This is a system I have been following daily since 20th March and it is showing a S/R >32% and POT%>70% - I believe the latter will drop as the system enters new grounds but still should show an overall healthy profit.

RULES

Only consider Victorian and NSW meetings on Good or Dead tracks
Don Scott Favourite between $2.00 and $3.60 inclusive
No Don Scott equal favourites
No city meetings
No "Open" Maiden races, restricted Maiden races OK
Races with 8 to 13 runners only
Races >= 1200m only
The only other proviso I use is the contender's SP must be <=14.00 but this rule may not suit everyone unless you have the time to monitor the changing prices.

Today's contenders are:-

Bendigo R3 Zaeem
Bendigo R6 Keep Control
Bendigo R7 Redinsky

Good luck to anyone who jumps aboard the roller coaster ride!

I should have included the Place S/R is about 64% showing a POT% of approximately 20% over 93 bets since 20th March.

Dividends are based on best of NSW and Vic totes.

Obviously there is still a long way to go but the signs are good!

I have trialed your system with my data.
my results showed about -2% On T/0 using tatts dividends.

If you want to give it a real pump along I would suggest the following:
1. Win% rank 1-3
2. Career starts <=10
3. All tracks in Australia

Using the above and making a SP guess this is what you get for today

Ballarat R 4 #12 0x072 Fleeting Embrace
Wyong R9 #11 5x372 Kentucky Belle
York R1 #5 5x349 Double Swirl

Hi Aussielongboat,

Thanks for your reply.

Did you only consider Good and Dead Tracks as you have listed Wyong which is a Heavy track?

As I said in my original rules I have only looked at NSW and VIC meetings so how did the other States qualifiers go as I am achieving >70% POT currently.

What %POT and S/R did you achieve using your new rules?

If we continue to inspire others to look at the rules and modify them maybe we can get the pot of gold!

aussielongboat
28th April 2011, 11:49 AM
I used all surfaces and all races and I didnt filter out the other states.
i will have to reload the data to get the surfaces and the race class accurate.
that will take some time.

the main thing i noticed was that the SP filter was very important.

Like all selection methods it will establish an average return after it has enough data.
The problem is you never know how much is enough data - most of the time.

e.g.
is this a temporary setback OR establishment of a long term trend.

I have seen approaches like this win for at say 12-15% POT for 3 years and then just head south like they never existed.

Yes Job123 , Head for the Hills.

The Punting world is going to end as we know it.

I am typing this from under my bed which is where all the rest of you should be right now.

Jokes aside.

Every method has a thing called runs of outs , we can reasonable predict how long that run will be once we have a stronger understanding of its average SR.
e.g. 20% SR , we can expect at some stage a run of 36 outs in a row.
The expected runs of outs , only apply to that day, because the next day is the start of a new cycle, that's why its not a good idea to carry
progressional bets over to the next day.

Less experienced punters think that as soon as there is one not so good day , they think that's the end of everything as we know it.

That's why stop/ losses are used .

I have seen this many times in the past using the Neurals, but its average percentage SR (20% for top selection) does not change, year to year.

I have seen very expensive rating services do the same thing.

But if one feels strongly enough about the Don Scott selections have indeed turned to putty , start Laying them to fall over and watch what happens to your bank account.

Try and enjoy the Daylight .

I'm going back under my bed now.

I am typing this from under my bed which is where all the rest of you should be right now.

Jeez, Bhags, I hope you've got a lot of room under your bed then. Big screen TV, pizzas and an Esky would be kinda cool too. :)

But you're correct, all methods have their 'down time' and it is this very 'down time' that causes most punters to ditch their current successful method after hitting one or two potholes and leap on to the next, new successful idea, unsuccessfully.

I learned long ago that indecision will not take the bickies and success is measured by your own volition.

I said in another post if a run of outs is ok if the odds are high but the facts seem to point to a loser in the long run as the odds are not high----- however if Try Try has a long past history or someone else can use data to say a profit is possible then I would maybe think again but thats 12 outs in 2 days !!!! and small odds since tips were posted------ still a worry .

Try Try do not pay any attention to darky dog he lies and posts a crap system The long term result of any system requires value in the tote prices with dons scott top rater you have just said the favs = don scott top. To have a hope of this working go back and look at your past results and look at the top of ds top where it meets a price of 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 or more dollers(tote price just before the jump ) and see it a profit it made .

I looked at your suggestion of only considering contenders with an SP of >=$5.00. In the past 38 bets, there would have only been 3 winners, the bank would have dropped by 1/3 and would currently be on a 18 losing streak - Scary stuff!

