This thread is for members to post their WA tips - eg Ascot Saturdays, Ascot Midweek, Pinjarra, Mt Barker, Bunbury etc, etc.
Good luck to everyone, let's hope we can add to each other's pot of gold (as Paddy would say)

Hi Magoo, Rogues March has been scratched. He will have to keep for another day. Did intend to post my comments, which were to be along the lines......."Have rated Rogues March a close 2nd for this race, top rated is Paris Bank. Is an open race with a number of other chances".

Hi Redcraze, don’t like the Ascot meeting today as betting medium, saving my money for Saturday. For what it is worth, race 6 looks to be very open but your two I have rated as genuine winning chances – Blue Nonna looks to have a slight edge over Opus Rose.
If you can get decent odds for horses 1,2,3,10 or 15 (I’ve rated these as your main dangers) might be worth having a saver.

El Gordo
20th February 2003, 03:03 PM
Ascot today - Thursday 20th Feb.
R1: A few unraced, watch for any betting moves. Yarraman could be the best of the unraced. Of the raced brigade, Woodlore looks the best, Marshall Vic next best, Business Broker some change if improves on first run.
R2: May not be a lot of speed in this race which would suit Ginger Gem. Mega Me, She's A Kite & Shirbella also look chances.
R3: Bleepak first-up should be too classy. What A Legend & Broadcasting should be main dangers.
R4: Taolani on best form will be hard to beat. Fly Fonteyn a big danger if her last run was not a fluke. Bonna Bonita & Blue Ballerina also chances.
R5: Abu Dhabi looks well suited. Paris Bank with Harvey aboard will be hard to beat. Expect Mr Debernals & Super Tom to both be running on.
R6: Scenic Cruise to win again. Fandang meeting Scenic Cruise better at the weights, but Fandang's second-up record not all that flash. Have to respect Malwalkie with Harvey aboard. Blue Nonna a chance at odds.
R7: Pienodze well drawn & well weighted. Respect for Forceful from Vic - has a good first-up record. Permanent Grin another well drawn & well weighted. Rustic Hero & Blazing Morn also chances at odds.
R8: Expect End Path to sit on Cougar Roar and be too strong for that horse. For third like True & Correct. Decoder & Urastat chances at odds.

The applause is deafening, ain’t it my boyos
6 winners to you El Gordo including Blazing Morn at $24.60 & $7.40 and some 2nd's & 3rd's to boot.
And an $11.70 winner to you Perth Placegetter – what do ya think of the fat one’s track record so far? Not bad eh!
Well done buckaroos!!

Ascot 22/2
I am confident i can break my duck in Perth courtesy of "FRED WHO" - Race 7.
Very stiff last run, just did not get a crack at them at all. Drawn well and with any luck at all, I will collect and recoup some of my losses.

Well done El Gordo, again right on the money. Thanks Sandgroper for the info, I'll have to keep a closer eye on the thread as Paris Bank right in the finish.
Noticed Rogues March in Race 2 at Albany tomorrow - probably won't offer much value but worth keeping an eye on.
Good luck to all

Non-WA punters it’s wet in the east dry in the west so for Ascot grab a good form guide, spend the time, have a betting strategy and you could finish in front. Northerly is at 11am.
The Rail is into 4m, was 5m on Thursday.
R2 – pin job, 6.5 chances, so some notes….1MyTrueChoice let Rickitave cross, settle 2nd,2kg pull from Glitzy Show…2ShesCapitivating dist?,should beat GlitzyShow… 3Rickitave beat DreamofStorms recent trial,leader,4weeks break…4GlitzyShow dist?…5 InParadisum scr. Thurs, Fly Fonteyn confirmed form Thurs.,…6 ABonnyDrop very good recent 1600m runs…7MissPolygraph big cls rise, won last 2……best of luck in this
R3 – Tango Man deserves to win one, good 2nd last week. From bar1 with the claim Twin Power has every chance, good 4th c/d Nov. behind Blevvo. Turnerz improved a lot last start. My lays are the in-form Clan Noble(dual accept. R5) and Money is Magic(1st 1800m run and an in-and-out type).
R4 – . Dream of Storms missed place only once in 19sts(!) and resumes, 2nd recent B/T . Time is Money sat 2nd behind a fast early Miss Torpago 3 weeks ago, prev. 2 wins c/d, bar 3, good chance. Princess Neillena could be thereabouts as well, back after a break.
R5 – Trainer Smith/jock. PHarvey make a good combo and with Arrian could surprise by racing forward. Did this last prep over c/d for 2nd. Top return 1st up. About a year ago Cento led t/o over the c/d. Forget last week, not fully tested. Will lead if Rickitave doesn’t accept(as also in R2). Instantaneous will want Ricktave to start in this along with Benvaro and Cento putting on some pace, but I’ll lay it.
R6 – several chances so some notes…..jockey(manager) choices -> PHarvey opted for Narcissim over Kontiki Sir. JWhiting has selected Poziere over Merlos. PKnuckey has selected Killadeas over Sir Honour…..1ClanNoble dual acceptor R3, never carried 58.5kg…..3Tapdog good chance, SJMiller back on.
R7 – ripper Listed 40k 1200m. I can’t pick the winner. Dexian won’t win but is untapped and could compete interstate eventually, interesting to see how he returns after long-ish spell.
R8 – So I’ve waited all day for a decent bet and if odds allow I’ll back two. 4 Moon Talk and 5 Old Beau. I see Moon Talk settling probably behind Bandolero or a touch further back, get the split and ping. The query is how much improvement is in Old Beau 2nd up. Smith/PHarvey combo, and distance suits better. Hoping punters back a couple of others I haven’t mentioned.
Top day to all.

