There appears to be too much seriousness in the forum at the moment, particularly in another well-frequented thread!
Accordingly, I intend to start this thread with a view to "easing the pressure valve."
Although I, personally do not subscribe to the wagering on horses by way of "omens," however, I know of many punters whose superstitions, "hunches," birthdates etc determine which runner they may wager on.
After monitoring the "kerfuffle" unfolding in another excellent thread I thought that some contributors may be able to rediscover the "fun" side of wagering by offering their thoughts/hunches(ie. when they detect a promising omen bet).
Today, for example, I have detected a possible qualifier:
2: BendigoR4, 16 Up To The Knocker
currently paying $39.70w$11.20plNSW....it's form is not as bad you may initially think, so is it worth a try.......? In my form study I marked this one as one to include in my exotics.
Looking forward to similar contributions.
Cheers.

No, it ran about midfield but there is still hope in the longrun!
This method is obviously for the "fun" punter who backs numbers, birthdates or a plethora of other factors and I am certain it will yield the occasional long-priced winner/placegetter, which, hopefully, will give us some fun as well as a profit in the longterm.
That's the point of this thread.........to see if the apparently illogical approach(ie. omens/superstitions) can prove to be profitable!
Let's share our thoughts/hunches and see how it unfolds.
Come on, give it a go!
Cheers.

Yeah,
We'll see how it goes!
Well done...!
Any other contributors out there...?
This thread also offers the opportunity for the harmless(or riske) innuendo to be exploited.....as long as it is without malice!
Looking forward to well-intentioned contributions.
Cheers.

While doing my form study for today's programs I thought that I had identified a classic omen bet in BR6 9 Miss Hawkins. The front page of today's Daily Telegraph featured a story about former Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins but unfortunately her namesake has been scratched.
Anyone else identify possible qualifiers?
Remember, the investment strategy for this plan is 1 unit win x 5place units.
Cheers.

Yeah, I got one. Mate of mine's missus had a baby son a couple of weeks ago, and I asked him what sort of kid was he, crier, whinger, quiet etc and his exact words were he's a delightful lad.
Funnily enough, race 2 no 1 Mussellbrook today, he's a runner.

We sure have been unlucky so far!
HORSEWHISPERER-that "short"-priced runner just did not finish on so maybe you can find a "long"-priced runner to get us in front?
mad-yeah, I saw that....pertinent omen isn't it?
CP-we will watch with interest.
Mulhallo-I thought that we may have that race but it didn't finish the way we wanted.
The levity displayed by our contributors so far is appreciated but I am sure there is some character/rascal out there just waiting to share their sense of humour with the rest of us.
However, we still haven't scored that elusive winner/placegetter yet but all we need is a good priced qualifier to get up for us.
Well done-keep 'em coming!
Cheers.

Conrats mv2040!
Our first winner($1.7w$1.2plNSW) but what time did they jump?
Advertised start time was 1:37p.m.EST and you posted at 1:49p.m.EST.
I am not watching Sky so was the race late? Otherwise, you have found the perfect system.....cannot possibly lose!
Apologies if I am unsure about post time.

What a fitting tribute to "Peter Perfect!"
Racing To Win annihilated the opposition and how far can he go this Spring?
Paid: $2.3w $1.2plNSW but it is not the price that matters, it is the manner in which this topliner won! He's had 11 starts for 7 wins and 4 placings, amassing >$2.1M in prizemoney.
In post-race commentary words such as "awesome, devastating" were used to describe Racing To Win's performance. Weren't these very same words used to describe some of P Brock's performances?
Racing to Win is primed to rewrite the record books this Spring.
Anyone have an opinion whether this mighty horse should go overseas and take on the best they have to offer? I, personally would like him to remain in Australia and give the racing public many more thrills and earn a great deal of prizemoney which appears to be a formality.
Looking forward to your thoughts/opinions.
Cheers.

It definitely has bright prospects on form and class. Accordingly, if it wins or runs well then give some consideration to a horse which ran second to it last start:

it ran second to Sexy Lady last start beaten by 1 length and is extremely well-placed today.

I have been having trouble finding that elusive omen tip today but I have come up with a possibility:
SR8 7 Chess Record racing in the Queen's Cup.....get it?.....think queen, bishop, rook etc in the game of chess. Maybe "pushing the envelope" a bit on this one but with the Waterhouse stable "on-fire" so far today anything is possible.
What about those swannies supporters - no omens?....although, I noticed that there are several red and white(and blue and yellow) racing silks combinations being worn today.
We'll see how things unfold.

