View Full Version : Cash Prize: 6th. February Box a Trifecta Competition

Management
4th February 2010, 05:55 AM
Entries close on Saturday at 1.15pm. Sydney time. Of course you can't tip from any races that have an official starting time of 1.15 Sydney time or earlier!

The meetings you can tip from are:

Ascot
Bendigo
Caulfield
Doomben
Gold Coast
Morphettville
Newcastle
Rosehill
Toowoomba

To make this competition more interesting your box five trifecta must pay a dividend of at least $240 based on one dollar units (that's equivalent to tipping a $4.00 winner.)

Please make sure you know the rules before you box your two trifectas in this thread.

This competition is fun and free to enter each week. You are given two chances to select a winning trifecta from Saturday's races. The person who tips the trifecta with the biggest dividend paying at least $240 (equivalent to tipping a $4.00 winner) wins and we'll give the winner a $50 cash prize. So read on ...

Please note: The $50 cash prize will only be deposited in a Sportsbet Australia, (http://record.sportsbetaffiliates.com.au/__BBFWysCs1Wu11z-n_bVh2Nd7ZgqdRLk/1) IASbet.com (http://record.iasbetaffiliates.com/_sI0vPiEc8mvCHvdJPdAX9GNd7ZgqdRLk/1/) or Sportingbet Australia (http://www.sportingbet.com.au/partners.asp?btag=a_4b_464) bookmaker account as in addition to rewarding the best winning tip we are also promoting these businesses.

1. Each Thursday we'll tell you the race meetings held on Saturday from where you can box your trifectas and let you know the competition's closing time for the final post.

2. Each person is allowed to select two box trifectas. Each trifecta can have five horses selected. When you box your two trifectas, for each trifecta give:

a) The race meeting.
b) The race number.
c) The TAB numbers in order of your five horses. To help with reading your entries please place the number of each horse on a new line.

Example:

Moonee Valley
Race 7
2
4
7
9
16

Rosehill
Race 8
1
7
12
14
17

You should ensure that you correctly post the details of a), b) and c) above such as the correct race meeting. For example, if the meeting is at Randwick you should post Randwick, NOT Rosehill. If you post Rosehill then your entry is null and void.

3. Once someone posts their two trifectas, they own any winning trifecta combinations that can be made from the five horses in each race, so when you post make sure you don't post the identical numbers in the same race.

4. Each person's trifecta is all in, meaning should a horse be scratched after you selected it in your trifecta you do not get another horse. This is only fair because once you post your five horses in a race before anyone else in this competition you own any trifecta combination they make in this competition.

5. For each of your trifectas you are allowed to include no more than three numbers anyone else may have included if they tipped a trifecta in the same race. However, should two or more people have the same three horses in the competition's winning trifecta, the prize will be awarded to the person who posted first as per clause number 3. above. You might be quite happy having three horses which were posted by someone else earlier than you, because you might be confident that one or both of your two other horses will be in the trifecta.

6. However, if you find out that you've accidentally included three or more numbers in your trifecta that are the same as someone who posted earlier you are allowed to make a new post before the competition's closing time.

7. In your new post, you will need to tell us the number of your previous post (every post in the thread will have a different number) and the user name and number of the post that had three or more numbers in their trifecta tipped before you posted. This post will have a lower number than your post.

8. You are not allowed to alter your trifecta just because you've changed your mind.

9. Posts with an edited message at the bottom are not accepted so do not edit your post after it has already been posted by you.

10. The person whose trifecta wins at the best odds, paying a dividend of at least $240, as published on the Sportsbet Australia web site is the winner. Click here (http://record.sportsbetaffiliates.com.au/__BBFWysCs1WhJjIwNC_yVWNd7ZgqdRLk/1/results/racing/Date/today) for the results page. If two or more people tie because their trifectas in different races pay the same dividend then the prize will be shared.

