Its just another 2400 race now, nothing special about it (or the fields it attracts). The distance reduction (was 3200) has probably done more harm than good imo.

Timing is a big problem as it is always a scorcher Jan 1 & thereabout. Why would interstate trainers want to send decent stayers over to prepare & race in that kind of heat.

Will be interesting to see how the Perth Cup winner fares over east next couple of months. Said to be tackling major races in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.
