I'm curious if there are other punters in the forum who have used or are still using Computer Racecards published by Racing and Sports. Have you found them useful?

I have been using them for about 3 months and I'm reasonably impressed with them. I haven't got enough time to go through all the form in the Sportsman, (I'm a Sportsman man - a great formguide). By the way I don't work for Racing & Sports OR the Sportsman. I'm just a regular punter trying to do my best at the game I love - Horse Racing! I just want to make the best of my punting and I'm always looking for new and fresh ideas that I can apply to making punting profitable as well.

Back to the thread. Racing and Sports (R&S) advertise their Computer Cards (CCs) with a caption of Strike Rate 26.7%. On the surface that seems to be quite a low Strike Rate (SR) given that favourites win upwards of 30%+ of their racing and we don't need to do any form. But the SR 26.7% for the top selection is across all meetings, all conditions, all everything. I mean do you really believe the 80% SR that some System Sharks claim? They are unbelievable! Anyway that is their business, good luck to them.

I have used the R&S CCs to play trifectas, quaddies, quinellas as well as simply taking "overs" on the assessed price. I've had mixed success. I have struck trifectas and quaddies in the $2,000 + range, not too often though, they are more like $200 to $500 range. I'm not complaining though at some stage each of these plays seem to level out and then become a slow but steady loss. I just can't quite "put it together" as far as using the CCs goes. I thought for what it is worth that I might make a posting to this forum in the hope that there may be some like minded punters who may wish to engage in an exchange of ideas. Sharing thoughts and inspirations on how they may have made the Computer cards work for them. By itself, the hope is a longshot. Any ideas?

A more recent example would be good Convert.
The one in the blurb is dated 9/9/06.
I have a fairly good memory, but it's not that good!

Thanks for the reply.
As I mentioned in my first post, I'm not associated with R & S or any other racing vendor. I'm not trying to plug the CCs, I'm just looking for ideas on how to use it better. I don't have access to any more recent data that would shed more light on the SR of the CCs. I would like to get a more recent stat on their strike rate, but my experience tells me that 26.7% SR is not too far off. Anyway, that is what I have found.

However I did have a punt today, the Wednesday B grade races. I did use the CCs and I calculated some stats on the results of today's races. There were 5 meetings, a total of 38 races. They ranked 13 winners on top giving a SR of 34.2%. Based on a $1 outlay per selection with the NSW TAB there was a total return of $43.60, giving a POT% of 14.7%.

Now this is too small a sample to be statistically valid but it serves as a quick snap shot of how it is going in a very narrow sense. Anyway, if you are so inclined to share your insights into how to make consistent profits using these ratings I'd love to hear about it.
Good luck

Hi Convert,

As with most ratings and form analysis, it generally goes that the more exposed the form is, the more accurate the selections.

E.g. Leave out Maidens with more than 3 first starters, races where more than 3 horses are first-up etc.

It will be also be handy to keep detailed records on the different classes of races, Metro v Country etc.

Best of Luck!

I wanted to see how the Wednesday results compared to my own ratings so i ran a test using my top 5 selections.

Races 1st Sel 2nd Sel 3rd Sel 4th Sel 5th Sel Total
38 13 12 3 1 2 31
Strike Rate 34.21% 31.58% 7.89% 2.63% 5.26% 81.58%
A/Price 5.03 6.50 12.40 9.90 12.15 6.93
Profit/Loss 27.40 40.00 -0.80 -28.10 -13.70 24.80
POT 13.05%
Wins S/R
Quinella 25 65.79%
Trifecta 16 42.11%
F4 7 18.42%

What this tells me is that they would have had an average day compared to most other ratings services.

Thanks for the replies Shaun and TheSchmile.

[What are the protocols in posting, as far as I can tell, when 2 or more people reply to a post - as you 2 guys did, it seems that I can only reply directly to the last post. Is that correct?]

Shaun, when I was looking at the analysis in your post, I was struck by the exotics in your posts. There are quite a few successful Trifectas, Quins and F4s. Were they derived using the CCs or just your own ratings?

Schmile, what a positive bunch of suggestions! So if I eliminate the underperforming segments e.g. Maidens - as you suggest, then the remaining group of selections will have a greater dilution of better performing horses. That's great, I'll certainly be giving that a try. Possibly other segments may be Mares races, 3yos that race against older horses. Interesting.

Thanks for the response

Anytime Convert, glad to be of assistance.

I suggest really trying to understand how these computer cards tick. Certain tracks are over/underrated by differnent ratings programs.

Another filter could be avoid SA and WA country meets unless the horse is on top and performed AT THE TRACK.

Lastly, Max field size 13 runners might bring the strike rate/profit up.

Go forth and conquer Convert!

These are my ratings that i have posted on the forum including the sheet to run them, i didn't list the exotics with prices but had a look at my lists that contain all the results and i don't think it would have been a profitable day unless you took the top selections as a stand out, those percentages and results are box exotics.

If you use the CC again post up the percentages and pot for the day i will run mine and see how they compare, or i could even post the selections before hand so you can compare the selections.

Hey Shaun,

I mainly just do Saturdays + Public Hols etc. e.g. Melb Cup Tuesdays, Oaks Thursdays.
I'm happy to post Sat results for comparison, although I'm not sure where that would get me. i.e. they are your own private ratings.

Since you are getting them then no harm posting results for comparison.

As i said mine are here on the forum in an excel sheet, you can find the sheet here in this thread.

http://forums.ozmium.com.au/showpost.php?p=257187&postcount=12I only do them once a week, if I can do it I will. BTW having trouble downloading your Excel book. I noticed it is .xlsm so you have some code happening. May need to use the plain vanilla .xls format for broad compatibility.
Good luck on the weekend.
Thanks