An aspect I will look at are the class of races being thrown up.

Hi Job123,

Using the $2.00 to $3.60 DS rated horses increased the Win Strike rate and returned an increase in Bank of 64.6 units (prior to the other rules being implemented).

Hi Max,

I have only looked at the DS favourite so I do not have any information on DS's 2nd or 3rd favourites. Recently a qualifier that started at $14.00 SP paid only $9.20 although I got $17.00 on IASBet. The results I tabulate (for consistency) are best of NSW or VIC Tab's so I listed it at $9.20.

Todays horse at 6 minutes to 12 pm is showing 13 dollars on both nsw and vic tabs( pre post 11$ ) so what if its more than 5 dollars just before the jump according to the above it would be wrong to bet on it ?

The point is to look at filters that contribute to your winnings amd/or filters that reduce your losses. Not choosing selections that are >=5.00 looks like a good start.

Just saw in race 7 at syd today dons scott top winning rated at 5.00 dollars and paying 16 dollars in vic totes. So Try Try says the top rater loses if its 2.00 to 3.60 range and is 5.00 dallars or more sp That brings up a new system rule 1 ----5.00 or higher DS top 2-------must be 5.00 dollars or more sp-- the horse was also within the top 4 of the nurals cp rank so thats the 3rd rule keen to know if anyone has data to find if this is a good system in the long run .

I've only just starter looking at this forum last week, I have put the selections in from Thursday last week into a staking plan and we are still $250 ahead with a starting bank of $400.

Aye Aye Pete.
Punting is a mugs game. 95% of the fraternity are losers. They have to be to pay the 5% that win. The rest put in and take out enough to be enticed to put in again. Now take the time to see where all the long time forum members are. The ones that are savvy. They have changed to laying. even some which are not computer savvy have moved.

You make a system and trial it in real time with real money. If it is a goer then you put a staking plan to it to match the results. Altering it all the time throws money away. You are going to get good days and bad days and a few horrible runs. If the system is a good one and the staking plan is the correct match then it will survive and flourish. If not ditch it. Take the positives and try make another system. You cannot fix something if it is fundamently flawed.

Spot on Pete. Why change a winning formula.

Why research past reults ? Past results bear no relation to future results.
There are just too many variables in a race to have something duplicated exactly. Its a exercise in futility.

The author has developed a sensible set of rules that work for him and the only way he can test it is future races.

Firstly you make sure that your system has some merit. Top DS has that. Research (just looking at past forum posts will do) will show you that by themselves they will not produce a positive. You apply your rules and see if you can check against a database of past results. This may even require digging up past results yourself. If you are satisfied of the potential then test it with $1 bets. In a week you will know without a doubt whether to persevere with it or not. Then you ask yourself whether the risk reward ratio is worth it. As Pete says it is working. You are trying to tweak it. have some small bets on it. Compare the two. You are asking to compare on SP. In real time nobody knows what this will be. It has to be to your parameters, your emotions. Beton

Hi Pete The Punter,

You can not go back and look at the previous days selections because after the days races the information is updated and the "selections" change depending on the results of the race.

You need to get the info on the day and work from these.

Just to give an update for the meetings whilst I was away on holidays - WA great weather at this time of year!

There were 25 bets for 3 winners and another 8 places.

Win Bank has dropped from $64.00 to $49.90 and Place Bank has dropped from $20.74 to $15.54 so overall not a good result.

On raw data from 20th March until 31st May there were 1084 races for 216 wins (19.9% S/R) showing a loss of $30.35 (LOT 2.8%) and 540 places (49.8% S/R) showing a loss of $9.06 (LOT 0.8%). This is with no elimination rules except NSW and Vic tracks only and track conditions must be Dead or better.

Try, those are very good results even without applying any filters apart from the two basic ones mentioned.

Two questions:

1) Were the results using TAB divvies? Betfair divvies would almost guarantee a satisfactory profit.

2) Were the results compiled before the running of the first race at each venue? If not, then the results may not be accurate because the D.S. market changes.

Hi Michaelg,

All selections are BEFORE races are run.

Dividends are Sportsbet Citybest+ for City races and best of NSW/VIC Tab dividends for Country meetings.

Thanks, Try.

I would be surprised if Betfair did not beat your figures, especially because the strike rate was 19.9% which therefore would have snared one or two good-priced winners and these more often than not are higher than the best TAB divvy.
