Putting my head on the chopping block here.
I'm looking for some honest opinions and suggestions from the forum about this method ive been using lately,i'd particlary like to hear from those with their own ratings method about what they would do with these figures and what would be the best way to capatalise on the information but all opinions are welcome.

Add 1 to the number of your selections in each race (3 + 1 = 4) and use $4.00 as your MINIMUM acceptable price with no MAXIMUM price. ( Dont have any cutoff point.)
Cheers.

Thanks Darky i'll take the idea on board, would prefer to convert the ratings to odds and look for the overs though.

The forum curse struck again, ill think twice about posting selctions on here again lol.
It seemed every second top raters was either 1st or 2nd up which probably didnt help,i was happy to bet on them though, ive had some good results recently with first uppers.
It wasnt all bad though, some of the positves were,
(BR,SR,MR,AR,PR)
* The clear top raters in races with 10 or plus starters placed 6 out of 11 times for an $11.30 return.
* The 2nd top rater won 9 of the 40 races and returned $49.50 for a nice little profit.
* Boxing the top 3 in quinellas resulted in 11 out of 40 wins and returned $161.10 for a $41.10 profit.
(All uni tab covered meetings)
* The top rater won 18.66% of all races yesterday,14 out of the 75 which is only 3 wins away from what i expect.
* The 6 highest raters won 81.33% of the 75 races aswell as providing some very nice quinella and trifecta results,a couple of $40 plus winners for the 5th and 6th raters with the top 6 trifectas out of those races were amongst the highlights.

Top class horses get beaten by inferior horses all the time for very good reasons other than lack of ability or luck in the running on the day.
No point backing any horse unless it is ready to win. In other words the conditions suits the horse and is the optimum period[s] of it's campaign: Could be a 1st up or 2nd up winner or a 4th to 8th up winner, the distance must suit as there are often some class stayers prepping in sprints for longer races etc. and a heap of other condition details to look at.
The old saying 'you can't lose by backing class' is absolute myth. When to back it is more to the point and that is no easy question to answer.

Hi Dale ,
Thanks for sharing your findings.
If you wish to calculate your points to price, there are 2 programs that you can use that will do this.
One is the Neurals program at Racingandsport.
Set everything to 0
Delete all the runner that you dont want by placing a mark next to their name.
Press enter
Now enter your rating figures next to their name, then press enter & Bingo , you have a result.
The percentages can then be tweeked from there.
This next way is probable simpler.
Go to Ozracetools.
There is a program in there for converting points to prices.
There you have it.
You will need to adjust your book percentage to about 45-50% if using 3 horses.
The percentage is usually calculated around the SR of those combined selections & maybe tweek it down a little further.
e.g. 86% SR for top 6 selections . Set book percentage to 76-86%
Cheers.

Hi Bhagwan.
Thanks for the links, ill have to check them out, they sound good.
Ive converted the ratings to odds in the odd race but as it is a real chore and the ratings themselves are still very raw i havent bothered going into it that deeply yet.
I was using a sliding scale, giving 100% of the rating to the top rater,95% to the 2nd top rater,90% to the 3rd and so on in incuments of 5% and then adding them all before dividing their individual score into that figure,it seems to work nicely but if i can get much the same thing without the hassle of having to do it manualy ill head that way.

Going back to saturday the ratings ended up slightly in profit, the win of Storm Signal at $25 (upto $35 elsewhere)being the highlight.
My own records were much better,i recommend a few simple filters, things like only betting on races with 10 starters or more, eliminating older horses with too many race starts and ignoring ratings recorded at a distance 1000m and more from todays distance can make a world of difference.

Without the face to face contact or voice inflections it can be difficult (at times) to express an opinion in here without offending someone.
It really shouldn't be necessary to add smileys to every statement one makes, nor should it be necessary to start an all out war over what has been interpreted or misinterpreted as a deliberate sleight.
If there is someone that you really cant hack, you can do this......
<TABLE class=tborder id=post150206 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=alt2></TD></TR><TR><TD class=alt1>This message is hidden because xxx is on your ignore list (http://forums.ozmium.com.au/profile.php?do=editlist).</SPAN>
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
I have only one immature individual on mine, and because I have seen the frustration of failed (would be) academics, I should be more understanding.
But I cant be bothered.

Crash,
When i asked for opinions on these ratings i wasnt expecting the whole class as a ratings tool, to be on the table,it annoyed me and caught me off gaurd so i apolagise for the comments that got deleted,i did ask for opinions.