It's nice to see one of my old brissie favourites in Perth -
Turnerz in race 3
Might have a few on it for old times sake, is certainly a capable horse on it's day, however have not see it's runs of late, and don't know too much about the opposition. Good luck to all betting today.

Good morning all, some top racing today.
Good luck with Fred Who today Redcraze. In that same race (7) fancy Fireband (3) to win, should sit just behind the pace and prove too strong for them. Family Dreams (12) a similar run to get 2nd. For 3rd I will include Storm Shot (6). Might also include for the novelties - Kensyl Bay (1) & Tribula (2). Should be a great race, with plenty of pace.

Will be surpised if Tango Man, Money Is Magic & Clan Noble don't fight out race 3 at Ascot today.
Also (at Ascot) these could surprise at long odds-
Race 4 nos. 9,10,11 & 13.
Race 5 nos. 2,7,10 & 12.
Race 8 nos. 2,6,8 & 9.

Bit of a review and betting flucs from yesterday’s Ascot races($ decimal odds). Apologies stating Dream of Storms had only missed 1 placing in 19 starts, it was 4 missed placings(5 now!). Northerly account $8.02million after 18w6p29sts.
R1 – A plonk was landed with Royal Fire(6.0 5.0 4.5) sweeping home after being wide, obliterating Freaky Kontiki(2.11 2.63 2.5). Now won both starts, dam Fire Lake is by Bureaucracy.
R2 – Slowly run but why Darren McCaully kept harping on it was more surprising than the winner’s performance. A Bonny Drop(4.25 5.0 4.5) fast finish beating the “perennial bridesmaid” She’s Captivating(3.25 3.5 4.25).
R3 – Good odds Tango Man(4.5 5.0) had the smother and broke clear. They’ll need to claim or jump him in class now. His conqueror of recent starts Fore Stay is in the Aha Cup at Bunbury today. That was an awful Turnerz(5.0 5.5). Clan Noble(5.0 4.6) ran top 4th, wide t/o, loomed up in straight.
R4 – At the finish only 2.75len covered the first 11 runners. True Surrender(11.0 13.0) met Time is Money 3kg better for 1len defeat 2 sts ago c/d. Last start was poor at Bunbury but what do they say about forgiving 1 bad run? Cool Eyed(8.0 9.0 8.5) top on-pace effort, still eligible for a C2.
R5 – Exhilarating call by McCaully as Instantaneous(3.5 3.75) gave every runner a start and a beating and nailed the short Arrian(1.80) who had every chance 2ndup. Winner was a maiden for 15sts now won 3 last 5. Vindaloo didn’t race here but split Blinded and Instantaneous last week so worth a good look next time.
R6 – Charming Story(10.0 11.0 9.0) beat a good Tapdog(6.5 6.0). Kristian Hawkins set Warning Tune(10.0 13.0) an impossible task with the 57kg running at seemingly uncontrollable speed. Hope the Stewards ask a question.
R7 – Mr.Callahan(8.0 10.0) gave KForrester a winning double. Kames Hope ripe for a 1400m run next start. There must be two Firebands, and a poor 13th for Family Dreams(8.9 9.0 7.0), Dexian(6.0 5.5) ok 5len adrift from winner.
R8- Perhaps the biggest plonk landed in recent Saturdays was here on Moon Talk(4.25 5.0 4.0 3.0) when she got an inside run. If Ikenushi doesn’t get the split he’s a mug, he does and it was a great ride. Generous odds again Bandolero(8.0 10.0 9.0) top 2nd . Old Beau(4.0 4.5 4.0) bit wide, plugged.
Good punting this week.

