For today, I've only this pick:

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Philadelphia Flyers

With Smith in the nets and a 4.5 conceeded goals average record when playing on the road, we have here a spot to take some advantage. This seems easy. However, this is just a stat. So, I will continue with some explanation about Tampa Bay, as we won the last 2 reads i've done about this team.

The Lightning are a special team with extra-confidence when they play at home. But today they will play on the road. In 4 games, they've got 3 regular time losses and one loss in OT. The last two road games, they lost 1-7 and 1-4. Before those 2 games, they won 2 at home, so we can't excuse them with things like "they weren't in their best form". They had also their roster without injuries.

What can I say about this? They are very weak on the road, with huge problems on the nets, particularly when Smith is their goaltender. It's true that they have very talented players in their first line, but they've got some kind of syndrome, as they usually play bad on the road. Moons' players. Moody players.

Philadelphia after a good start lowered their performance until they've got that 6 days rest. Since then, they only lost to Sharks and Capitals, but the loss against San Jose was at home. They've scored more than 3.80 goals per game at home, as they are a very offensive team that loves to give good shows and in my opinion, the Flyers are a team that can beat anyone at home.

Therefore, what can we think about this game? Tampa Bay will attempt to approach this game with a lot of cautions, as they know how bad they are on the road and how much they need St Louis, Lecavallier and so on to play well. Yet, these players can't produce enough on the road and more than that, these players need confidence from the team to play well. That trust will not travel with the team, as they are coming from a bad loss at home, after the draw with Devils for one goal.

In the other side, the Flyers gave a blowout win last game, winning 6-1 at home against a lousy Hurricanes team. But if we watch the last home games, they gave another blowout win against Florida, and losing in RT and won in OT with teams with a even away record. So, we can see that Philadelphia takes advantage from teams that approach the games with some fears. In their home field, they dictate the law and another blowout victory for the Flyers seems probable.

2009.11.05, 2 picks:

Montreal Canadiens @ Boston Bruins

For this match up, we would have a perspective when the season started, a good game. However, this teams were disappointing, showing only in few games the talent they got in their rosters. In this moment, Montreal are showing some improvements, with 5 of their 7 wins, appearing in their last 6 home games. However, when we though that Montreal was getting strong, they went to Pittsburgh to a blowout loss, and achieving another loss in the next game, at Chicago.

So, Montreal is not a reliable team. Knowing they are coming from a home loss, where they were trying to use their home advantage to rise their game, we can view here a spot: as a non reliable team, they are without confidence, as their efforts for the 6 straight wins at home, were smashed. Montreal as showed as well problems in their defense, taking most of their wins to OT, resulting from a power defense that shows problems when pressured, often allowing goals in the last minutes.

Boston, is a curious team, as they usually alternates a win with a loss. But for the first time this season, they got 2 straight losses, and worst, 0 goals on that games. They are on red alert about their offense, struggling with Savard injury. But even with Savard out, they already proved that they can score, and had improve their defense game to cover that powerless offense. In their last games, they are allowing just 1.60 goals per game.

So, for this game, I will take Boston 3way, but that's because this teams some times donīt play as we expect, otherwise, I would take PL. Montreal with huge defensive problems, coming from a loss, and know that tomorrow, when they return to home, they got to win to any cost to continue showing their fans improvement. So, I expect a cautious Canadians team, playing just the enough to donīt be humiliated. Boston, have offense problems, but will not miss this opportunity, facing a awful defensive team. With their defense, which will be the key for victory, they can with calm improve their offense.

Donīt forget the confidence, Montreal is not a reliable team, as Boston is more than accustomed to losses, normally giving great responses, as I expect today.

Pick: Boston Bruins 3Way (1X2) +100 (2.00) Bookmaker

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Ottawa Senators

After a nice start, Senator lost some of they fuel, with 4 losses in last 5. Despite the recent form, we can build a probable scenario for today's game. This because Senators had almost a week off, playing last game 5 days ago. So, they had time to think what was missing in the last games, and how to return to initial form. Donīt forget that they got the will, as they are angry because of the last loss, a defeat at home against Atlanta, due to a sensational perform of Atlantaīs GK. So, they know what they are capable, they know how to play well, and make sure they can seek luck.

Tampa, is a team that I already described many times. Home team. They live under the talent of their first line, but that talent needs to be stimulated by the supporters. In foreign pavilions, they usually canīt get that talented, and their first away win, yesterday, was because of Toronto demerit. If we look before yesterday, they lost 3 away games for 3 or more goals. Curious is the fact that they suffered the biggest defeat two weeks ago at this field, losing 7-1 to Senators. But they already gave their revenge, winning 5-2 at home.

So, for this game, I think we have a great value on Senators PL. Is not so risky as it seems, and the odds are with 0.40 plus than what I think it would be fare. Senators, despite the last results, had time to think their game. This game is the perfect game to them, they know how to break this team, as they won 7-1 two weeks ago. They canīt wait a better team to face tonight and show they can improve from the last results.

Tampa, get their first away win yesterday, and will have a B2B game, in a uncomfortable position to them. They got a little bit of luck, as they won with opponent demerit and had a more tired game, as they got to hold the result despite Toronto pressure. They are a easy prey as visitors, and Senators will like be a bad host for them.

2009.11.06, 1 Pick:

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Carolina Hurricanes

Be aware about this play. This game can be a long shot, however, there is a big value on PL line. I will not let this one pass. Hurricanes are with 9 losses in a row. They are with the worst records in PIM and scoring. But, they have one team worst than them in goals allowed. Imagine who? Toronto.

For those who keep a track of my picks, already knows that fade Carolina has been a good bet, but i had advise everyone to the turning point. That turning point will probable appear at home, and Iīm sure that will happen soon, and at home against a poor road team. Difficult will be to analyse if there will be a real turn point, or a fake turn point, but, one victory, will appear in the next games for sure.

For this game, Caroline will bet everything they got. Hurricaneīs coach donīt feel is job is in jeopardy, giving the excuse of injuries and so on to the results. However, he seems a believer, and that could be great to rise Hurricaneīs confidence. At least, this is my thought. About the roster, the news are not the bests, with Whitney probably joining Staal on the injurieīs list. They call their first pick from last year draft to fill the empty spots in their offense, and will play today.

Toronto, got their first win in their last road trip. Curiously, after that win, they got 4 OT losses in 4 games. This can damage a team, that get their first win, feel that they can turn things around, and them, lost 4 games on OT, where they tried to give all they got, and feel no luck. Defense, was their problem, and they are demoralizing for sure. There were no results when they feel that they can bring results, particularly in last game at home.

So, this game will be the battle for the worst team title. Two teams, digging deep their own holes without any help. Today, someone has to win, who will be? Toronto, the "one win team", who have no luck and are the worst defense team? Or Carolina, a team with their worst losing streak since 93/93?

My guess, is that Caroline, a team that get the playoffs last season, and i enjoyed to watch, will play to win, and win. They are a team that can fight, just need an opportunities to break this streak. Even with their best players out, this is game is not a question of talent, but a question of will, and believes.

Take note that this game have no value on ML and 3WAY play. PL have a great value, as I believe that Carolina will play with all they got, and the public will try to help. Against a poor defensive team, this is their opportunity. Toronto just waste their last opportunities, will arrive to this game with no confidence. In the last Hurricanes win, they won at home 7-2.

So, if they start their engines at home, against a this awful defensive team, we can expect a blowout, they will get enthusiasm and can turn this one in a easy game.

Pick: Carolina Hurricanes PL -1.5 +240 (3.40) 5Dimes, Diamond (DSI)

Philadelphia Flyers @ Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres are being great so far. With 9-2-10 record, they are a no fearing team. Their losses comes in NY Islanders and at home against Atlanta, but Detroit for example, they were able to shutdown. They got courage. Despite my opinion (I still have doubts about their reliability), they are proving something, being cohesive, and taking the advantage of Ryan's Miller performance so far.

Flyers, is the team I most enjoy to watch. Show is what they promise, and they come from 2 blowout wins at home. At road, they still have to improve their game, because is not so easy for them to play outside, their kind of game is more adequate to play at home.

However, the spot for me to this game, is that the team have some players with flu and had made today an airplane travel, where the air is not well renewed. So, it's likely that more players got the virus (seasonal flu, not H1N1), and as we know, flu most effects is physical tireness and fever. There is medication to ease the symptons, but it is not enought on theses cases. So, it seems to me a game to take Sabres. Without this spot, I would take Flyers for sure as dogs, but I wonder if bookies didn't make them dogs because of the flu...

2009.11.10, only 1 Pick:

Calgary Flames @ Montreal Canadiens

This is a game between two canadian teams. Montreal is a very experienced team, full of seasoned players. However, they haven't played well, they had a bad start and only recently at home they've got a good winning streak. Yet, the losses have returned.

Calgary is a very strong team this year in my opinion and they are playing well. They have difficulties in managing their motivation, which translates in their results, when they have a loss, on their next game, they usually have a second loss two... This show some lack of mental strength, despite the quality of the roster.

This is a game with a simple spot. Montreal is a very seasoned team and they play much better at home. Despite their bad moment, they like to host canadian teams and they give all they've got on these games, usually scoring good results. They are mentally strong and can reverse the late bad results trend, fighting against one of the best teams of the league. Calgary despite their good games, doesn't have now the needed mental strength, showing some strain on their last games.

Pick: Montreal Canadiens ML +110 (2.10) Bookmaker

Edmonton Oilers @ Ottawa Senators

Another game between canadian teams. Edmonton has several absences for today and they are in a bad moment, only 2 wins in their last 8 games. Ottawa has a team with very experienced and talented players, they lost their last 3 home games, and they need to win again. They will have several home games in the upcoming weeks, so they can't waste much more opportunities and today they will surely take advantage of the circunstancial opponent's frailty.

2009.11.11, only 1 Pick:

Edmonton Oilers @ Buffalo Sabres

Khabibulin has not been particularly good at the road. Even being clear that he is a good goaltender, he are not having their best season, and had some struggling games. The last games have been hard for Oilers, going with 2-7, after a good season opening. It is easy to figure that the injuries are being so far their biggest trouble, and team are with some some mental problems. They come from a OT lost, but they won the game before that, at "cinderelaīs team" home (Colorado). But what we have to see here is that the team depends to much of their best players. When the offensive players were out, they had problems to score. So, this tell us that they need their best players in their best, in order to fight their games. Their defense are being a little bit down with Souray out.

