i'm reading dick mitchell's book on racing can someone explain the following word
and sentence

He uses the word MUTUEL he uses it in the following sentence can someone
explain this sentence to me

" a person is a 30% handicapper at an average MUTUEL of $7 " ?????

I did a bit of checking and it could be this Parimutuel betting as that's all they have in the US

The mutual they are talking about is the average win dividend a handicapper is able to maintain and at a 30% strike rate. I am a yank, so there you have it. I had to learn the racing terms in Oz a few years ago, so I understand the confusion. Good luck to you!
