't say enough good things about him. He's just so genuine and tough. Thought he'd be a little vulnerable today with the awkward alley and the jump in class, but he brained them. Onwards and upwords though i think the days of getting 4s about him in races are gone :D.

Belmonte was great and Master Denis was super. Master Denis will derive so much from that run its not funny. Great Derby chance for mine. take nothing away from the winner though, had em covered on the line no worries. Singspiels are going great guns.

10,000 a total blowout and the form will be dodgey. Noticed La Montagna got to the line OK altho beaten a fair way. She'll be better suited under the Straddy conditions. Daunting Lad was deep and that ruined him. If he draws an alley in the Straddy hes a nice chance.

Nice win by Vocalic in the last too, Easy Rockings are going well. He had a big wrap on him early on this bloke, but has obviously just needed time to mature. Single Rose ran OK but as Mav said, wasn't going to win with all of us onboard :D. My Son Day becoming costly in these races, though i'd prefer a better jockey next time.

Good days racing today, can't wait for Eagle Farm next week!

Cheers,

Sven

Well bad result for me yesterday blew my ass on Show Biz Kid and for the last time I must say he is quickly heading to the never back again book.

Race 1: Whilst Myagi didn't run anywhere I thought it's run was credible was 3 wide most of the way with cover and thought it hit the line nicely still certainly a chance in town on that effort I didn't actually back the horse but was happy enough with what I saw out of it.

Race 2: Had a bit of a go at Mameluke after the confidence Sven and Mav had and it did hit the line nicely just to far back had a very small win bet on Rampant Lion and thought it was a solid run if not spectacular. Bad loss here.

Race 3: Stayed out of this one the more I looked at the race the harder it got should have listened to Sven here could have picked something up on a dreadful day.

Race 4: Had a bit of a go at Duoro Valley here and the run was ok but certainly not overly inspiring infact as a whole i think I would struggle to pay the feed bill for most pf those horses in that race. Loss again

Race 5: Had a good win here on Starlactic just a shame the rest of QLD was on her aswell pretty good odds really and I agree will be the last time we see it go out at those odds again. Nice win

Race 6: Ended up just sticking with Master Denis here and thought his was a fantastic run used up a bit early on to go to the lead but Colless rode him a treat really if he goes on as much as I think he can from there I am with Mav there is your Derby horse, Belmonte is a great horse but he does alot wrong it is going to cost him eventually. small e/w pickup.

Race 7: Well what can I say it is races like these that make me want to stop punting you think you have it worked out and something like that happens, Had a big go at Show Biz Kid and had a triffecta, Quinella and 1st 4 on the race only to watch it all go up in smoke. St. Basil was a great run but I have come to expect nothing else from that horse just a fantastic horse thought that Miss Potential may have put in a nice trial for the Straddie although I amnot sure she could win that leading maybe off the pace like yesterday might give her a bit more chance, Star Shiraz is another I would keep an eye on from a Straddie point of view. Very bad loss.

Race 8: I balked at Single Rose in the end and I am glad i did still backed her but didn't even have a quarter of what I was going to have on her. Small Loss

I had a few nice pickups in other places unfortunately I didn't have the time to post my other states tip on here. Got a nice result in Sydney with Agua Corriendo who I back most times it comes to town usually because it always puts in a nice run at very big odds yesterday was no different in fact I would go as far as saying if they had a senior rider on it wins the race and really would have bailed me out for the day.

Just one of them days I guess ohwell time to sit back andwait for next week I guess.

By the way congrats Sven excellent effort there mate.

I wont be righting him off just yet...i still like him better at Eagle Farm or the Sunshine Coast where he has more room...i just got excited yesterday as i'm not used to him drawing a barrier...i dont think he apprecited Danny niggling him along most of the way either...
must of been hard training him this prep..target would have been the Straddie so he wouldnt have been peaking...just not sure the change in programing is good or not yet...i've heard a few trainers very critical of it..
Dont right him off yet Raw...to good a horse for that..

Good thread guys. I noticed Fiveoclockshadow was scratched from a 7k 1300 Maiden at the GoldCoast on Saturday to race in the 100k 2yo Doomben Slipper. A genuine nomination?
Of the others, Lasoron won her races at the Coast but on yesterday's run looks an Eagle Farm horse.

Anchor,

Not sure what the wisdom of nominating a horse for a 7k maiden and a 100k listed race is...connections obviously knew the bloke had ability...but i guess its just a fallback option if they saw something they didnt like in the acceptances in the 100k race? *Shrugs*

As for Lasoran, i totally agree that he looks an EF horse. He looked so good winning at the coast because he was running past slow ones. Put good horses in those races, and he won't appear to run as well. Also, run that race yesterday (the slipper) at the Coast and he wouldn't have finished as close. Its all a matter of judging what the class of opposition is. Mind you, i don't think the field yesterday was top notch, they were just better than a maiden at the gold coast.

As for Show Biz Kid, he is just a money-muncher. I've seen horses like him all too many times - they win far too infrequently to make a go of it. Plus, you'll lose your hair following them :D. But, to each his own.

Frustrated I guess Mav there is no way this horse should have been missing the Straddie and he has no chance of making the field the weights are just ridiculos. I may back the horse again but there won't b much going behind it again and it certainly will never happen with Nickolic on his back, He was the only reason why I had any reservations on Saturday I have never been a fan of Danny far to inconsistent in my opinion.