Great review Red.
I've blackbooked a couple from your comments.
El Gordo
23rd February 2003, 12:37 PM
Bunbury today - Sunday 23rd Feb.
R4: Good run by Cyclone Sox in stronger grade last start, will be also suited by the step up in distance. Cherry Blossom & He's So Vain main dangers. Raw Excitement could run well fresh.
R5: Platinum has to be hard to beat, based on goods run last two in the city. Gold Weave unlucky 2nd last start, this course & distance. Mordor won a class 1 this course & distance last start as a maiden. Simply Marooned can surprise if she can get a good run up on the lead.
R6: The topweight Main Stage looks the hardest to beat. Also qualifies as a "topweight" system selection. Main danger could be Dedicated Miss, who meets Main Stage better at the weights for thier last start clash. Expecting further improvement from Paradiddle. Also include Magic Dash, should be nice odds.
R7: Devil's Dance going great guns. Bellcina top win last start. Dancing Tycoon has some good city form, although did put in a shocker at first run back after a spell. Dance With Angels goes well fresh & should be at good odds.
R8: Huge run by Wandoo Park last start at Ascot, althouhg not suited by step down in distance. Dawn Trooper has been thereabouts recently in tougher class & will appreciate the drop back to class 2. Biraka Girl lightly raced and goes well fresh. Bring It Home Babe good 2nd to Cool Eyed last start - Cool Eyed ran a good 3rd yesterday at Ascot.
Paddy

Nice tipping El Gordo - 4 winners and your top selection saluted in the cup. Also nice run by your top selection in the last, a fast finishing close 3rd paying around $4 the place.
El Gordo

Thanks for the positive feedback Paddy
Pinjarra today – Wednesday 26th Feb.
R1: St Magnus looks the best of the raced brigade. Expect improvement from Lukaboom & Magic Micro. Unraced Hester Street could be a smoky.
R2: Caribbean Royale will be hard to beat on exposed city form, also addition of blinkers. Expect Bay Ivy to be a big danger, goes well fresh. Other chances include Contrabandido & Fred In The Red.
R3: Like Waspish in this, been knocking at the door. Gold Shaker a chance with natural improvement. Add Hot Stats, Rhythmo & Native Silver into the multiples.
R4: Dreamtime Lover narrowly beaten at first start looks a top chance. Main dangers look to be Diamond Raider & Aqualisa. Add Blonde Babe & Polish Mist into the multiples.
R5: With the scratchings, Conspirator now looks almost a special. Valley Tiger & Miss Sabrina seem best of the rest.
R6: Al Salil looks the hardest to beat. Thorium next best, from Stella Bellissima & Our Doreen.
R7: Mint Play will enjoy the step up in distance. Admiral Black & Narcissism the main dangers. Jev Force a chance at odds.
R8: Ovation on top. Mikis Prospector & Botanix next best. Lados & Valouise always thereabouts. One at odds – Ace O’Class with blinkers added.

You also tipped the winner of race 7 from your top 3 - $3.20 (top pick running 3rd). The only race you missed out on was race 6 where you managed 2nd ($7.40 place) and 3rd (top pick).

