i am trialing a place selection method which is showing a bit of potential, although the div's are usually on the short side - an example of the last 2 days dividend returns are -

1.40
1.60
1.50
0.00
1.10
1.40
0.00
1.50
0.00
1.30
1.40
1.30
1.90

also i dont bet if i cant get $1.30 or greater, & the above are unitab divs & i have been betting both unitab & betfair where i can usually, not always, get a better div.

so with the above returning abt 11%, what i am wondering is if anyone has any ideas to safely? increase the pot. i am considering stopping when a daily target is reached.

I have looked at the list of results but do not know the possible returns of the unplaced races. One method of increasing the total returns is to use all up betting with two or three all ups. I find this to be the most profitable method.

todays results -

$2.8
$1.4
$1.7
$0
$1.6
$1.7
$0
$1.4
$0
$1.4
$2.1

the ocassional $2+ result providing the juice, maybe best to leave it alone & go level stakes, anyone?

Hi Stugots,
Your SR looks good so far.
I feel it is best to try & only bet where a runner is paying a min of $1.40+
This is the min price range I feel one has to try & target ,otherwise it is too hard to recoup losses.

I find with place betting ,just like win betting , one has to be prepared for what their stratergy is going to be ,if one strikes one of those days where nothing is going our way , no matter how good the plan has prooven itself in the past.

Those type of days can wipe out all profits from the past & possibly one whole bank , so be prepared.

With place betting its an idea to target races with 12 runners & less, any more & the exposure to risk increases dramaticly.
Have a look at races with 14+ runners with a prooven selection plan to test the point.

CRUSHER STAKING PLAN
Only increase bet after a place getter is struck.
Once we are in profit, start again.
e.g.
1p,2L,2L,2L,2p,3L,3p,4p,5p,6p,7 ect
Bank needed $330

This is probably one of the better place staking plans to use on the right sort of place selections.
It has the ability to turn a small level stake loss, into a profit.
On needs a SR of approx 55% & an average div of approx $1.40 to make it work effeciently.

Other plans that only increase after a loss are reeked with havoc after a horror run & need massive banks to sustain them , so I feel its best not to go there.

Keep in mind ,that it takes patience to recover from a bad run to recoup all losses when place betting because the divs one is working with..
With the above staking plan it has shown that it can recover if one can stick at it . That's where the discipline thing comes into it.

Out of interest ,can you say what your selection criterior is?

Cheers.

One thing i do is this with place bets, works a treat.

1 unit place,.....loss
3 unit place,.....loss
9 unit place,.....1.6

now,

out is 13,
in is 14.5

so,

take the 13 units and put it back in the pocket, now with the profit bet all up race to race, that way if you win a few in a row, you would be surprised.

i have done this heaps of times and managed 8 place bets in a row often, if your average div is 1.5,...

10 x 1.5 (5 up)

take out 10.(now nothing to loose !)
5 x 1.5=7.5
7.5 x 1.5=11
11 x 1.5=16
16 x 1.5=24
24 x 1.5= 36
36 x 1.5=54
54 x 1.5=81
81 x 1.5=121
now thats 9 in a row, if you decide to start with a larger start bank, the profits are greater,......got to get the place "winners" but.

sometimes as you state you will get a 2 divie, this is when it works a treat.
Often ill take say 50 units out and all up the rest, that way if you loose, your still up 50 !

Cheers Ding

thanks for the replies, will have a closer look at both your plans bhagwan & dingoboy over the next couple weeks,

bhagwan as to the selection method, it is a fairly simple formula which uses 1/2 dozen form/race elements as well as the horses price as close to jump as possible, & as such usually throws up the 1st/2nd/3rd fav but snags value at times with the largest unotab div to date of $3.10 (got $4.00 on betfair).

the only drawback is that i need to bet as close to the jump as possible so must be chained to my pc most afternoons.

also i am running live trials on unitab & betfair & its interesting to note that so far betfair out returns unitab by a minimum of 5%, often more (i was very wary of the whole betfair concept but so far am quite impressed)

If you have a healthy strike rate for the place..... apply 25% of your winnings to your next bet, continue until you have a no result and start again.... I use it for my WA wagering where my place strike rate is 78% (longest run of outs is 3, longest run of wins is 14)

thanks stix, ive got a good strike rate but to date longest winning run is 5, i have been more likely to see w,w,l,w,l,w,w,l,l,w,w,l,w,w,w,l & so on, regular outs followed by a couple of placegetters is the trend.

bhagwan's crusher is showing some promise from limited testing

only could squeeze in a few races today -

unitab
$-
$1.4
$1.7

betfair
$-
$1.5
$2.1

Stix,

Is what you are doing as follows: First bet (say) $10, win at $1.40, therefore next bet $11 (quarter of winnings plus original stake)? Or is it a quarter of the return all up?

Stugots,

Remember there is a 5% deduction from your Betfair winnings which means it and Unitab are much the same.

Good luck.

have to disagree merriguy, as my experience to date is that the majority of the time i can obtain a minimum of 5% better div (usually much more), not winnings, yesterday's not a bad example -

uni $1.40, bf $1.50 - net win uni $0.40 - net win bf $0.47
uni $1.70, bf $2.10 - net win uni $0.70 - net win bf $1.05

so $1.10 against $1.52, & this type of result has been fairly typical, & as there's plenty out there that want to lay you at the moment, competition for a bettors dollar appears strong in the larger markets.

will it last? or will increased usage of betfair by aussie punters bring the markets closer into line with the tabs? i spose the pommy experience may be able to give us an idea, anyone?
