they said if gary ablett didn't win the brownlow in 2008, he'll never win one after the season he had....

come to think of it, they said that in 2007 as well...

whats going to be the excuse this year? i've already heard he has a groin injury and will miss this week....

Anyway i had big bet on Dane Swan to win it this year @ $101, he's been thereabouts last 2 years and i think he'll really come into his own this year....only been outshone by leon davis at collingwood this season, and we know how the umps love to give the votes to mids, and swan is a proven vote getter. already into $29 just a few rounds in, i'm hoping he can go on with it!

Other possibilities? I don't think it will be any of ablett, bartel, selwood...... i think Judd is a major chance, Dal Santo's been in great form and Sewell's last few games have been incredible.

One things for sure, i'll be staying right away from Dean Cox!!!!

i've had early bets chris judd..dane swan & scott pendlebury..the latter in particular is one of the most skilled and talented players in the league imo..

How could anyone take the short odds on offer about Gary Ablett? They're also gambling that he stays injury free.

I believe Riewoldt does have a chance....

Do they count until Grand Final?

Chuck

no, only the regular season.

I just think that Saints have so many guys taking votes off each other. and i know people will say that bartel won in 07 etc. but this year Riewoldt, Goddard, Montagna, Dal Santo, Hayes will all have quite a few votes and i just can't see any of them winning

It's very open. Has Collingwoods's Swan previously attracted the umpires' votes?
He does look a great show. What about everyone who took the shorts about Gary Ablett? I wonder what they're doing now? Counting their losses?

Swan came 4th two years ago so is obviously on the umps good side. can't say the same about didak and co which works in his favour.

Well i will be putting everything i have in my bank account, haha not much at the moment, on swan getting top 5 at $1.80. Surely had a better year then last and i think 14 games with over 30 disposals (some over 40) should put him as a big chance to win.

Go west coast :)

Boy, that was pretty close to the mark with most of the players. Big loser though was Swan. Bad luck, Chuck. Not sure what happened there. Maybe the umps don't like tattoos?

There are certain guys that you can just about guarantee will poll well every time, even if they don't seem to have had such a brilliant year - Judd, Black & Goodes. And Lenny Hayes might be falling into that category now too. I think he's polled pretty well before and last night, he was only about 4th or 5th in betting for the St Kilda team, but managed to get top 3 overall.

Maybe the umps don't like tattoos? But Beams? has tats of a similar nature and he got a few votes as well, so not sure

was with a few mates on weekend and had a carton with each of them that swan would not be in top 5. If possesions were everything the likes of joel bowden would be winning medals.
The likes of judd, ablett, black, the players that continually run through those lines in packs and still get the high numbers (with huge tags) are the ones that should get the votes. Also, a lot of teams wont even put a strong tag on swan because they dont believe his influence on games is that strong.
my 2 cents anyway, the umps got it right for once!

you do realise that Swan led the comp in direct score assists for a great deal of the season....

Perhaps the umps got 'em mixed up, and Beams got the votes that should have gone to Swan. ;)

I guess that is because opposition coaches are prepared to leave him alone. He rarely gets heavily tagged like other elite midfielders.
I think swan is a very good player, but it would of been a "wowodin" if he won
