Hey mate I pulled out all 100 raters from about 18 months worth of data and I have 28296 selections.

I can't really paste up a list that big here so if you want to shoot me a PM I can send you the spreadsheet with all the data - horses, win and place prices, rating, and Radio Tips.

As a side note I will give you some stats...

Just 100 Raters:
Selections: 28296
1st: 6355 (22.46%)
2nd: 4589 (16.22%)
3rd: 3666 (12.96%)
Not Placed: 13686 (48.37%)

100 Raters that are in top 4 of Radio Tips
Selections: 19823
1st: 5201 (26.24%)
2nd: 3561 (17.96%)
3rd: 2727 (13.76%)
Not Placed: 8334 (42.04%)

100 Raters that are in top 3 of Radio Tips
Selections: 18262
1st: 4962 (27.17%)
2nd: 3315 (18.15%)
3rd: 2518 (13.79%)
Not Placed: 7467 (40.89%)

100 Raters that are in top 2 of Radio Tips
Selections: 14416
1st: 4252 (29.5%)
2nd: 2670 (18.52%)
3rd: 1967 (13.64%)
Not Placed: 5527 (38.34%)

100 Raters that are in top 1 of Radio Tips
Selections: 8927
1st: 2928 (32.8%)
2nd: 1637 (18.34%)
3rd: 1211 (13.57%)
Not Placed: 3151 (35.3%)

I hope that can help you start off. Let me know how you go as I have looked at something similar and while it was close I didnt quite get it make a profit but you might have some idea I didnt think of. :D

Using the statistics provided from a couple of threads.

100 raters + 1st Selection - 32%
Opening price lower than pre post - 96%

Could we get a profitable system?

Wish I could provide the statistical data that others here can (but I would never be able to figure out how to do it, i.e I'm still fiddling with the VHS) BUT I can tell you that I have been activly betting the following: Top Pic , + 100 rater (all jointers in) + late mail and have NEVER fallen below break even.

BUT, also I have noticed that the so called radio selection is in fact (in nearly all cases) the race caller for that meeting, and some are better than others.............. so there you go ,..... the HUMAN element!

Could be worth just adding late mail selection to this and see where it goes??

Secondly split into Metro and non metro as you know we can obtain Best Tote or SP for Metro which might just make the difference??? especially for the place!

so i get a 13.62% win strike rate for 100 raters not included in 1st 4 radio tips

would be interested to see the returns on that as it would probably include most of those double figure 100 raters that keep getting up...

A lot of those double figure prices are in the top 4, i wonder how you would go just backing those abover $10

I did an analysis a couple of years ago on the ratings.

I'm not entirely sure exactly how they are calculated, but the Techform ratings outperformed the Unitab ratings by a fair margin.
I also found that they must have a generic scale, so it's just their top rated horse which is allocated 100.
I.E. a 100 rater in one race is not the same as a 100 rater in another race, there can be a massive difference in the actual points the horses get, yet they still get 100 for being top.

If they did it like the racing post ratings it would be much better.

& a lot of them aint, bound to be greater value outside the radio tips, but profitability is the ?

been backing all 100 raters >=$10 for a while for, mainly pub bets, with some success, but doubt theres anything to get to excited about with such a freely available piece of info.

Hi, would you have the average divi for each of those winnersI can tell you the average divs of the winners and the result of backing each $10 flat stakes @ TAB prices...

Just 100 Raters
Avg Div = $3.74
TAB Prices = -$45 145

100 Rater + Tob 4 Tab Tips
Avg Div = $3.17
TAB Prices = -$33 159

100 Rater + Tob 3 Tab Tips
Avg Div = $3.07
TAB Prices = -$30 305

100 Rater + Tob 2 Tab Tips
Avg Div = $2.87
TAB Prices = -$22 078

100 Rater + Tob 1 Tab Tips
Avg Div = $2.58
TAB Prices = -$13 713

So yeah they don't make money just like that (well not with TAB prices).

Selections: 3361
1st: 1289 (38.35%)
2nd: 617 (18.36%)
3rd: 435 (12.94%)
Not Placed: 1020 (30.35%)
Avg Div of Winners: $2.19
If Back $10 on each on TAB prices: $-5397

Much closer...If you factor in getting better prices (say 10% better) than it only runs at -$2575. Heres where I thought it was close but maybe needed 1 more filter.

May sound small but in fact its got a ROI (return on investment) of -20%. Not good.

Hi Goty,
Try this...
Delete all that ran 2nd or 3rd last start to inject value.

These tend to be over bet.

I feel this should reduce the LOT.

Cheers.

Hi goty0405!
OK I converted the XL sheet to database table ready to analyse, give us some ideas what filters you want to look at? (email or public up to you)

There are over 6000 duplicate records, that is, where there are 2 horses with a rating of 100 in the same race!
I did not know it was possible?

I did not know it was possible?Haha I got those from my own database so I don't need another one...I even wrote a front-end analysis tool for mine to make it easier to test ideas. I think I just wanted the list of metro and non-metro tracks.

And yes there are plenty of races where there are several 100 raters. I'd like to know how that rating system worked...

like for instance 100 points and proven record on distance etc. etc.

Anyway, in this case I just go by my own method, and see how it pans out.
Many thanks for sending it!

I presume these are unitab prices as I did this REAL BETTING and got slightly better than break even at best tote/sp.

Then added 3 more rules and got into profit.
(1) Races LESS than 2000m only
(2) Raced within 21 days OR first up over 1200m OR less
(3) 50% place record (at least 5 lifetime starts)

Based on my thoughts about how the Unitab ratings are worked out, I'd suggest the 100 raters today at Orange, would probably be something like this:

1-2
2-6
3-1
4-1
5-1
6-5
7-1 or 2
8-4 or 7

Sportz, as a matter of interest, Unitab's ratings are the EST rankings on Feature Form which is found on the neural website.

I haven't the faintest clue how they are calculated because some of the selections seem very puzzling.

Yep, that's what I meant by "my thoughts on how the Unitab ratings are worked out". Without knowing for absolute certain, I just assumed that they were based on those ratings, because I'd noticed the similarity over the years.