Sabres, with the fantastic Miller at the nets, are a team that finally proves what i said. They can do their best or their worth, and the value in bets involving them, is to have a good read about their motivation, and how they will face the game. And today, I think we will have a good day for them. They already proved their strength, specially at home. They can play pretty well, and give a good show, entertaining every one. The truth is that this team, with only 4 defeats in this season, are 1-3 in the last 4. This show that they got their worst right now. But they got the ability, particularly at home, to turn this around at any moment.

After struggling the last games, Sabres have here a gold opportunity, they had 4 days to thin what was wrong. They usually reacts well, when hosting poor road teams. Specially today, we should expect a game with lots of goals for Sabres, because Oilers are in B2B game, and this can damage a lot this team, with lot of injuries, and probably one of their best offensive players out, Hemsky. Their best players, after trying hard yesterday for a win, will play again today, after a travel from Ottawa to Buffalo today. We canīt expect to much on them, and even less from other players. So, this seems a easy one.

2009.11.12, only 2 Picks:

Ottawa Senators @ Philadelphia Flyers

Incredible these odds. If we see carefully, this game have a big hole between these two teams. Ottawa have no strong factors against Flyers. They are worst in Face-offs, Defense, offense, PP, PK, and so on. Its incredible, but its true. It's not normal, however, this can't be enough to take Flyers, as anything can happen in US sports.

Senators had a good start of the season, but now they are passing a hard time with a 3-5. Their efforts to win their games, are leaded by their veterans, and their fatigue can cause then real problems during the season. In other hand its visible their difficulties against strong offensive teams. Right now, they come from a hard win, 4-3 in OT, against an Oilers team with lots of absences.

Philadelphia it's a team that had give us easy money. They are strong, and a true contenders this year. Hard to beat, specially at home, where they are 6-2. In their last game, they won 2-1 on OT. However, that game was a B2B game, after going to Buffalo won 5-2. In that games, the team had several players with a seasonal flu, which can give them fatigue, and the fact that they travel all together on a plain, is easy to figure that the virus eventually strike another players.

Flyers, had 5 days to prepare this game and get their indices back. In their last break, they return to competition with a blowout win at home, and today, I expect the same. They are stronger, in offense and in defense, and at home they usually are the "law". Senators are passing their worst period of the season, and even with some great players, they are not making the difference right now, and I think they will spare themselves to the home games that comes after this one.

Pick: Philadelphia Flyers PL -1.5 +175 (2.75) Bookmaker

Minnesota Wild @ Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa Bay will host today the Minnesota Wild. They had 5 days off to get in condition and prepare this game. After 4 road games, they will have 2 home games before a new road trip. So, they cant miss this games, first Wild, and then Kings, 2 team reachable besides their form.

Tampa Bay is a home team. No one beats them in RT yet. Tampa's players, particularly at offense, are very talented. One of the most talented first lines on the NHL, however, they usually sucks at road. Don't ask me why, but at home, they rule. They play very well at home, scoring 3.43 goals per game, and allowing only 2.00.

And despite the last results, we have to watch that this team don't need a momentum, wait for a good shape, or expecting a letdown spot on the opponent. They can turn things around at home in a moment. They can get 10 goals from hurricanes one day, and the other day, give 10-0 to Sharks at home. Is that kind of team.

Minnesota after an awful start are now playing what we all expected from them. However the last results don't face what they are at road: 2-8. So, even with their improvement, they are not yet a reliable team on the road to take.

So, for this game, we can't pass this odds for Tampa Bay PL. They can crush anyone, and they had time to prepare this game, and i have no doubts that they will give their best in this 2 home games. In the other side, despite the improvement that Wilds had, they had that wins mostly from teams with a weak offensive line. When they face strong offensive lines, they usually break out, and it's what I expect for today.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Carolina Hurricanes

This will be probably the best game of the day, due to the fact that this will be a matchup between two teams that have their best arguments on the offense.

Pittsburgh had 5 of their 7 losses on the last 8 games. They struggled a little bit with 4 straight losses, but are now returning to their best form, with 2 wins in a row. Curious is the fact that they only started to win when one of their stars, Malkin, returned. With 2 games since is return, the team is scoring 5.5 goals per game, but with him out, the team has scored 0 goals twice, and on the other games, only 1 goal. So, they definitly had struggled without him, even having Crosby, who aparently can't get enough without Malkin support.

Penguins will start a 3 games road trip and certainly will want to start it well. They are 7-4 at road, but remember that 3 of those losses where in their last road trip, when they were struggling. Despite their record and known power they are having problems with lots of injuries, specially at defense where they were improving from last season. But their biggest attributes are the offensive ones, and Crosby and Malkin together are reason enough to guarantee that Pittsburgh will hit the nets. It seems probable that Max Talbot will return today as well, he was the Game 7 two-goal scorer hero from the last Stanley Cup final in June. And Fleury will be at their nets, he is playing pretty well and will give more confidence for the few defenders that will be able to play

Ottawa even with talented players are struggling and the last time they've got 2 wins in a row was one month ago. Their last game was a win and if they stay as an unreliable team, we can expect them to lose today. They have a few veterans like Alfredsson and Kovalev, who are pure talent players and give great value to the Senators' roster, transmiting experience to younger and talented players as well, like Spezza. However, this is not enough to win games and they are having problems because they exactly struggle too many games on their offense. Against a team with their best players back to their offensive line, this is easily translated as a loss. If they will not produce on their offense, they will have problems to win their games.

So, for this game we can expect a lot of goals. Senators have talent on their offense and will probably take advantage on the fact that the Penguins have their best defenders out. Yet, the Penguins have their bigger stars in the field and will return Talbot, who did not play since the two goals to Detroit, which gave Pittsburgh their last Stanley Cup. So, it will be a game with a lot of goals, but there is a nice spot to take advantage: Ottawa this season usually loses against power offensive teams, as they can't keep the game close for a long time. They depend too much on their veterans, who are not physically so strong and fit to play too much time as the other players and that gives them a breach on their game.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Ottawa Senators

Montreal Canadiens @ Washington Capitals

For this game there are many players doubtful. Unfortunately for us Semin might be out for the Capitals; and Gionta for the Canadiens, will be definitely out. These two are among the best players in their respective teams. But tonight, we have two teams in different situations.

Montreal at the beginning of the season was looking like a serious contender, is now struggling in the league. They started with 2 wins on OT and then had 5 straight losses. After that, the only time they get more than 1 win in a row, was after that 5 losses, and that is when the alarm fired. But even there, they needed OT and SO in 3 of those 4 wins.

And since then, they are losing many games, winning one game occasionally. They won last game in SO at home against one of the weakest teams this season. So, they still have a poor moral, still missing a true "momentum" and they are not able to achieve consecutive wins for now. Their main problem is in the offense, where we all expect much more than they have done yet. Their defense after the injury of Markov, was easy to expect problems. Even in their last 5 games, they are only scoring 1.40 goals per game and they will need urgently to turn things around.

Washington in other hand is one of the best teams in the league and an early contender to Stanley Cup. They are managing very well their injuries as they had few games with all their best players playing together. However, Ovchekin returned last game, preventing Capitals to get a letdown spot. He leads the league in goals with Gaborik and is certainly the best player on NHL. He alone can solve one game, he is the one that can score in any position, in any place. At home, the Capitals are amazing, 3 losses on OT, one loss in Regulation Time, and seven wins. They had scored more than 3.8 goals per game and they make a terrible place to play for the opponent's players.

So, today it will be hard for Canadiens to keep this game close. They are struggling at defense as well as in offense. To keep this game close, they will need to score lots of goals, as it is unlikely that Capitals will have pity of them. Montreal will have to use their wits and play the game just for the game, and hold their will and energy for the next day, when they will have to return to home, to host the Detroit Red Wings. So, I expect an easy win for Washington.

Florida Panthers @ Detroit Red Wings

We will have a match up here with two hot teams. The difference is that for the Red Wings, we can say "finally!", but for the Panthers, we should be shocked.

They improved so much in their last games, raising almost one goal in their last game, when compared to the rest of the games average. However, this is a case where "the higher they rise, the harder they fall". They will not keep this pace much longer.

Florida is a young team, they doesn't have big names in their first line. They are playing well and that is surprising everybody, as they started the season with a 2-8 record losing.

However in the last games, where they turned things around, those wins were mainly against team with low experience and that are not reliable. Between those wins, for example, they lost 2 games in a row with Capitals, with a 3 difference goals on both matches. For this game they will go with Clemmensen, who is having his worst season so far, with 5.14 goals allowed per game. Thus, he is definitely not reliable despite his experience, he can't feel confident or self-assured at this moment.

Detroit started this season with a slow pace. They struggled a lot until a few games ago and it seemed that finally the "old guys broke". They are a old team truth be told, but they are one of the best teams in the league, talent wise. In their last games they are scoring 4.20 goals per game showing us that they are maybe still alive. They need more games to prove that they are contenders, as they started late their race to the playoffs.

So, this will be a game where probably the Panthers will lose their momentum. They will start with a goaltender who his probably without confidence, due to his woeful exhibitions so far. Their defense is also soft and when they face strong and talent-proved offensive players, they usually breakout. Facing such a talent team like Detroit, with so many strong offensive players, who are finally getting their momentum back and scoring so many goals lately, it is easy to figure that the Red Wings will crush the Panthers.

Boston Bruins @ St Louis Blues

It seems that finally we will see the Bruins as expected. Despite the 10-8 record, we have to add plus 4 losses on OT or SO. So, they are not with a good record and it seems incredible, as we all expected them to be one of the best teams at this point. The reason is simple. Last year, Boston overwhelmed the other teams during the regular season.

By far they were the best team and seemed the best contenders to Stanley's Cup. However, after an easy series against the Canucks, they were stopped in 7 games by Hurricanes. For this year the roster is basically the same. So, we all guess that Boston could once again had shown their power.

But after a weak start, they are a team with curious results. They start with a loss to win the next game. They kept on this system on the first 12 games of the season. Incredible, next to that system of 1 loss followed by 1 win, they got it deeper: 3 consecutive losses for 2 wins in a row. This new season was used in their last 10 games. So, can this time they start a new system?! I believe so.

The Bruins had struggled a lot on their offense. Where they were strong last year and maintaining their offensive players, we can figure that the problem is not lack of talent. Yet, their best center, Marc Savard, have been out for the last 15 games, where they went down in their offense. For today, we can expect him to return to lineup, as he says: "All I know is, I'm ready to get back and I'm glad about that. It will be great to get back in there with the boys.'' So, this is the news that Bruins fans were expecting last 5 weeks. Besides that, the team seems finally with confidence, as they continue strong on their defense and are improving their offense.

