Hi Chrome,
I know you were investigating in par times based on a couple of different theories you had a little while back.
Basically I have come up with a listing of par times I think are close to my calculations based on distances, tracks and rail positions. My biggest problems is track conditions.
Do you have some logic around measuring the time difference or different conditions and if so is it based on different times for a dead 4 and dead 5 or just an adjustment for good to dead.
does that make sense

Hi Vortech,
Unfortunately I've moved right away from this and have deleted my par data.
However, I can shed some light on this.
There is not a blanket +/- for track condition, it depends on the track and distance.
Some tracks slow right down, others aren't quite as affected.
Then add in distance and there is clearly a difference over distances.
I would think you need seperate par times for each track, going and distance.

Thanks very much.

Just continuing a bit with this thread. Is there anywhere you can access par times for various tracks etc. I thought that times may have been on CP's data base and one could do an average, but there are no times there.
I know that R&S do have the "best times" for all tracks/distances/going, but on the odd occasion I have found times there which just could not be true, just the odd one here and there.
Could these times be used as par times, any comments please,
Regards, Paul

Hi Paul,
Just to explain, the time isn't in the current run because the current result is done before the times are fully published. You can however calculated par times and get time data by doing a search under Last Run tab.
Input last run placing 1, run a search and all winners with time where provided by race club are there.

you can download times from the database
what tracks/states are you interested in? I have a few pars if interested. as per usual however, times arent everything.
Im also reading more and more that offical times & secs are way off sometimes.

Hence why many publishers just use track records over distances/conditions

thanks for that Gentlemen. I shall give this is go over the weekend, and see how I go extracting them from CP's database.
I guess I am looking for as many times as I can get my hands on, throughout australia.
Just another one of my brainwaves I would like yo pursue a bit.

Hi Paul
This may be of interest but it's likely biased to USA dirt tracks.

CP,,....help,...! I put this aside for a week or so and am not trying to follow your advice on how to obtain times etc from your data base.
I must be missing something here. Can you please talk (type) me through on how to find all the times for say,..Canberra, at all the distances at that track on each of the states of going, please.
Regards, Paul

I can see it on the search results on the main screen, under "last run", but how can you somehow extract that information to a separate list to export to excel,

Hi Paul,
It's quite easy but looks complicated when I outline it step by step.
Step by step assuming you've done the search and have the results.
You should automatically now be in Browse Mode and not Find Mode.
Select the Last Run tab.
Go to File menu...Export Records.
A dialogue box will pop up for you to save the data and in what format.
If you have Excel 2007 or 2010, save the data as an xlsx and name it something.
Another dialogue box will pop up called Specify Field Order For Export.
On the right hand side bottom is a window called Field export order.
Click the Clear All button next to it, so the window is blank.
Select the fields you want to export by highlighting each field you want on the left hand side window and clicking the button Move.
For example you will probably want Last Run Date, Last Run Venue, Last Run Distance, Last Run Time, Last Run Going.
When you've moved all those fields to the second window, hit the Export button.
The Excel workbook is now saved under the name you gave it in the location you saved it.
Open the workbook, select the top left part of the sheet above the row 1 and to the left of column A. This will highlight the entire sheet.
Select Data Filter in 2010, or Data, Filter, AutoFilter in 2007 or less Excel.
You can now filter for each going and distance.
Let me know if you require any further help.
Once you get the hang of it, it will only take a minute or two.

CP, thanks very much for that, I'm just printing out your instructions now, and shall see how I go figuring this out. Most interesting indeed,

CP, one question at this stage. At times in the File Menu, Export Records is greyed out. What should I be clicking on to rectify that,

Paul,
If it is greyed out, either you are still in Find mode, or you hit enter instead of pressing the Search button.
The search button activates a script and rolls through a number of hidden processes.
You can correct a problem by hitting the Modify search button and then hitting the search button again.
It should be active then.

Thanks CP for your help in this. It has allowed me to fill in a lot of gaps with times around the countryside. Initially I tried to use the times in R&S but they are "best times" for all tracks/distances/going, and I did find mistakes sprinkled here and there.
I've now "obtained" par times for tracks based on the average of the 10 best times and my list is expanding with the info you supplied. I spent a week setting up an excel spreadsheet where I can copy and paste form and rate the last 3 races with a couple of other small factors thrown in.
I really only intended to do this for saturdays racing at sydney and melbourne, however yesterday I decided to rate the Coffs Harbour meeting (I usually go to it). Race 5, a 1600m race it threw up the winner rated on top, paid $18.60,.....then in the CUP Erinsea was rated on top, run 3rd. In the last race a 1000m sprint, just for interest sake I backed the top 3 raters, with Auld Leng Sein, being the top rated horse and winning at around 60/1. Musta been a fluke,.!!!!
Something that I noticed in a heap of the "last 3 starts" at various local tracks was the odd distances,....1403,......1410,....even 1401,....and the list goes on. I'm not sure why tracks have to persistantly do this. It does throw out my VLOOKUP formulas, such a pain. It seems to happen at a fair few of the melbourne tracks also, not so much in the sydney tracks, they seem very stable.

The odds distances I find come about from the change in rail positions. The position can affect the times at each distance too.

But what can you do about it, nothing really. All I do is say for a 1410, I just divide my time by 1400 and multiply by 1410. And add that time to my VLOOKUP table so that the formulas can pick it up,