11. Please note as it costs $60 to box five horses with $1 units, your winning box five trifecta must pay a dividend of at least $240 using $1 units to be eligible for the weekly the prize. This is equivalent to tipping a $4.00 winner.

12. Each week the winner will be posted in that week's tipping thread by the following Friday. We'll aim to make this early in the week. Usually a Monday or Tuesday. We'll also allow 24 hours before we declare correct weight, just in case there's a protest by someone who thinks they should be declared the winner because we may have made a clerical error.

I remember once listening to a radio play with Peter Lorre in it that was set in a wax museum. The wax figures were all famous criminals. Unbeknown to the latest poor sap to buy the business was that all the previous owners had expired strangely. You see, the wax figures were all communicating using the powers of concentration. It was their concentrated evil that was bestowing all this unpleasantness on all of the curators. This is a rather strained way of leading into the point of this post which is to let you know that our 26 separate boxed trifectas would have cost $1560 if someone had taken all of them (for a $1 stake) for a return of $1085.

Many thanks. I love the tipping comp & look forward to it each week. I admit that after my conveyances lobbed, tragically I checked other tipsters' attempts - even Ascot Races 7 & 8 (a first for me). Last week I cracked a trifecta (even a first four) but this week was much harder - my analysis of Sydney wet track form was absolutely hopeless!

There is a wonderful camaraderie within this close knit group and some great researchers: Percentum & Makybe Diva do their homework and MD sure can tip! I have fluked a previous trifecta win and had great fun on SPORTSBET most days ever since: excellent site, helpful staff and many fun aspects - would you believe I can't ever crack "Lucky Loser" (my first attempt at laying horses, rather than supporting them). Try to pick 9 straight non placegetters: it's harder than you think. SIRMIONE!

Silver & Sand correctly advises participants to adhere to guidelines - the prizes are generous and accessible; Management should not be placed in invidious tricky situations.

I look forward to corret weight, as I ran down my SPORTSBET balance this morning with a sentimental wager on New Orleans in the Superbowl.

Appreciation again from the fast finishing old grey. Does anyone remember the original Foxseal?

Yes, Foxseal, I remember the original Foxseal. He was one of my favourites. Always flying home from well back. I actually missed what would've been one of my biggest daily doubles ever the day he ran second in the Doncaster (I had $5 on it). I got Tristarc home in the Derby at $30+ and I think Foxy was about 50/1 in the big mile. I think Row Of Waves just held on to win the race but it might've been another Doncaster. Rick Hore-Lacy trained him and he could always put in a bottler first up at huge odds. I know he was a NZ bred, I think by a sire called Foxbridge. He was the sort of horse you'd take in an Oakleigh Plate or a Brisbane Cup and have a realistic chance of collecting. I never remember a race in which he didn't run on strongly. It was in the days when the term ''track bias'' was not yet part of the lexicon.

Thanks Percentum (you are a very good analyst btw). Definitely by Foxbridge and trained by Rick. Sorry I didn't get up in that Doncaster for you. Also one year in the Cup, I couldn't run on because of the wet track. Good luck in your future tipping and collegiate trifecta calculations. So is there an allusion within "Percentum" other than from the original Latin derivation?

Percentum

Yes, Foxseal, there is a link with Percentum and racing. He was a horse I had shares in. He was a son of Centaine who was by Century who, in turn was by a great old sire called Better Boy. He had all sorts of leg problems. We finally gave him to Gai Waterhouse after stints with Jack Denham and Tim Clark. First run for Gai he won at Kembla by 9 lengths. Gai told us Tommy was there and said, ''This bloke'll win in town.'' Unfortunately he had one more race in which he broke down. Cliched though it is, this experience underlines the axiom (or whatever it is) ''that's racing.'' I must say in my very few ventures into racing ownership I was surprised at how obliging and approachable the Smiths (Gai, Ernie and Tommy) were. Totally professional but also very welcoming and quite humble in spite of their achievements.