Saint Louis has not been reliable so far at home. They have a 5-7 record at home, 3-2 on their last 5 home games. Today they will have their last home game before the scheduled mini road trip. It is not clear yet if they are contenders for the playoffs. Last year they were not contenders, but a poor team until the last game, where they were magnificent, getting the last spot for the playoffs. But in the first series they had a blowout loss.

This year, they are being like the last season. An unreliable and poor team, despite it, they have good players on their roster so far. But even with that good players this is not a quite talented team. And that is easy to figure,as they had a streak of 4 games, where they scored 0.5 goal per game.

In their first 6 home games they seemed to improve their offense, with Kariya ending a 11 pointless games and Berglund scoring his first goal in 13 games. On that game they scored 6 goals, a season high, but then they had 2 straight games with only 2 goals. Despite they won their last 2 games, 3-2 and 4-1, this team is not reliable enough, and it's seems more safe to believe that they will cease this good moment, than continuing with the momentum.

So for this game, we have two teams coming from two wins. However, this match up is between two different teams. St. Louis is showing some weakness at home with a negative record. They are having difficulties to improve their offense as well and to be consistent. Boston showed in the past that same weakness. However, this can be a turning point for this season.

Savard will play again, and the team and coach are more confident than ever, enjoying a total day off yesterday, something rare, "Probably the first time in their careers they didn't have a game or a practice or a flight" coach Claude Julien said. The team showed last games a little bit of the team concept from last season and this should continue with the Bruins improving a lot their results and performance.

Philadelphia Flyers @ Colorado Avalanche

This will be a match up between two teams in different form. The best roster is without any doubt, the roster of the Flyers. Colorado had a great debut this season with a 10-3 record, all losses on OT. It starts to smell that the cinderella team was found. Pure mistake.

They were with the "momentum" and since it's gone, they are 3-7 and going in a path to reverse their record to negative. They are with 2 straight losses at home, including a blowout loss in the last one. This shows how their moment has turned. These 2 home losses were the first losses at home where they are 6-2.

One of the reasons is because of Anderson. The goaltender that was awesome in the beginning of the season, has lowered his performance, allowing more than 5 goals per game in the last 6 games. That can be normal at this point, as he should be tired, being their star as the Avalanche make him playing most of the games, missing only 3 this season. Their game has also suffered some changes as they are not so cohesive as before, and are not able to keep the lead.

The reasons can be many, but the fact of being number 1 team on NHL in the start, has done some damage thanks to the pressure. Their roster were not able to assimilate that fact, struggling and showing their weak points increased by insecurity.

Philadelphia is a kind of team that always plays to the public, making the game a true show. It's a great team and a contenders to Stanley Cup. They are a team with a great trail to score. They are the third best team on scoring in NHL. Incredible is the fact that none of their players are in the top scorers ranking. This show how this team works. Every one knows how to score, and try to do it in every occasion they get.

Their defense has been solid as well, with their best pair of defenders, Pronger and Carle, among top defense men. Prongers is by far one of the best players on NHL and he is fighting with top players such as Carter and Richards for top place on the points ranking on Flyers roster. When they get more than 2 losses on a row their coach gets upset, as he consider that good teams cannot lose two in a row. Just once they lost 3 games in a row, but they are now coming from 2 losses in a row on this 5 road games trip.

So for this game we will have Colorado that had lost all their fuel. They are not in advantage anymore and are mentally weak, allowing lots of goals and lowering their offensive power. They will host the Flyers, one of the most powerful teams in the league, with an average 3.4 goals per game. Among the Flyers roster every player is a candidate to score a goal and this will be a difficult problem for Colorado to manage. Philadelphia in another hand, cannot endure another defeat and the Colorado frailties will be exploited for sure.

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Montreal Canadiens

For this match up, we have an important spot to mention: the Blue Jackets are on B2B game. They are 1-1 on B2B games, however the win wasn't a fair result and they had luck.

I suppose that they'll end this season with a negative record on back-to-back games and that's because Rick Nash can't get comfortable when have to play with only a 24 hours break, specially when it includes an airplane travel.

And if Nash isn't comfortable to waste his rest time inside a plane, the team loses his best offensive player and their main star.

Their defense depends as well on their offense, or if you prefer, their wins depend on their offense only, as they are one of the worst teams on defense. Strange, as they were one of the best defending teams last season.

Montreal is still struggling this season. Will they ensure a playoff participation? The supporters think that playoffs are the minimum objective that this team as to achieve. For that, they have to quickly start a winning streak... and most of all, to not allow other teams to steal wins at their arena.

This team is one of the most talented teams, but is also one of the older's. Their experience could be offered for free and they still have enough experience to win games. So, the results will happen soon and i guess that today will be a good day to win, due to the fact that they've got the experience to manage a home game against a team coming from a match on the previous day.

The difference between the rosters is something easy to see. The Canadiens have more talented, but older players. Columbus have Nash, a 25 years LW, who is one of the best players in the league, but that still has to negociate back-to-back games.

Even with the weight of the age, Montreal can play this game with some physical strength as Columbus, since the Canadiens had 2 days to rest. With an intense public and the urge to win as well, Montreal can't let this victory fly away.

Philadelphia Flyers @ New York Islanders

As we all know, Philadelphia and New York are not for away from each other. So, this can be a hostile arena today, with many supporters from both teams. This can push the teams on the field to play a crazy and quick game, opening lots of spaces and with a lot of goals.

The Islanders after struggling in the first games, have been quite strong at home, scoring 3 goals per game. In their last month, they are scoring much more than that, showing their improvements at offense, with their young roster making the difference. This team was the worst last year and for that, they picked the first pick on the draft, John Tavares, who is tied with Moulson for points.

This team, maybe because of their youth, took some time to start their engines. But since they understanded what they needed to do, this team has been quite good, playing a great game and scoring a lot of goals even against great teams.

The Flyers are one of the best offensive teams. As I told you 2 days ago, this team is all for goals. The reason why I say this is because they are the top offensive team in goals scored, but haven't any player on the top scorers ranking. Everyone helps the team in that part even if his job is to defend, as Pronger. Playing on the road is not something that scares them, they still have this offensive power on the road, scoring 3 goals per game.

The environment will probably be hot, making this an interesting match up. Philadelphia will not avoid the opportunity to score their goals and I can't see the Islanders letting the Flyers take off. They have to keep this game close and they can keep it close and fight for the victory.

Excited by the public, both teams will explore as much as they can the adversary nets. This will probable be a fast game, with lots of shots, and will not be a game for a goaltender to get a good performance.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Tampa Bay Lightning

This match has a great spot. There are few things to mention to support this play as this game has an incredible value on the home team. Tampa Bay is 4-0 on regular time at home. And their 4 losses in OT were against teams that were with the "momentum" on their side and even then, it was an expensive buy to them.

Why should I refer this? Because as I'm coming to say from the beginning of the season, Tampa Bay is a home team.

They are giving great shows at home, with lots of good plays and goals. Their arena has a great number of supporters, and that's all basically due to their stars.

They have 2 of the most talented offensive players: St Louis and Lecavalier. But the Lightning roster doesn't stops there, because there are other great names to mention. Most of them are on the offense and that make this team a strong offensive team. Their best players always do good performances at home and they just love to play home.

Toronto has been one of the worst teams on entire league. They only had their first win in the eight game. And then, they lost another 4 in a row. The team has been struggling hard, however is important to remember that this is one of the most solid teams in administrative aspects.

They got a win 2 games ago, their fourth, and it doesn't seem likely that we will see another so soon. The Maple Leafs has not been solid is any game aspects. Sometimes they play with a good defense, other times with a good offense. But they are not reliable.

This game seems to be easy for Tampa Bay. They're one of the best teams playing at home and they've players who just love to play at home. Scoring is something easy for them, specially against power defenses. Toronto has allowed almost 4 goals per game at the road. After they lost in OT at home to Tampa Bay, when they had done a great game, I can't find any edge for Toronto today.

If they play at home and well, Tampa Bay only needs the 2 chances they've got to win the game. At home, where Tampa Bay will dominate and create a lot of opportunities, it will not be for Toronto the best game to avoid a solid defeat.

2009.11.26, 2 picks:

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Ottawa Senators

This will be a match up where the home team will do its straight 6th game at home and they'll host one team that will do their 5th road game in a row.

That spawn of time from both teams show us clearly which are their weak and strong spots. Columbus are allowing 4.14 goals per game during the season at the road. In their last 3 games, they allowed 6.33 goals per game. This is their handicap, they've got a poor defense, where they revealed some strength last year.

So far, this handicap has cost them many wins and they'll probably still struggle on the defense.

Ottawa in their last home games scored 3.80 goals per game and conceded only 2.20 goals per game. They also started this home games series with a loss, scoring only 1 goal and scratching their record for this home games streak. But since then, they've got 4 wins, including a blowout win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

For this game, my angle is simple. Both teams will do their last game as a host (Ottawa) and as a visitor (Columbus). Being clear that the Senators are going through a good moment and have their best players on the offensive line, they can benefit from the fact that the Blue Jackets are having poor performances from their goaltenders and the same can be said for the rest of the players in this road trip as well.

Columbus is already with their mind on the next game, just hoping that this road trip comes to an end as soon as possible, to correct and improve their game at home.

Pick: Ottawa Senators 3Way (1X2) +130 (2.30) Bookmaker, Goalwin

Los Angeles Kings @ Vancouver Canucks

I confess that I didn't expect this line at 5.5 goals. It seems very unlikely that this game is going to have more than 4 goals. Even counting that is normal and frequent to have a late goal, even 5 goals could be a great line and that was the line I expected. But this added 0.5 give us a lot of extra value.

And why is that? Let's combine the LA Kings offense with the Vancouver Canucks defense. Kings at the road, usually scores 2 or less goals. Once in a while they score more goals than usual and that gives them 2.28 goals scored on road. But the Vancouver defense is on fire at home, playing very solid and allowing only 1.82 goals per game.

If we reverse the kind of match up, the Los Angeles Kings are also conceding a low number of goals on the road: 2.82 goals per game. The Canucks, scoring a 3.27 goals per game, have here an edge, but is not enough to give us value to bet on the canadian team.

So, on this game there isn't much more to say. The LA Kings started well the season, and then fell from the top places. The team were in a place that wasn't corresponding to the team's true talent. It will be a surprise to see the californian team fight for this game, as they are without confidence right now.

The Canucks wouldn't surprise if they could get empty nets, it will not be new for them. After a weak start they found their path and today they have to be careful, as they lost 1-0 last game at home. They have to play at their pace and make sure that they can manage the game on their will.

Also curious is the fact that in the last 6 games between these 2 teams, only once they scored more than 5 games and that score had exactly 6 goals. Take the under in this game.