Yes this thread and ‘The Perth Scene’ gets the hits, hope browsers getting a feel for WA racing. This week I emailed the WATC asking why Ascot and Belmont don’t alternate every week year-round, instead of the summer Ascot, winter Belmont. The reply from Chris Tidy was quick and obvious : “only need to spit on the turf at Ascot and it becomes a bog”. Just thought some runners could benefit from different surroundings, owners/trainers wouldn’t mind, punters also have preferred courses.
Today, Northerly at 10.50am. Ascot Rail 6m.
R1 – I have it pretty open with Essential Terms at around 4/1. Expect a much better run from Beyond Dispute, just cross out last start run. End Path drops 5 kg with claim, has bar1, likes the Ascot 1200.
R3 – Keen on 7 Kontiki Sir. Was sort of up there chasing a fast speed last week and held on very well. Harvey on, drops 2.5kg for the class rise, has the early speed to find the fence and control the race. My mate 5 Super Moss a chance and well weighted on best, 1 Twin Power may come across from wide gate, backing up from last week.
R4 – Tricky, my convictions are….. 4 Blinded might start fav. and could be unders. Harvey on 2 Dedicated Miss will attract some rank and file punters, she didn’t stay the 2000m at Bunbury. 7 Beaucoup Argent is 3rd up but winning form is at Kalgoolie, 6 Abu Dhabi drops 2kg for the cls rise, 5A Bonny Drop ran sub 34 last 600m last week, will give a start again though. 1Opening Twist had a slight setback.
R5 – Harvey on 2 Son of Vasac will be short odds, excellent win c/d December, just need to find the split off the fence before the turn. Targetting the Pinjarra/Bunbury Cups double. 1 Exit Lane to improve. The speed from 4 MissTorpago, 8 Rodeo Man, 7 Metalory, 5 Voltega.
R6 – 45k Listed 1600m for 3yo fillies with 20starters. Very open, and a few attempting the distance for first time.
R7 – Very good 40k Listed 3yo 1400m with several promising prospects, short odds shouldn’t be offered...Harvey had a choice of a few and went for the resuming 1The Right Money. 2Mercury Halo untapped with 4 starts 4wins, new dist, up against stronger field..3Early Express might cross and lead, best win was this dist. in Lee Steere in December. 4 MoonTalk wants1400, up against stronger field. 6Kestrel Call 2nd B/T, 8Kennedy 2mths break, consistent.
R8 – D-Day for 3Tribulations. In this he has some rival speed to contend with but could still box seat settling. Hall has won on him before, probably needed the 3week break after chasing hard behind Inzaghi, should be primed. Several chances in order 7,1,4.
Top day to all.

Review and betting flucs from yesterday’s Ascot races(bookie odds). No significant betting moves this week.
Overall the times were quick.
R1 – Suresh led on End Path setting a 34.71 1st sectional, fast fast for this class. It stuck on well(the other 2 onpacers dropped right out) but “flooding home” was Spirit of Jules(7 10) beating Yamunindi(7 15/2). The fav. Essential Terms(5/2 3) off 3 week break and up in class didn’t run on.
R2 – Fav. Diamond Dash(7/4 9/4) got a bit lost before turn good 2nd to Buster’s Yousha(4 5 9/2). Nothing worse for a punter than not getting a run for your money, Air Pocket(2 9/4) blew the start then pulled out of the event.
R3 – Party Boy(9/2 11/2) made big improvement last start, continued on yesterday out-sprinting the leaders in slowly run race. Kontiki Star(2 7/4) every chance 3rd. Super Moss(5 6) 2nd , led into the straight.
R4 – Blinded(6/4 7/4) shouldn’t have won how the race panned out. Coming from near last and needing sub 34.66 to win is above average, and pinhead Hughes getting better navigating as well. 3rd Beaucoup Argent(4 7/2).
R5 – Son of Vasac(1/1 9/10) wore down a fighting Miss Torpago(11/2 13/2) who had 7.5kg less, 3rd was runner-on Exit Lane(6 7). Hasn’t the winner been a good earner, 22sts in money 73% for nearly 200k. He’s off for Pinjarra Cup/Bunbury Cups double.
R6 – WA’s top trainer Parnham prepared Superior Star(7 6) 2ndup here at near peak for the Listed 45k 3yo fillies event. 2 runs 2wins over 1600m for her and she’s by Nothin Leica Dane.
R7 – Darren McAullay raised it a decibel with his call of this, exciting duel between leader and winner Early Express(11/4 3) and Mercury Halo(11/4 3) sprinting in 34.47. Big gap to MoonTalk(7/2) 3rd, wide.
R8 – Star Trekking(4 11/2 5) enjoyed use of the good barrier and with soft run sprinted too quickly for disappointing Tribulations(5/2 9/4) 3rd. Evergreen Orange William(5 9/2) with his 2nd made it 3 wins 4 seconds last 7 sts.
Tomorrow at Ascot in R6 1400m, big field, 1 Jarnot has his chance to break through in town. Perfectly drawn, certain to box seat, well weighted with claim. For Multiples include 3 Pienodze, 2 Key Flyer , 7 Fandang.
Top week to all.

