I've never bet exotics, but recently when researching a win method backing 3 per race, which was going nowhere; I noticed that it was jagging the quinella very often and the better payout is getting my attention.
My question is : is there a rule of thumb as where to bet quinellas? similar to say Sportbets' best of 3 or SP (for the win that is)

I was reading some where that races with exactly 9 runners offered the best win / risk ratio for quinellas.

Does anybody have any interesting quinella plans they wish to share?

Remember someone posted a method that you find interesting...or not!
Take Radio-Tips and box them in exacta, increasing stake until profit hit.
Box Selections 1,2,3 in exacta for $3 (1/2 unit) - misses then Box Selections 1,2,3 in exacta for $6 (1 unit) on next race and so on and so forth....
Someonelese had also said to stop at 5 races to minimise loses....
Something to work with...??

STIX, funny that was exactly what I was working on.(Radio tips) But what I wanted to know is there anywhere that one can get a better deal on quinellas (or exactas) than the tote? or is one tote better than another/ home tote over away tote etc. etc. anyone?

i looked at this and found the quinellas do a lot better than aa. I looked at standing the first pick out from the next 2 in quinellas. 1 unit is $2. not too sure how it goes with gallops but works very well with chariots and dishy's. Elimate maidens and weaker class races and it shows a profit most days.

So if there is 3 tips for eg 7,6,1
You take 7 for the win, then 6 and 1 to run 2nd?

yep thats right, i think it would even work better standing the shortest price tipped runner. I looked through a lot of results a while ago and didnt look to bad. It shows way better results than boxing the 3.
Another one i found worked quite well and throws up some big divvies was in the chariots. Take the 3 tips from radiotab/paper etc and stand out the favourite to run 2nd in an e x a c t a.. then put the other 2 selections to win. Once again $2 for one unit, ive had $70+ divvies.
good luck.

Your looking at 25% TAB take-out for exotics Party. Thats a big whack to overcome before a profit. Do the maths as I'm sure the have!

Crash, yes that's what I mean, I'm sure theres a better deal somewhere, but also I'm told that the divies are better than the actual odds ? confusing!

A better deal Party? What, you want money for jam? :-)
Any of the NT bookie sites run exotics [when their not concentrating on their 140% win books]? I don't think you'll find an easier hurdle than the TAB 25% exotic take-out to overcome. The only thing the TAB has going for them is their better odds than any bookie on the long shots.
If you can aim [and succeed long term] in at least 1 horse at odds getting up in the quins. a profit might be made if no more than a 3 horses quin. cost average is kept to. No easy task!
Just my .002c worth anyway.

these results were for exactas mate.
its just relying on some big divvies to show a profit. very low s/r but jags some big ones. Standing out in quinella is a good way to go too.

Crash, yes of course. But you have been "aware" I think a lot longer than me. Although I've been on the punt for many years, I didn't (or maybe didn't want to) understand the mathes involved.
But if you can get the best Tote OR SP whichever is higher on an every day bet...... why not? I'm just looking for the best divi I can get for the quinella.
Also I doubt if they would be holding a 140% book at Top Fluc, all runners? I have on quite a few occasions backed every horse in a race @ less than 100%, (by taking the BEST odds on offer for each horse, different bookies) not winning a fortune but it's a great feeling.