Buffalo Sabres @ Philadelphia Flyers

This game will be played at the afternoon and a lot of people will take the day off to be on the stands supporting the home team. The typical game day on Philadelphia and the Flyers will take advantage of the fact that they will a lot of home supporters rooting for them. We can expect a terrific environment on this game, thanks to the home crowd.

The Sabres are not a reliable team. They can give their best today and their worst tomorrow. It's a team that try hard or just quit the game. At the beginning of the season, they looked great with an 8-2 record. They gave all they got and tried hard.

But then the path was a 4-7 record, being important to mention that they stopped that blowout/easy wins where they showed a complete control of the game. Despite that, Ryan Miller (the goaltender) still shows great performances, but his effort has been untapped by the offense line, who are with a lack of production. Scoring 1.80 goals per game in the last 5 games is a poor production. Even on the road, hitting the nets has been so far a tough job.

The Flyers are a team that i usually write about. Their game is one of the more fascinating in the league. They try to make every single game a great game, giving a show, showing great plays and how should a player be supported by a team player. The work they do every game, trying to help each other on the arena, covering the gaps, is just extraordinary. This fact is easily seen when we see the Flyers in 3rd place on the best offensive teams ranking, and none of their players is in the Top 20 of the best scorers ranking.

They are coming from another bad streak, with a 3 straight losses, but they are showing this season a great management of bad streaks, and are now coming from a loss, after those 3 losses. When they rehab their game, they usually made it well, showing their improvements during more than one game. I hope that this rehab can be translated on an improvement on their offense as well, where they are scoring 2.6 goals per game on the last 5 games, when their season average is around 3.7 goals per game.

So, this game will be once more a festivity on Philadelphia. The team will do the best they know: play it well. The supporters believe that they will watch a great game and leave happy. Flyers are 4-1 in their last 5 games and have besides a full house, a revenge to accomplish. Their last home defeat was against Buffalo and that's reason enough to beat the Sabres without mercy.

Buffalo on the other hand, are passing their worst period on this season, with 4 losses on a road. Their game which has been a supported and a cohesive game (when they play well), is not the kind of game that can shake or cause trouble to the Flyers, as they are very good on that side as well. Today, they will not be able to cope with the avalanche of attacks that Philadelphia will make and Miller will not be their saviour for ever.

Pick: Philadelphia Flyers 3Way (1X2) +125 (2.25) Bookmaker, +120 (2.20) Goalwin

New York Rangers @ Tampa Bay Lightning

This game on the east coast will have great talents on display. Gaborik vs Lecavalier for example. However, it will probably be a one way game only. This teams are showing that they haven't changed much from last season.

Rangers were hot at the start of the season, with 7 straight wins in the 8 first games. Since that, they have only achieved a few wins, and occasionally.

Their main problem is that they depend too much on Gaborik's talent. It's true that he can decide a game alone, he is returning to his best form after a injury season in Minnesota.

But this can't be Rangers' kind of game, even with Gaborik scoring unbelievable goals the team is getting to few wins.Their displays have been awful, showing poor skills on their game. Gaborik being the only decent player out of their incredibly lousy performances, is not enough to keep them on the wins path. They need to improve a lot, they need to start scoring goals without waiting for Gaborik, and keep a good defense in every game, and not just when they remember to do so.

Tampa Bay in other hand is coming from 2 home losses, something unnatural for them. The last defeat was in regular time and it was the first of the season at home in regular time. But who can see here a letdown spot?! I don't understand why the majority of the public is against Tampa Bay on this game. There isn't a letdown spot here. They face losses very well and they can handle blowout losses as well.

Just remember that little road trip some weeks ago, that they were outscored in those 2 games, allowing 11 goals and scored only 2? After that two matches, they played at home against true contenders, San Jose, and had an easy win by 5-2. This could be a letdown spot as well, even with that bad game being on the road, but they were facing a strong team.

This ability to handle losses is mainly due to the fact they've got players that can solve games by themselves. And if one player can solve one game, two players can solve 2... And they've got more than one player to solve this game, players that can get great performances, just if they want to do so.

Hence, for this game I expect Tampa Bay to solve this game quickly. They''ve the talent and are very strong at home, where they can score lots of goals. 3 straight losses at home, it's something that the team can't afford to do, as they are a typical home team that depends too much on the points that they can get at home.

The Rangers will to this game with 2 games won in a row, however this team is a weak minded team, and they can't take the benefits and the strength they should from it. Their game is showing no signs of improvement, and Gaborik cannot save them much longer. The game against Columbus is not reliable to dissect the Rangers, as they won mostly by demerit of the Blue Jackets. Considering all this, taking Tampa Bay seems to be the best play and I believe that they could win this game easily.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ New York Rangers

It couldn't be easier to explain the value on this one. Two days ago, the
Washington Capitals @ Carolina Hurricanes: Under 6 -105 (1.95) Bookmaker

Pittsburgh Penguins @ New York Rangers: Over 5.5 -120 (1.83) Bookmaker
Rangers went to Pittsburgh. What happened? Blow out loss for the Ranger with a 8-3 result. Could it be a better training for the Penguins? Probably not, they scored a lot, they made a great game and are ready to face the Rangers on the road, knowing how they can score.

The Rangers are facing problems. It seems like last year, a team with value and expectations throwing all away. Talent isn't enough to win games and there is no group of supporters that understand this so well as the Rangers fans

In their last game, they won 7-4 against Columbus, another great exhibition for Gaborik, but they can't live for ever this way. Their win had few important things to mention, Columbus had an awful night and Gaborik can still make the difference. However, we can't expect that the Rangers will still be able to improve at home. They had a great moment when the season started, but since then the only way they know is the way down. This team needs to improve their mental condition, just round up all the players and go to the psychotherapist.

Pittsburgh after a bad moment when they faced injury problems, hitting key players and almost half of the team, are again on the right road. Their ability his enormous, with Crosby and Malkin leading their offensive line. After they improved their performance after the return of the recovered players, it's now time to improve their road games, which has been weak in recent games and shouldn't be, as they aspire to win Stanley Cup, and as true contenders they should have the ability to win games in any place.

Scoring his not a problem for the Penguins. Their defense seems to have improved since they had all their defense players available again. It's now time to prove it, against a team that only know how to beat the minnows, with problems concerning their attitude. The last game for these teams was a match up between both teams, but in Pittsburgh instead of New York. 8-3 was the result for the home team and it was a great training session for the Penguins, that had those 60 minutes to improve their skills to beat the Rangers. Even with Lundqvist on the nets it's hard to see the victory escaping the Penguins.

Colorado Avalanche @ Tampa Bay Lightning

For this match up, we can easily say that a team with a letdown spot after a great start of the season, will face another team that makes their home games, their winning games, creating difficulties for those who want to leave their arena with the points.

Colorado is struggling and facing a letdown spot. In their last 10 games, they are 2-8 and none of their wins was easy to achieve. It's a big contrast with their record at the beginning of the season, 11-5. Perhaps the key for those games was Andersen, their goaltender. But his best performances were not so regular as before and looking for his last game, with a 0.944% on saves, it appears to be unlikely for him to maintain his form.

In his last games, after a game where he saved 0.9% or more, he usually struggles with his worst performances. On the offense, the Avalanche are scoring 2.60 goals per game on the road, however they are having peaks in their last games which creates cheating deviations on the stats. They are having several games with only 2 goals scored, 3 at most.

Tampa Bay is a home based team. Their season depends on it as they are much stronger at home than on road. At home they can beat anyone, on the road they struggle to win, even against the worst team. The Lightning had 2 straight losses at home and their loss against Toronto in their last but one home game, was the first home loss in regular time. After that, they gave a blow out win to Rangers and showed that they can be recommended as a team to follow when playing at home, because their home advantage his huge, and scoring only 3 goals at home can be considered a bad day.

Due to their great offensive players with a innate talent to score, this team has great ease to score at home. At home, this punch of great and talented offensive players can transcend everyone expectations and unfortunately this only happens at home, proving the theory of "home-based team". In their last 3 home games, 2 losses to the Lightning's record can only add wins in the next games.

Colorado shouldn't be a team to fear and they won't be hard on Tampa Bay, whose offense will create enough plays to score easily. Take Tampa Bay on regular time.

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Chicago Blackhawks

For this match up, Chicago is a big favourite. This should be an easy win due to the fact that Columbus went down in their performances and Chicago pulled up their game.

Columbus after a great start of the season with a 5-1 record, are now 1-5 in L6. The team had a win in their last game, but it seems that isn't enough to get their confidence higher. After 2 home games, they will play this solo road game against one of the hottest teams in this moment. Being a back-to-back game, Columbus isn't fresh as they should be to fight for this game. Yesterday they fought hard to get their win against St. Louis and it wasn't an easy game despite the 5-2 end result.

Without time to rest they shouldn't be able to play their best game and they'll probably just try to leave Chicago without a blow out loss. In their last games, their weakest point has been their defense, allowing 3.80 goals per game.

Chicago started on their last home games a win streak. 8-0 was the result, when they were about to return home. But after 4 wins on the road, they went down in the last 2. Now, they're with 2 straight losses and it hasn't happened this season (yet) a 3 straight losses for this team. They play a great hockey, showing strong ability to score and have great talented players on their roster.

Their confidence despite the 2 losses is good because they know that they can do anything, play great and win over any team. Their defense has been quite good in their last games, allowing 1.60 goals per game. Their offense as done their part as well, scoring 3.23 goals per game at home.

So, the B2B effect will probably be felt by the Columbus players, they're in a letdown spot, and it will not be a win against a normal team to pull them up. Today, they will play against one of the most cohesive teams, who are playing a great game. It's hard to think that Chicago will let this win pass, as they also need it.

Ottawa Senators @ San Jose Sharks

The odds for this match up give us a great advantage for taking the Sharks. San Jose has all the edges on this game, in offense, defense, PK, PP and so on.

Therefore, this is not a sure game because in NHL anything can happen, however the odds aren't so low as I expect them to be.

Ottawa is a nice team that has a few talent players. Their main problem is that they are old and aren't reliable for many straight games. Right now, they're 5-2 with the 2 losses on road. So it seems that they're in a good moment and that's true, however that good moment won't last much longer.

In the start of the season that was visible. After a 5-2 winning record, they went to a losing 2-4 record. And so far, the 5-2 has been their best streak. At the beginning of the season, i believed that the achievement of that record was easy and now, the 5-2 streak is hard to get and even harder to improve.

San Jose, at least for me, is one of the biggest contenders to the Stanley Cup. Their game is solid and cohesive, they're great in both sides of the field, allowing 2.20 goals per game and scoring 3.30 goals per game. They had a loss on their last home game, but after that, they had 2 road games, and both of them were a winning game. Hence, it's not a question of when will they win their games, but when will they be with the right mode. Because stopping this team is something hard to do if San Jose wants to.

