I have been using a base figure of 50 for my ratings. Then adding and subtacting points to arrive at a final figure and then pricing the main chances and betting only the value runners.
Any thoughts.

Bit hard to offer any suggestions without knowing how many points you're adding and taking away, and for what reason.
Agree that the value runner is the way to go though.

A base figure of 50 for all your ratings regardless of race class?

Sound like your on the right path to me. After a bit of experience you'll do some fine tuning. Just back the best value of your main chances and you'll do a lot better than anyone who backs what they think will win, regardless of price. We are wrong often enough for the best valued chance to get up as often as what we think might win among our best chances. Your banging away at value, not winners. That's the Gold!
