Ive been following the NHL for years. I regularly have a bet from my little slush fund and over the years cant believe the POT that can be returned. It far outweighs any other form of betting IMO. I've never set up data or stats or get into it as a system type set up rather just go over betting transactions to get the financials.

I go to sports.yahoo.com and click on NHL. I read the previews for each game and look for 2 things only.
1. The home team has a good home record. They have been wining of late. The away team isnt so good away. They havent really been winning of late.
2. Somewhere in each review they will tell you the teams record against each other. If the home team has a superior edge then thats the bet if #1 rule is good.

Today i had 1 bet. Nashville @ Anaheim. Heres some stats and quotes.

They used two first-period goals to get a 4-2 win over the Ducks (21-17-6) on Dec. 8 after failing to get on the scoreboard until the third period in a 3-1 loss at Anaheim on Oct. 17 -- their fifth consecutive defeat at the Honda Center.

oK sure they beat them on their home ice but like all US sports thats normal. The next bit reads they havent beaten Anaheim in 5 starts in Anaheim.
The price $1.57+ the strike rate on this type of match up is around 75% IMO.
Over the years i am still amased at NHL prices.
BTW Anaheim won 5-2 and the Honda Centre hudu continues

That's what the struggling Sabres face, however, as they look to snap a six-game overall skid and post a rare win in New Jersey on Tuesday night.

Brodeur is 8-1-0 with a 1.65 GAA in his last nine home starts against Buffalo. He was in net for New Jersey's 2-1 shootout win over the visiting Sabres on Dec. 28. The Devils will be happy to get back home, where they have won four straight and nine of 10 since losing four of their first seven at the new Prudential Center.

New Jersey $1.65+

Just went back and had a look at NHL bets since 13th Dec 07. I dont go looking for a game everyday. I continue to have a friendly $100 bet as i choose and enjoy watching and listening to the games as the races are on.

i had 14 bets for 11 winners. I simply have a quick read of each game as listed on post #1. it takes about 30sec per game to pick.

the divies have been
$1.63
$1.57
$1.67
$1.37
miss
$1.50
$1.37
$1.47
miss
$1.58
miss
$1.72
$1.57
$1.57

that equates to 14 outlay 17.2 return
POT = 22.8%

I would suggest 10-15% would be more of an average.
Just thought i would share something i've enjoyed playing with. no plans on venturing further then my $100 bets every now and then.

Ottawa Senators (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/ott/;_ylt=AjGxAcdqouuJR1Lr1wrloT0svLYF) look to avoid a letdown Thursday when they host the slumping Buffalo Sabres (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/buf/;_ylt=AgDMHeXLYRZLg2lrEYvTKx8svLYF), who are trying to avoid losing eight straight games for the first time in five years.

The Senators (27-10-4) have won five of their last seven games to build a seven-point lead over New Jersey in the East.

Ottawa defeated the Sabres 5-3 on Friday, and has won three of four meetings against them this season. The Senators are 13-4-3 against Buffalo since the 2005-06 season, including a 7-2-0 mark at Scotiabank Place.

Detroit went down in a tight one. Went past Normal time into overtime into a shootout. Same with the Ottawa game, which went into about 6 or 7 shootouts each side before they won.

Vancouver (24-15-4) will try to earn a point in its 15th straight home game and 14th straight there against Phoenix on Friday night.