I expect some facilities for the Sharks, they are a good and solid team that needs to win this game. The Senators can't play at the same pace of the Sharks and at some point, Ottawa will not be able to maintain the scoreboard even.

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Boston Bruins

For this game, we can expect the public to be with us. After all, Boston Bruins is one of the biggest public teams on NHL. But that's not the only reason to see a Boston Bruins' odds drop.

Tampa Bay is a home-based team. It's hard for this team to win games on the road, with a 4-5 record. This record will be much more negative as we move on in the league. They usually start with poor performances on the road and I can't see them to improve it on this mini road trip. They are passing by bad moment in this season, as they are struggling in their game, making only a few great games.

Even when their stars do their job, usually the defenders don't go along with them. Their defenders have been very poor so far, allowing more than 3 goals per game on the road.

Boston is again on the right road. After they struggled in a period of this season, they are back as we expected. Their defense as been quite solid, the only solid part of their game this season so far. They are just allowing 1.60 goals per game at home, and they don't fear any offensive team. Their offense has improved a lot in their last games, after Savard returned to the team. He has done the difference after his return and has now made an agreement for a 7 year extend contract. His confidence should be great now and will probably show it today, that he deserves the new contract.

So, we have one of the strongest teams returning to their best performances. They are very strong on defense, specially at home, and they'll probably knock out the strongest part of the Tampa Bay game. If the Boston defenders stop Tampa Bay offensive players, it will be a blow out loss to Tampa for sure, as they aren't able to stop anyone. Savard will probably exploit that fact and I expect the Bruins to get one of their biggest wins so far.

Nashville Predators @ Minnesota Wild

This match up offer us a great odds value! As we can see, Nashville is the dog here. But it's home advantage so strong?

Nashville is a hot team right now. After the 3-7 that opened this season, they are 12-4. Between this streak, they achieved 7 straight wins!

So, they are in the right mood. But in their last game, they lost at home with a blowout loss, 0-5. Can they manage this? Line makers don't believe so. But I believe that they can skip that loss and keep the good work they are developing.

Be aware that after they struggled in the start of the season, they had wins as dogs after games where they were out shooted. It happened twice and in both times, they achieved a victory as dogs in the next games. And both games were on the road!

Minnesota has been disappointing so far. With a negative record of 10-12, this team is still chasing a 3 straight wins streak. This team seems to be lost, struggling on every game. Few of their wins were good, has they appear to achieve more wins due to opponents' demerit. It's true that this team is another home-based team in this league, but only one of those wins were against hot teams.

For this game, Minnesota might have Havlat returning, but he still has to improve in order to be the player that we all expect. Even with his return, the team has several players out, and there is a rumour that A flu has stroked another player besides Mietinnen. Mietinnen is expected to play today, however he needs more time to return to his good form.

For this game, I can see Wild as favourites. They are a home base team, but they are struggling so hard for they third straight win, that they will be probably too nervous. The fact that they have several players questionable for today, removes some strength and depth to their roster. Nashville on the other hand, can handle a loss in this game if that happens, it will not interrupt their good moment, and knowing that Minnesota will probably be nervous and will commit some errors, the Predators can take advantage of it and win this game.

This match up will be used by the Flyers to try to rehab their game. Is a fact that Philadelphia have facilities to score, and today they will face a team that plays likes them, always forward. So we can expect a great match up between these two teams.

Vancouver still have the reliability or consistency problem. This team can play a great game, scoring lots of goals, and lose the next game to a poor team. However at this moment, they seem to go through a good moment, scoring 3.60 goals per game. They are in back-to-back game, but have played yesterday in New Jersey and won that contest by easy numbers, 5-2.

Hence, their confidence should be also great for this game too and is not the fact of this being a B2B game that will frighten them. This is their 6th B2B game in this season.

Philadelphia is passing their worst period on this season. The 1-5 record in L6 makes it clear. However this team has a huge sacrifice spirit and a lot of heart and even with some injuries, they have abilities to win any game. This team is one of the best scoring teams and has the particularity of having no one on the top scorers list, as in this team every men in any position takes the shot when it's possible. This team at home is also scoring a 3.60 goals per game average.

So, in this contest we can expect lots of goals. The Flyers will try to win this game with everything they've got, but the Canucks are in a great "momentum" and will try to equalize the scoreboard as many times as they have to. So, this appears to be an easy over, take this one.

Montreal Canadiens @ Buffalo Sabres

This can be a long shot, but it's impossible to let it pass, the odds are higher than it should be. Montreal, for the second time this season, pays ahead of 3.00. Last week in Pittsburgh, they were with 3.30 odds.

Today, they are around 3.00 also. This team, with a 2.80 went to Washington and won that game. So, it's not so impossible to them.

And after all, U.S. sports unpredictability are well known because everything can happen. But both these teams have one thing in common. Buffalo went to Toronto last game to win 3-0. Montreal hosted Toronto in their last game, losing 3-0. But this is nothing on NHL.

Buffalo is doing a remarkable season so far. But they are also starting to show signs that they are not a reliable team. The defeat they had at home against Florida was a sign. They started there a 4 losses streak. But the truth is, so far this team as been impressive, playing a good game in most of the matches, achieving a 15-7 record. They will start here a series of home games and they have all confidence to start it well.

Montreal is a struggling team. So far, their efforts to turn things around failed, but they can't quit. They have so many supporters, which makes them one of the most important teams on NHL. And if isn't enough to keep trying a positive record, they also have a talented roster. The results have been intermittent so far, and they are now with 3 straight losses, making this streak their second worst of the season. And sometimes they show that they keep trying to get better results, like when they went to Boston and won that game, or when they went to Washington and won it too, for example.

Hence, for this game we have to take this long shoot. It's true that the Sabres are much better so far, and they also play at home. But we can't underestimate the Canadiens roster. They've the talent to do here a nice surprise and with Price on the nets, it's a conscious and calculated risk. Carey Price, the Canadiens goaltender, is the man that can defend impossible shoots if he wants to. Sometimes he makes a incredible performance, and let's hope that today is one of those days, so he can make a difference on our side.

Tampa Bay Lightning @ New Jersey Devils

The fact that New Jersey is 9-1 against the Lightning straight up proves how easy is for the Devils to play against this Tampa Bay team.

Incredible is how much money they gave to those that risked on them against the puck line, as they are also 9-1 against the spread! For a team that wins so many games against another team just by one goal, it's something odd.

But right now, the Devils are 3-1 at home in the last 4 games, with those 3 wins covering the spread. I believe that it's time to turn off the profit that bettors are getting when they risk in Devils' handicaps.

As I'm always saying, Tampa Bay is a home team. They are 2-4 in L6 road games, with one win in OT. In those losses, two defeats were by 2 and 3 goals. Their negative record on the road is something that will likely get worst as we move on to the end of the season. 2.21 goals per game is what they score on the road so far, as this team can't find the button to make their best players getting good performances in their away games. And the truth is, they depend a lot on Lecavalier and St Louis, who are fundamental pieces of this team, and they only have 5 goals each this season. Stamkos and Malone are trying to carry the team, but are struggling at the moment.

New Jersey after recovering Elias is playing a great game. Their record is great, with 17-7 and standing up for a contenders call. They lost their last game by 2-5 at home against the Canucks, but the result doesn't reflect what happened on that game. This team is successfully avoiding two straight losses at home since their first two games, and will probably avoid today another straight loss. In their last 5 games, they are scoring 3 goals per game, and with Brodeur on the nets, who is allowing a 2.18 goals per game average, the team has a solid game, with good defense and offense.

Hence for this game, I can't see Tampa Bay surviving it. For Lightning this game will be like ******** and they will probably spare themselves for tomorrow game at home. The Devils will make an effort to avoid another straight loss at home, and even without that effort they should easily win this match up.

Anaheim Ducks @ Minnesota Wild

Today, we will have a match up between a good home team and a bad road team.

Anaheim is returning to the road games after 7 games at home. This team has failed every opportunities to get a good streak. The Ducks are far to be reliable to risk and have started this road trip with a loss, allowing Dallas to have a comeback.

On the road Anaheim is conceding 3.22 goals per game and scoring only 2.44 goals per game. This shows how poor is their game away from home and with almost 2 months since the last road win, there is no way to improve when they play a B2B game on road.

Minnesota had a slow start of the season with a 3-9 record. Even with that record, they are almost positive and that's because they are not struggling so much at home as it seems. They are a home team and basically depend on those games to achieve some wins. It seems hard to believe, but they are 8-3 at home and are passing one of the best moments of the season, with 3 straight wins. One of their secrets is that Backstrom, their goaltender, is making great performances at home and we can't expect from him no less than that today, as he's one of the best goaltenders on the league.

It's hard to see Minnesota end this game without a win. Anaheim is going through a rough patch and probably the team doesn't even remember their last road win. Their confidence for this match up should be down and the fact of being a B2B game, doesn't give them time to digest the last loss, after they lead the game for about 40 minutes. Minnesota can't leave this moment escape, and they should give their best on this game today, as they are stronger at home.

Atlanta Thrashers @ Toronto Maple Leafs

This match up has these odds due to some opinions that seem wrong to me. The edge is on Atlanta side and these odds makes them the underdog.

Atlanta is a middle table team, however they're in the race for the playoffs for sure. Is their goal and I believe that they'll accomplish it. This team counts with Kovalchuk, who's one of the best players on NHL and he alone can make the difference. Even so, this team can handle things with Kovaluchuk off the ice. But the interesting point is that the Trashers are a road team. At home, their record is 6-6, they're not quite strong at home and it seems that they will not get the most of their points at home.

It is on the road where they can take advantage of their offense power. Their record so far is 9-2 on the road and I believe that record will increase today. With 3.33 goals scored on the road, this team shows their full potential, making them the worst team you can host in the NHL.

Toronto was a few days ago the worst team on NHL. But as i said before, this team has a well handle structure in every level, which gives them the stability required to get some results. And it did work. This team is 5-3 L8 and I'll take my chances to say that putting Gustavsson on the starting role made the difference. This is the only goaltender on this team with a positive record of 6-5, winning 6 of the 8 wins of the team.

Underestimating his importance can be hard, and with him out of the game for a week or more, can be tough for the team. In their first game, the team handle it well, with a win against Columbus. However that win hardly established if Toronto had any merit at all. In their last road game, they lost 7-2 with Boston, a team that has struggled a lot on offense lately.