No winners to Pre-Post but a couple of good place divis in Big Dam ($12.80) & Surroundings ($6.60).
Two winners to BettyBoop – Spirit Of Jules ($12.70) & Star Trekking ($7.30), also race 8 tri - $155.90.

Umm Paddy, tipping wise a fairly dirty day.
Bettyboop, thought with the long spell that Beau Pago would be worth a look only but it won a trial recently and Harvey selected it over Reggee.
In R4 Femme, racing in a Welter and only 53.5kg, should control the race. Civil List a chance.
Hope Betfair add Perth races one day, though that would mean more time at home, not sure the wife would agree!
El Gordo, don't lose heart or enthusiam mate!!I know only too well where you are coming from. The original posting of the Topweight system got almost 4000 views, and the Topweight system MK2 is approaching 1000,and yes, feedback is sometimes minimal and dissappointing.Just remember that some people are either too shy, feel they have no input of any value, think their ideas will be ridiculed,etc.etc.You are doing a fantastic job,and I assure you that your efforts are not going unnoticed. Also congratulations to Betty Boop and Sandgroper for their consistent efforts, and their consistent ability, along with yours, for finding winners!!!!Also to Percentum, who puts in the effort, and finds the winners too!!Keep it up guys(and gals!)I rarely used to punt in Perth, but you guys and gals are slowly but surely converting me!!You people obviously know your onions when it comes to Perth acing,so please don't give it away!!Congrats to all of you,and also Paddy who I forgot to mention earlier!!Cheers,angel416

Nice tip with Jarnot red, won easily. Also see BB liked Jarnot as well, and also tipped us 3rd and 4th (dead-heat). Well done to both of you.
Femme a bit disappointing red – now two starts in open company for a 2nd and a 3rd. Not long ago Femme won over same course and distance as yesterday in 1m10.43 carrying 58kg with last 600m in 34.70. Yesterday gets beaten in 1m11.28 carrying 53.5kg with last 600m in 35.84 – No such thing as a good thing eh

Ascot in retrospect.
Saturday-
Race 1 - Nice win by Spirit Of Jules on Saturday and still working up to best rating. Yamunindi continues to improve. Also nice run by Big Dam.
Race 2 - Buster's Yousha ran up to best form at good overs. Nice return by Diamond Dash. Those on Air Pocket did their money at the start.
Race 3 - Party Boy finding form at the right time and improving.
Race 4 - Blinded continues to improve - on an upward spiral.
Race 5 - Son Of Vasac racing upto best. Top run by Miss Torpago. Exit Lane returning to form.
Race 6 - Much improved effort by Superior Star. Miss Belhus returning to form.
Race 7 - Strong win by Early Express. Moon Talk and The Right Money both disappointing.
Race 8 - Both Star Trekking and Orange William performing at their best.
Monday-
Race 1 - Top run by Yarraman, improving considerably on his last start win. Up a kilo in weight, almost 1.5 sec quicker.
Race 2 - Had the fav Narcissism rated 4th in line, so not surprised unplaced. Having said that, strange ride by Harvey, went way too early.
Race 3 - No surprise here, top 3 - Warning Tune, Blue Nonna and Belle De Plume all well rated and performed accordingly.
Race 4 - Yes Paddy, Femme looked to be disappointing, and rated some 1.5 lengths below best. Nice return by Swift Spice.
Race 5 - Good runs by the top 3 - Shirazamatazz, Secret Eye and Golden Prospect. The first 2 were both prior start winners at Pinjarra on the 19th Feb.
Race 6 - Jarnot continues to improve. Has proven that previous top Broome form is comparable. Snooze Control back to best after disappointing last start. Lightly raced All Ferrari should go on with it. Beau Pago looked burly in the ring and will be improved considerably by the run.
Race 7 - Late plunge on Cation came off. Had this horse rated clear top pick and he peformed accordingly.
Race 8 - Strong win by Nitronian another last start winner at Pinjarra. Vampire back to the better form showed when he first arrived in WA. Cent Dancing a bit unlucky. Not a bad run by Tolleshunt - a lightly raced 9YO whose best form goes back to 2001.

To all the west coast members.
Your input is very much appreciated.
It gives those of us, who have taken a liking to WA racing, a chance to back a winner. Your pre and post summaries are excellent and your judgements are just about spot on.
One suggestion, as it does not take long for these threads to run into a few a pages, for each course to have own titled thread.

How quickly can Ascot be affected by rain?
Obviously, from the comment made by WATC representative, it can become a bog very quickly given the right circumstances.