First of all I acknowledge that I cannot claim it as a winner but I was on the winner of:
BR8 2 Upilio Sat 30.12.06,
the reason being that I watched a documentary on Discovery channel during the week: "Deadliest Catch" which highlighted the hardship of hunting this lucrative prey(ie. the upilio crab) in the foreboding waters of the Baring Straits between Alaska and Siberia.
It duly won and paid:$2.9w $1.5plNSW thereby producing another profitable return(sorry, I wasn't online at the time....enjoying too much xmas joy).
Remember, there are plenty of other possibilities out there:
eg 30.12.06 MR1 4 Jackman
" MR3 8 The Wolverine
as we know, Hugh Jackman starred in the hit movie "Wolverine."
Both were scratched so maybe the alert omen punter should watch for their next appearance....it could prove to be profitable!

He has one other ride later:
MR6 5 Benedetti....what are the odds?
I had a little on Laura's Charm as it was well fancied on my own form calculations but.....Benedetti?....you'll have to make your own mind up there.

SR1 1:15p.m.EST:
No2 Come On Cugat, trained by Chris Waller who has had wretched luck recently by losing one of his topliners. All the omens are there for a change of luck in this race and the fact that a rider by the name of D. Beadman has been engaged for the ride only increases our confidence.
In today's press the question has been raised: Is Beadman As Good As G. Moore- I asked this very question a couple of years ago here on the forum -the jury is still out.
All we want is for this bloke named Beadman to get us our first winner for the day.
Good luck.
xanadu
26th January 2007, 01:21 PM
Well, even the best can't always get them home!
After an "iffy" start, Come On Cugat never appeared comfortable and was not able to haul in the eventual winner, No.1 Defour.
Investing in the ratio of 1x5 recoups most of our stake money and we now move on to other opportunities.
NB. Don't overlook the fact that C. Waller has another runner in SR2: 3 Miss Nikki(remember, invest in the ratio of 1x5).

I watch parliament on TV for it's theatrics and it does provide some entertainment value. Sometimes it also provides an opportunity for we punters to make a profit by identifying omen tips.
A case in point is during yesterday's telecast from the House Of Reps, the Opposition leader came under intense fire from the Govt regarding his ill-judged meetings with a Labour pariah. One of these meetings took place at a restaurant named "Peruginos."
During my form study I detected the following runners tomorrow by the sire "Perugino":

We've struck a bit of a "black hole" recently with some close finishes but no luck!
There must be some creative and innovative forumites out there who have a hunch or recognize an omen, whether at the dogs, harness or gallops.
I encourage you to contribute, notwithstanding how silly or unrelated it may seem to you.....this is where the 20/1, 33/1, 50/1 winners and placegetters come from!
Come on give it a go....especially you Stix!

At Rosehill they just had a function for the connections of the terrific Saintly which was presented to the crowd.
Accordingly, J.B. Cummings has the favourite in the next Sydney race:
SR2 1 Prince Arthur...which races in the same colours that Saintly carried.
Well...the only similarity between Saintly and Prince Arthur is that they carried the same colours!
It ran terribly and disappointed many people.

His father was/is the Prince Of Wales and I presume that one day he will also inherit this position -therefore our wager will be upon:

NB. last night's story had a nautical theme and today, Newcastle is virtually underwater with this continuing deluge...so there is an omen there too.

I agree but this was always meant to be an irreverent thread whereby small punters may "fluke" a decent div/result.
As you can see from earlier threads it proved very successful but has petered-out somewhat recently.
However, hang in there as a 'big" result may just be around the corner!

I'm not claiming it but I did notice a likely prospect last Saturday:
SR3 3 Ledger WON $3.9w$1.8plNSW
Due to time constraints I couldn't post on the forum. The connection was that towards the end of last week the daily news services advised that actor, Heath Ledger, had been posthumously nominated for a Golden Globe award for his portrayal of the manic "Joker" in the latest Batman movie.

It is "drawing a very long bow" but some people should consider:
Parkes: SH4 Red Hare*(8:10p.m.A.E.D.T.).
*With the "Elvis" festival gaining momentum in Parkes, NSW, (see ABCTV tonight 8:00p.m. A.E.D.T. and the festival on 6.1.09, it is an appropriate "omen," considering the "King"(Elvis) did indeed have red hair until he experienced success and Col. Parker changed his image and insisted that he dye his his hair black and grow "side-burns." Elvis later confided that he envied the way that "truckers" grew their "side-burns" and grew his own to copy them.
It is a longshot but see how things unfold.