So, I can't expect this team to return home and win this game, as they aren't quite confident and I believe that they also know that Gustavsson is an important key player for their wins. Atlanta is strong on the road and against a team with a bad record, that is trying to get out of the hole they have dug, I can't see how the visitors will give them a hand, but only to kick them out to the bottom again.

Philadelphia Flyers @ Montreal Canadiens

We have to try to take advantage of mental issues. This is gonna be a match up which will meltdown the ice as we can't expect no less than a win for both teams. I will not use any trends or stats to sustain this play. Only recent issues and last games that these teams played.

Starting with Montreal, this team are labeling their playoffs as questionable. The team was late to start their engines, and when they start up, the engine just can't work for long time and shutdown suddenly.

However, they are a important team in NHL, traditionally contenders at least to the playoffs and have this year an interesting roster even with the poor production.

So, this team isn't achieving better results only because of them, as they can and should be more comfortable about their results. It's important to know that this team can improve and a good result can make the difference to turn things around. And that result could be the last one, where they won against Boston (5-1), a nice result at home before hosting Flyers.

Philadelphia is going through a tough moment. They fired their coach and gave to the new one the worst welcome possible, a 8-2 loss at home! A 1-6 run gave John Stevens the pink slip, but this team before that run was playing a great game, which for me, makes this decision a little bit wrong or at least too soon. This team had extreme particularities that makes it hard to the new coach to adjust this team to a new kind of game. And that was easily seen when they lost at home against the Capitals (2-8).

They'll struggle only one game? Probably not, they'll need more time to understand the new vision of the game that they have to approach. And that will make this team lose time for the playoffs race, but that's not my decision. Despite this, another piece of bad news was disclosed to the public. Pronger, their best transfer for this year, and probably their best player so far this season, is having problems with Mike Richards, the supporters' hero and team's goalscorer. This can damage a lot this team, even when Richards came to public declaring that it was false news.

So, we have lots of problems on this team for now. Despite how much I enjoy the Flyers game, this play is hard to skip. Montreal can take all the advantage here.

Ottawa Senators @ Philadelphia Flyers

Both teams have the some number of victories. A positive record so far for these teams, however, most of the wins were at home for both. Even with a little advantage because of home spot, this teams are passing bad moments on this season right now.

Ottawa are 1-5 in L6. Their worst losing streak. Perhaps an eventual consequence due to an old roster? The truth is that this team have lost their last home at home against a rival. They suffered one stupid goal that set their lost, and it was a result of a poor confidence, and that mistake will only make them dig more. At road they are a poor team, allowing almost the double than they can score.

Philadelphia were passing through a really bad moment, and as a result, the coach was fired. The new coach have a different kind of game, and the team struggled a lot in the first two game, to understand what the new coach wanted. However, in their last game (at home), the team finally managed the game as the coach planned. The players are trying to pass the bad phase giving all they can, and trying to prove that the news about problems between players were false.

I can't expect no less than a win to Flyers today, They have to show that they can keep the pace they showed last game. First to make the fun return to the arena, and second to prove to the new coach that he can count on them. Hosting a team with a poor road record and passing their worst moment of the season, can be the perfect them to make the joy return to Philadelphia. Despite the bad recent results, Ottawa is a team with a positive record, and with more points than Flyers.

Pick: Philadelphia Flyers 3Way (1X2) -105 (1.95) Bookmaker, Goalwin

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Boston Bruins

This will be a game between the two most improving teams this month. Toronto finally started to have regularly wins, and Bruins finally achieve more than one win in a row.

Toronto had a 3-17 record since the start of the season, but since that record they are 7-3. They really turned things up, and that's something I expected, as this team is one of the most solid teams beyond the players. However, I consider also that Gustavsson were the key to turn things, as this rookie were the starter in the nets in the 3 first wins during that rough start of the season. Since that, we were the goaltender as well when the team turned things up. It's true that since his injure, the team still winning games, however they aren't so solid, and their wins are not as easy and unquestionable as before. On the road, they are 4-1 in L5, amazing results, but most of the teams they faced were soft on defense. They are not good on defense, but they are make up their efforts on offense, usually scoring more than the opponents.

Boston his finally the team that we all expected! The best team on regular season in last year are finally showing their game, allowing few goals per game, and taking all the opportunities they got to score. The return of Savard has ended a losing streak for the team, who had struggled a lot in the beginning of the season. The injuries of some key players made Bruins a weird team, as they are a good defense in that spawn, but their offense didn't produce anything, having few games without any goal scored. But that problems are now treaty, and the team is showing a great game and trying to cover the lost time they had lost to playoffs.

Few days ago, Boston hosted Toronto. Easy win by 7-2. It was an opportunity to Boston study the weak points of Toronto. Since that game, Boston didn't play any game, but Toronto hosted Trashers and Islanders yesterday. So, it will be a B2B game for Toronto, and will return to Boston where they had a ******** day 5 days ago. It's hard to see other outcome than the some kind of result. Boston defending well, and taking advantage on Toronto weak defense.

This will be a game where the public will push the odds down for our side. So, I advise you all to bet as soon as you can if you wish to bet on this one.

Dallas are in the run for playoffs, but they can't aspire to much more. This team have some talents that once in a while make the difference, but the fact that they only make the difference once in a while show that this team is not reliable. They play their games hoping that someone got some inspiration to make that difference. Their defense is soft particularly on the road. Their game is based in scoring more than the opponents, and sometimes their opponents have a strong offensive line to smash this kind of game.

San Jose are one of the favourites to Stanley Cup. However, they are having a bad run right now, with 3 straight losses at home and 2 of them in OT. Strange run for this team, that is now 8-2 at home. In L5 at home, this team is in 1-4, and this is a warning sign. If they want to be contenders to Stanley Cup, they can't have these kind of streak at home. They have a great roster, there is no key players with injuries, and the ability to turn things as soon as possible.

Despite the bad moment, I belive that Sharks will take advantage on this game as soon as possible. They will keep a high pace on the game to control better the game and hoping that a big win could give them more confidence. The fact that Stars are a non reliable team that struggles against offensive power teams make this a good spot for us.

Florida Panthers @ New York Islanders

For this match up, both teams have several injuries. However, none is a key player, so we can expect for this game the best that rosters got to offer.

Florida is one team that got their momentum 2 weeks ago. This team is one of the poorest on NHL, concerning to talent. They can play hard, with all they got, as they did in several games in November. However, that wasnīt the reality of the team, and it will be hard for them to get a spot on playoffs despite the 12-14 record they got right now.

Islanders were the worst team last season, and that give them the right to pick the firs player on the draft. So, this year, we have the young players from last season and the first draft pick, Tavares. Despite they struggled in the start of the season, this team have lotīs of talent, and when the wins finally appear, this team achieved regular wins.

This match up will be decided in details, and those details will be the home advantage and the young players talent. If Islanders finally learn to deal with the lack of experience, Panthers can overwhelm themselves to deal with lack of talent. So both teams will fight for this game, but I believe on the kids, as they have already show that they can be mature.

Pick: New York Islanders 3Way (1X2) +110 (2.10) Bookmaker, +115 (2.15) Goalwin

Atlanta Thrashers @ New York Rangers

I wonder if we should count with home advantage for this game. Atlanta has better record on the road than Rangers at home. With 9-5 on road, Atlanta is a road team that have no fear to face the games even against the public. 7-8 is a negative record, and Rangers are showing some problems and are with 3 losses in a row at home.

Atlanta is a solid team. They just play manage the game on their own, being solid on defense and offense. Even when the games are very balanced, Kovalchuk appears and solve the problem. A solid and cohesive team, allowing only 2.80 goals on the road and scoring 3.00 goals on the road as well, is a positive way to face the games.

Rangers are passing a letdown spot. Their game is just poor, that canīt play as a team, and desperate for Gaborik inspiration. However he can't solve anything alone. One of those signs is that the team is scoring only 1.60 goals per game in last five.

Rangers have to wait for a team that struggles on offense to turn things. However they will face one solid team with Kovalchuk, one of the best players of NHL. We can score one goal at any moment, and itīs hard to imagine Trashers leave New York without goals scored. Having problems in their defense as well as their offensive, opens a window to Atlanta win this game. With these high odds, we have the value that we need.

NHL 2009.12.17, first pick:

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Philadelphia Flyers: Philadelphia Flyers ML -105 (1.95) The Greek

Recently I covered the previous match between these teams. That match ended 6-1 for the Penguins but this time the Flyers play on their home ice. The Penguins deserved their win, taking more shots and shooting with greater efficiency. In a hard game featuring plenty of fights the Flyers failed to take their chances.

Today, I expect Philadelphia to approach the game differently. Their new coach is focused more on scoring than fighting so they should spend far more time on the ice rather than looking on from the penalty box. Although the Penguins have great offensive players capable of scoring anytime, they haven't played as well lately. I expect the Flyers to win at home.

NHL 2009.12.18, final 2 picks:

Washington Capitals @ Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver will host today Washington. It's like one hot team facing one burning team.

Since Ovechkin returned, Washington is giving blow out wins every other day. It's simple for them, as they play a great offensive game with several awesome players. They are 8-2 in last 10, and are a team with an average of 3.60 goals scored. It's also their 8 road game in 10 games, and will be the last but one before going home. They will have another game tomorrow, but they know that the hard game is today, and they will not be spared.

Vancouver is another offensive team, scoring 3.10 goals per game. They still chasing a good streak as they are in a good form but failing in some few games. The 7-4 record last 11 are not bad, but it's incredible to see that some of the losses were against weaker teams.

For this game, Washington is on advantage. Their roster is much more, and are the masters in the kind of game that Vancouver play. Vancouver is a team that take the chance to control the game when some team give it. However, Washington is a team that like to enter the game controlling, scoring soon, and i expect that will be hard to Vancouver to recover and keep the scoreboard equalize.

Pick: Washington Capitals 3Way (1X2) +135 (2.35) Bookmaker, +145 (2.45) Goalwin

Boston Bruins @ Chicago Blackhawks

This will be a nice matchup. I will take Boston that are with great value, and it's not so hard as it seems, even going against the strong Blackhawks.

Boston is a team with a good roster, very balanced, that were disappointing in the first 2 months. One of the reasons why people believed in them is because they have maintained almost all their players from the last season. And if you remember, Bruins were the best regular season team by far last year.

About Blackhawks is not much to say. They are playing very well, and they earn their record of 21-8. They are playing most of the games at home, were they are 14-3, and this shows how big they are at home. They are allowing only 0.80 goals per game in last five games, and that shows a great improvement on their defense, but their last 4 games were to easy. Their strong is on their offensive line, where they have great players.

So, it seems a easy play to Blackhawks. After all, they are playing a great hockey, and have much more points in the league than Bruins. They are also one of the best home teams, with a impressive record of 14-3. However, it's not so simple. Bruins are growing and improving a lot since last month. They are trying to reach the same level they had last season. They got almost the same players (but all the key players), and come out of Chicago last season with a win. In the last 3 matchups in Chicago between both teams, Bruins only loss one in OT. With the value that oddsmakers offers, Bruins is the play here.

ATTENTION: Chicago Blackhawks 3Way (1X2) -125 (1.80) Goalwin or higher offers more odds value than CHI PL -1.5. The Blackhawks should win this on regulation time, so if you can get at least -125 (1.80) or better odds, for example -115 (1.87), go ahead and risk 1 NHL unit. Otherwise, you might just play one unit on CHI PL or if you're using Bookmaker, you can do this:

Imagine that your NHL unit is $100. Risk $60 3Way (1X2) on CHI -135 (1.74) Bookmaker and risk $40 on the CHI PL +140. If the 3Way wins but the PL loses, both bets will even/cancel out each other and you end up with +$4.44. If both plays win, you get +$100.4. If you can get 1.87 odds on the CHI 3Way, you win +$87. Those were the odds I've got on Pinnacle. :)

Nashville Predators @ Vancouver Canucks

Both teams will play their last game before Christmas. The goal for all players in this time of the year is to meet their family, something that the Predators wish more than Vancouver, as the Nashville team will play the last of their 3 road games series, and the Canucks will play their 7th straigh home game.

The Predators have a good record, with 5 wins in a row. They are playing well and they are a good home team and strong on the road as well.

The Canucks are also playing a nice hockey game, and losing few games once a while.

At home they are strong and when they are concentrated, they are hard to beat, particulary at home. The key for this game is that the Canucks defense is much better than Predators.

Despite the good streak that the Predators are coming from, it is quite probable that they will not be able to keep it their good moment on today's game, as they are already thinking in returning home to their familys, and will not be focused to win this game as they should.

On the other hand, the Vancouver team doesn't have that need since they had play all their last games at home and they are confortable close with their families and that in this time of the year is a very nice asset.

The Canucks are focused in winning this game and after a bad loss in the last game, they'll today work hard to achieve a win before the holidays, and they've got the power to do so, because if they want to do it, they are better in offense as well in defense than the Predators.

Florida Panthers @ New York Rangers

This matchup will be the last game for both teams before Christmas pause. Panthers will play the last game in this 3 game roadtrip. Probably their thinkings will be more concentrated to end the game to go home than to win the game. Rangers will play at home after 3 road games.

Florida have been a team quite good. They just can be unpredictable, because their will to win is always the same and they give their best all the time. When they face easy teams or teams that make the wrong approach to the game, they win. If they are improving their offense game after game, their defense is going in the reverse way.

Rangers is the kind of team that we have to treat as kids. If they are without the mood, they just clap their feats and doesn't even try to win the game. And they had it for many games, and after so long, the rehab seems more difficult. However, in their last roadtrip, they won all the 3 games in regular time! For a team with the talent that Rangers got, with good players and one of the best players in NHL, this can be the trigger to return to good and consistence performances.

I believe that Rangers will make their best to end well before Christmas. They already returned home, and will play at home. Florida will have to still one more day, after 2 road games, far from home. They are better than Rangers in only one thinking, the way they approach the games. However, today, Rangers will probably make their best, and having a better roster, will be difficult to Panthers. Without a good defense and facing a great goaltender, it's unlikely to Panthers stay even close. Rangers are improving a lot particularly in their defense, as they offense can be hot if they wish so.

Pick: New York Rangers PL -1.5 +180 (2.80) Bookmaker

Buffalo Sabres @ Washington Capitals

This matchup is a perfect spot for a revenge game. More or less 15 days ago, Capitals went to Buffalo and leave the city with a loss, but more important, leave the city without any scored goal for the first time this season! One of those days that there is nothing to do. Capitals controlled the game, had more shots, but lost.

Sabres are marking a remarkable season so far. This team has been solid, cohesive, and reliable again. They start the season in the same way, but have passed for a troubled period, but are being again a reliable team. The question is: how long will they keep it? After went to OT in their last 2 games, and lost 2 in last 4 games, the team is starting to showing again some inconsistence. Their franchise player is doubtful for today.

Capitals are a true contenders, and are going through a good period after a weak start. In their last game, they went to So to win that game, and the 2 times that happened this season at home, they won by 2 or more the next home game. This team is incredible strong and balanced, having great player, but i have to highlight Ovechkin, who is probably the best NHL player right now.

In Washington is hard to see a team that have some weak points and lack of confidence taking a victory. Most important, it's hard to imagine Capitals, giving any space to bread to Sabres, has they want revenge from the last game in Buffalo, and when Capitals wants something, it's unlike to contradict them.

Boston Bruins @ Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa Bay had a 1-10 run in their last 15 games, but had 3 wins in their last 4 games. Perhaps some officials voices can say that they are coming off their letdown spot. But I think that they only had some energy to waste after Christmas and won in home the last game, the real good win, even with a 6-3 in St. Louis. But their energy isn't enough for some teams, such as Bruins. Their defense sucks, and they are depending in the inspiration of their offensive players. The fact is that this team is allowing more than 3.20 goals lately, and have always problems against team that defend well and take their chances in offense.

Bruins are finally in the right path and are runners to playoff. Their late start doesn't give them easy games, as they have to win all the games they can. Despite a 0-4 run some games ago (which they already bounced back), they lost 2 of those in OT, and it was a little bit of bad luck that they turned off in the next games. This team is one of the best concerning to defense, and since the return of Savard they aren't struggling anymore in their offense.

Today in this matchup it will be a game where the Bruins defense will be the edge. They can stop easily Tampa Bay offense, as they aren't exactly a good offensive team, they are more a team with good offensive players that can make some on their own. But against Bruins, that it's hard to happen, as Bruins will not let any inspiration hit those players. And with a bad defense from Tampa Bay, it's likely to see Bruins score enough goals to win this in regular time.

Pick: Boston Bruins 3Way (1X2) +130 (2.30) Diamond (DSI), Goalwin

Phoenix Coyotes @ San Jose Sharks

This game will be a matchup between first and second of Pacific conference. Against a direct opponent, with Sharks in first with only 3 more points, this teams will not make it easier for sure. They had 5 days with only one game and no key injuries, so they will be in full strength.

Coyotes are making a great season, exceeding the expectations of everyone. Their key is a good defense, as they are one of the best defenders team, and it's their advantage in the games. Doan and Upshall are so far their best players. This team had not a bad period this season, as they are being very balanced, without bad streaks. However I can't believe that this team will keep this until the end of the season, and after the Christmas break, I suspect that a letdown spot will arrive soon.

Sharks passed a letdown spot. 5 games in a row without a win! But this team is one of the biggest contenders to Stanley Cup. They are one of the most talented team, with great players in many positions. They ally a good offense, tremendous offensive to be honest, with a good defense. Since the letdown they are 4-0, and they doesn't allow more than 2 goals in that time, and only in one game (in Chicago), they failed to won by 2 or more goals.

It will be a game where Sharks will give all they got. They can't let Coyotes pass them in the standings, and jeopardy their position in playoffs. And if they give all they got, it will be hard to Coyotes to defend, even if they are a good defenders. But that's not all. Sharks are able to stop Coyotes offense as well. This will be a hard game, and Coyotes despite a good season, are not a team to handle this kind of game.

NHL 2009.12.29, final 2 picks:

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Buffalo Sabres

Ten days ago, in their last road game, Penguins went to Buffalo to return with a win in OT. Today, we have a equal matchup, as Penguins will go again to Buffalo.

For me, Penguins are more reliable on the road. At least with odds value, as they can win more games on the road an usually have better odds. Penguins are the actual champions and are again contenders to win. One thing that got to know very well to be champions again, it's no learn and improve from recent and equal matchups. It's what will happen tonight. This team got very talent, with Malkin and Crosby, and without any surprise, this team can win any game.

Sabres are making a great season, being strong at home with a 12-5 record. However, they lost the 2 last games at home, including the one to penguins. Despite they can show a good game particularly at home, this team aren't able to face a power offensive teams, as they support their defense as well to win the game. They are always able to score their goals, but needs a strong defense to hold the opponents. Against teams with all starts in offense, players that can with inspiration score even with without being look on.

So, if Penguins really wish to be a contenders, can make the some mistakes they made 10 days ago. They have here a chance to show that they can improve and be betters, and can't miss this one.

Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins 3Way (1X2) +135 (2.35) Bookmaker, +140 (2.40) Goalwin

Columbus Blue Jackets @ New York Islanders

Columbus lost is defense efficiency from last year. This year they are a poor team, playing a poor game, even with a good start. They had 9 games in a row with losses but won last game, yesterday, in Detroit. A strange and tired game, has they went to OT without any goal scored in the game. Despite the 15-18 record, just remember they had a good start, has they are 1-9 in last 10, and with 1.80 goals scored for 3.00 allowed in that time.

Islanders are a youth team that can make good thins when they wish so. They aren't much reliable as a team, because one day they can play an awesome game and won against a contender, and the next game they can lost to the last team in the standings. However, they usually accomplish their goals when they faces a team with a poor defense. Islanders are with 2.39 goals scored at home and 2.67 allowed, it's a negative record, but that is because they can be outscored in some game.

Columbus despite the won in OT last night, isn't enough to turn things, as this is their lone away game this week, and will probably get home, rest and try to cheer up. They are defending badly, something that will give an edge to Islanders, with their young and power forwards. Their offense have no effects in these days, something that will give no problem to Islanders as well.

Philadelphia Flyers @ New York Rangers: Philadelphia Flyers 3Way (1X2) +145 (2.45) Bookmaker, +155 (2.55) Goalwin

Montreal Canadiens @ Tampa Bay Lightning

Despite a 1-10 streak in last games, Tampa were able to turn things. They are now 4-1 in last 5 game an re-gain their offensive power. This team had a bad streak without a doubt, but this his a home team that have to fight for every home game, in order to keep achieving victories. And at home, the most important for them is that their offensive mens are able to score. In their last games, we saw that these mens are with confidence again.

Montreal his a no reliable team. After a 3-9 streak, they are now 4-1. At the road, they are 10-10, but their last 4 wins were on road, resulting in a big jump made by Montreal in road games. This team already made us think that they could get a great streak, but their are always thrown down in the middle, as they keep making better negative streaks than positive. They got some talents, but sometimes they just struggle to much in offense.

For this matchup, we have to go with home team. This is a B2B game for both teams, and it that condition, Tampa are 5-0 this season. They are a home-based team, and can't let pass anymore wins. Montreal after a good streak, is expectable a bad one.

Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning PL -1.5 +250 (3.50) Bookmaker

Atlanta Thrashers @ Boston Bruins

Trashers are passing their worst moment in this season so far. With 5 straight losses, they are in the middle of a roadtrip with 9 games. They started this roadtrip exactly where they will play today, Boston, with a 4-6 loss. Without any edge, as they will play against a contender and strong team, this matchup aren't favorable to them. Their confident needs a good game, and this roadtrip it will be hard for them, and they probably have to wait until the end of the roadtrip to put their confidence up. This team aren't playing bad, as they keep the offensive exactly as before, however their defense has gone, allowing 4.40 goals per game lately.

Bruins have recovered the lost points in the beginning of the season, and are now in the fight for playoff access. Their last loss at home in regular time was in middle November, and this team are making their home advantage something big. With a great defense, they had their boost with the return of Savard, and now, they got the same team that won the regular season last year. The capacity of this team his huge, as they can play as a team pretty well. They are only allowing 1.80 goals lately.

Today we will have again a matchup exactly the same from last week for both teams. That time, Boston won 6-4. Today we can expect something similar, Bruins play very well as a team and particularly defending, and Trashers are passing a letdown spot, playing bad on defense.

For the next 2 days, today and tomorrow, is very unlikely for me to post any picks. I'm about to travel to pass the New Year's Eve out of town to spend some quality time with my friends, so I'll not be with the proper mindset do handicap NBA, NHL or college basketball. Yet, my college football bowls picks (+6.46 units won/12 units risked) for the next 3 days (until 2010.01.02) were already posted. ;)

NHL 2010.01.02, only 1 pick:

Boston Bruins @ New York Rangers

Both teams needs to improve their results, as the time is already short to guarantee they playoffs. Both teams have traced a different path, Rangers started well and blow out lately, Bruins started badly but improved themselves. This is important game to both teams.

Bruins are good in this point of the season. They can achieve wins easily, and the major fact is their defense. They are one of the best defenders of the league, but not one of the best offense. In 18 road games, only for seven times the result was a over 5.5. In last 5 road games, only one was over, and this show how this team faces the road games.

They make their defense strong and allowing none or few goals, and their offense just produce enough to give them the win.

Rangers are with a difficult season after the 1-8 record. However, in the last road games, this team showed again some of the bright the had in the start of the season. In last 4 road games, they won the 4 in regular time. At home the results aren't yet so good, as they are 1-4 in last 5. In those 6 games, only one was a over, the 0-6 defeat to Flyers.

Both teams are improving their defense. In last games, Bruins allowed 1.6 goals per game and Rangers 2.60 goals per game. Bruins offense as been quite good lately with 3.00 goals per game, but Rangers struggles with only 1.80 goals per game. This game will be a hard game, with lots of tension, and it will be difficult for any offense to shine.

Ottawa Senators @ Washington Capitals

This is a matchup in the Eastern Conference, with both teams with valid arguments to attend the playoffs. However, and despite the good records, there is a little trend where one of this team is with a negative record. Yes, Senators are not as good as they are at home.

Senators are making a good season so far, but I think that after losing Spezza and Alfredsson they will pass a letdown spot. This isn't already easy to seen because they were playing 5 games at home in a row. They got 2 of their best offensive players out, and their offense will struggle soon. Despite they scored 7 goals at home against Flyers, they lost the last game at home against Bruins, scoring only one goal.

On the road, they score 2.24 goals per game, and this is an average that should get lower in the next games. Their defense is their weak point on road, with 3.53 goals allowed per game.

Capitals have named Ovechkin their captain. After a streak with 3 losses, this nomination had a great impact, making the team return to wins. This is one of the strongest contenders to Stanley cup, and when they start their engines, no one can stop them. After suffering many losses by injuries, something that is happening often this season, the team got almost all players ok to this game. When they got all their key players ok, they usually gives a great show, and input big losses to opponents. This is seem particularly at home, where Capitals score 3.79 goals per game, only allowing 2.74 goals per game.

So, today we can expect Capitals in full force and Senators trying to compensate some important injuries. Against power offensive teams, particularly on road, Senators can't hold the game, allowing many goals. And when Capitals get enthusiastic, they usually score a lot.

Pick: Washington Capitals PL -1.5 +155 (2.55) Bookmaker

NHL 2010.01.08, final 2 picks:

Colorado Avalanche @ Carolina Hurricanes

If this game were 1 month ago, these odds were impossible to find were Colorado. Colorado started the season with a great streak, slowing down lately, and Carolina were achieving defeat after defeat, but showed some improves after Staal return. But today, this game smell like a game from that date, but the odds didn't follow that.

Colorado started well the season, but them suffered a letdown. Since that letdown, they are showing great improvement in their last games, being again a good road team, as their record shows. Carolina after improving with Staal return, are now dealing with his personal issue that puts him out of game.

He already missed last game, that Carolina lost 4-2, and will miss today again. We can't forget that he is the key player that made Carolina improve, and without him, Carolina struggles. Colorado got better road stats than Carolina home stats, and due to the fact that Carolina are showing a great improvement lately and Carolina are in the same spot they were when they struggled hard, there is a big value on odds.

Pick: Colorado Avalanche 3Way (1X2) +125 (2.25) Bookmaker, Goalwin

Tampa Bay Lightning @ New Jersey Devils

One month ago I've done the same pick I will do today, but today the spot is much better than last month. Last month Tampa were playing better and Devils were passing a moment where they had no interest in cover the PL. Even so, Devils won 3-2.

Tampa is a home based team. They are 2-1 in last 3 road games, a better result than expected, and against permissive teams. This team have great offensive players that can make the different, but they usually struggle on the road because those players can't produce on the road the same they produce at home.

Scoring 2.32 goals per game on the road, is a low number and despite a much bigger number, their defense is even worse, allowing 3.45 goals per game.

Devils are leading the Eastern Conference and making a strong games. If they were "just" winning in the first games, they are now showing that they can play pretty well, and are winning easily. Despite two losses in last 11 games, on road against direct opponents to Stanley Cup, this team won 9 games and only twice they missed the PL. At home, they only allowed 2.09 goals per game.

At this point, Devils are to strong to let Tampa think that they can be a easy hosts. Tampa can't make surprises on road, and they can't even discuss a game against teams that are cohesive and playing well, approaching each game on the right view. Devils are also now winning most games comfortable, something that should be easy, as Tampa is a soft defense and if they get disoriented, it will be easy to Devils score.

NHL 2010.01.11 final 2 picks:

San Jose Sharks @ Los Angeles Kings

This is a game between two division rivals, that had a matchup 3 games ago, in January 4. Today, they will face each other again, but this time in Los Angeles.

Sharks are a strong contenders to Stanley cups and that's unquestionable. However, despite the good runs are bigger than the bad ones, they still have to improve in order to manage better a losing game. The 5 straight losses they had in the beginning of December shows it. Since that bad run, they made a a 8-0 run, only stopped in January 4, at home, against Kings. Their last game was also a loss at home, against Detroit, and even they were strong at that game, they weren't able to get a win against the sneaky and experienced Red Wings. Sharks are not a team with fear to play on road, as their record on road is similar to home games. This team is strong enough, and wants to have a better competitive game, that makes this team play the same goad on road and at home.

Kings are making a great season, surprising everyone. But since the hot streak they had, they are now showing some decrease in their performs, with a 4-7 record in last 11. The most of that wins were against teams that have been surprised, as they were expecting a easy team, and Kings fought for the game. Their last two games were 2 defeats at home, against Red Wings and Blues, teams that can faces road games without fear.

Today we will have a revenge spot. Sharks are not happy at all with Kings, that made them stop their winning streak at home, and by big numbers. Today, Sharks will not be surprised, will take control of the game, and manage a easy win, as they are better on road than Kings at home. They can be better on offense and better on defense, despite being the visitors.

Pick: San Jose Sharks PL -1.5 +220 (3.20) The Greek

Nashville Predators @ Vancouver Canucks

Just before Christmas, Predators went to Vancouver. In that day, Canucks won 4-1, and we can expect something similar today. Despite a good season so far in Canadian soil by Predators, they usually struggles on Vancouver.

Predators had a bad start and seems that they are returning to that time. Their last games have been losses or unconvincing, and despite the stats shows that they are not suffering many goals is due to the fact that they have faced many "soft" and that didn't make any pressure. When they faces strong offensive teams, their defense seems like small kids, with their legs shaking. They got an average of 3 goals allowed per game on road, and it's a nice stat if you look to boxscores and see that Predators usually allow the double of the shots they take on road.

Canucks are in a different direction, as they are improving and stronger day by day. At this point, we can say that in last 9 games, Canucks only lost 2 games on OT, winning 6 covering the PL and 1 on OT. Great results that should give us confidence to bet on them minus -1.5 goals. But the last game, they lost, at home, on OT, and will certainly looking for revenge today, as they will face another Canadian team. With a 3.48 goals per game, they can add a 1.96 goals allowed per game, something that make them strong on offense as well than defense.

So, today we can expect a hard Canucks team, trying to show that they are really hot right now. The last time Predators went to Vancouver, Vancouver were coming from a home loss as well, and get revenge against Predators. That game was soft to Predators, despite the 4-1 loss, because Canucks controlled the game from the first to last minute, with no many facilities. Today, we can expect a Canucks team that knows what will face, and taking their opportunities.

NHL 2010.01.12 first 2 picks:

Dallas Stars @ Philadelphia Flyers

After a hard rehab, we finally got Flyers back to their best performances! And so, we have teams going in different directions, and we can take advantage if we take the ride that Flyers are giving, as they are really hot right now.

Dallas as not been reliable, but they are reliable in something: they only achieved a win in road games since middle November. And since they lost Ribeiro, they are struggling much more, playing with more difficulties and with less confidence. That's easily seen if, as they are allowing 3.40 goals per game and scoring 1.40 in last 5 games.

Flyers are in a different situation. After a good start, they struggled a lot and fired their coach. With new coach, we could see some improve, but the result were difficult to appear. But now, are 7-2, with 3 wins in last 3 game, including a 6-3 victory in Pittsburgh. They are showing again their strongest point, their offense. In their offense, any player is a potential scorer, and all of them scores, not leaving that job exclusive to centers and r/l wings. Their defense, under the lead of Pronger, are showing a great improve as well, allowing few goals. In their last 5 games, this team is coring 4.40 goals per game, allowing 3.20, due to the 7-4 loss in Ottawa.

We just have to take this play. Flyers are too strong and confident right now, and facing a bad road team, that is struggling a lot lately, perhaps due to a important injure, is the right spot to another blowout win.
