This one would probably suit Barny who thinks outside the square.
That is those who use no formulated punting practice.
When you get a series of scratchings
i.e Numbers 789,234, 12 13 14 etc
Bet is the one above the 1st scratching and the one below the last scratching as long as you can get a minimum of $3 .
i.e Canberra R 8 - 8 9 10 11 scratched so selections are 7 +12
Is this good or is this good.

As above but no other scratchings (In which case Canb R 8 would fit in.)

WARNING: OLDER MEN ********
A 'heads up' for those men who may be regular customers at Bunnings,Mitre 10, Super Cheap Auto, BCF, or any other Blokey type shop.
This one caught me totally by surprise.
Over the last month I became a victim of a clever ******** while out shopping.
Simply going out to BUNNINGS at Townsville to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic.
Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.
Here's how the ******** works:
Two nice-looking, uni-aged girls will come over to your car or ute as you are packing your purchases into your vehicle.
They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts (It's impossible not to look).
When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' but instead ask for a ride to McDonald's.
You agree and they climb into the vehicle. On the way, they start undressing.
Then one of them starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet.
I had my wallet stolen August 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th,17th, 20th, 24th, & 29th.
Also September 1st & 4th, twice on the 8th, 10th, and very likely again this coming weekend.
So tell your friends to be careful.
What a horrible way to take advantage of us older men.
Warn your friends to be vigilant.
Sams Warehouse and The Reject Shop has wallets on sale for $2.99 each.
I found even cheaper ones at the Salvo's and bought them out of all of their stock in three of their stores.
Please, send this on to all the older men that you know and warn them to be on the lookout for this ********.

You seem to hang off every word I say moeee, and that's a good thing for you. You see moeee, I COULD help you to win on the punt, and win good money. That last system I posted, "the LSW winner 7 days" showed a reasonable POT, a starting POT if you like in the high 20's%. As I said it's not enough to be sure of making a quid given the nature of racing. I tweaked the system and came up with a POT of 149.79% with two additional filters. You'll notice I slightly tweaked the system during 'discussion' and the POT increased ..... but the better filters are those that don't demand attention from all and sundry. I'll repeat that for you moeee, the better filters are those that don't demand attention from all and sundry. Why is that ?? 'Coz the filters that do demand attention will always put your selection into overbet territory. There may be a slight POT at times but it's unsustainable moeee.
Nice to see you're following my threads moeee, I hope you get something out of it and turn your punting around from being a loser to winning substantial amounts of cash on a regular basis.

Where are all the interesting members posting?
It's all changed moeee. I found the best and most robust discussions on here happened years ago and discussion was primarily based around horses, their fitness, systems, handicapping, etc etc. I find that most of the discussion now is centred on ratings, odds, etc ..... less to do with the horses themselves and more to do with gambling.
It obviously suits most posters, but being an older phart, I preferred t'other.

Sounds like me at the pub the other night.

Vortech, it's dinkum, and I believe that those with a decent database will be able to confirm that it's absolutely possible to get these results. My thread was to show that the LSW 7 days was a load of crud, and I posted an alternative that showed a POT in the high 20's%. It wasn't one of my original systems.
It's logical ..... It's based on the TW with no wins in it's last 5 runs and backing up again 7 days later ..... and I guarantee you that I'm not the only one who could get this system to 149% POT. It has 111 selections over 13 years which is nowhere near enough for most to even contemplate backing it, but the rules are logical aren't they Vortech ?? They find the handicappers favourite, a fit horse and one overdue for a win ..... pretty simple base for a system !!

This is the part that doesn't make sense to me.
Explain to me , how does it make any difference , whether it took 13 years or whether it took 13 weeks?
You seem to be suggesting Barny , that 111 selections over 13 years is far and away more impressive than 111 selections over 13 weeks.
If I went to the casino 111 times in 13 years and won a Total of $600.
Or if I went 111 times in one year , that's twice a week . and won a Total of $600.
Is one or the other more impressive?

You seriously can't take confidence out of sampling size of 111 selections.
What Strike Rate do you have?Vortech, I'm betting around $1,000 per bet, far in excess of what I've done in the past, so yes, I do have confidence in a small sample as it's spread over a decade and the results are consistent.
My main go however is my longshot system which is based around unexposed form ..... It throws up one or two bets per week and obviously I dont spend a grand on these but I do punt them seriously.
Vortech, if you stick with the "tried and true" you'll have many friends but you'll lose as have all punters who've gone before you with this modus operandi ..... Believe me.
Some of my systems have a SR of less than 20% others greater than 35%, but they're all consistent over a decade and all are logical "from a trainers" point of view. There's no backfitting ..... too much money at stake to be so stoopid !!!
Vortech
15th September 2012, 06:26 PM
I think sometimes you need to be careful especially with bets that size.
You have a run of between 10 to 20 and your down a lot of money. Racing involves a lot of luck. You can have a system that gives you the horse that has the greatest fitness, the greatest speed etc... but the best horses lose all the time.
I'm testing a system at the moment with 200 selections for the win and down by 8 units on unitab.
However, there was two horses paying $22 and $41 that went down in a photo.
Give me one of those wins and you have a good profit. You just don't know if you have a winning or losing system.
Good luck
Barny
15th September 2012, 06:37 PM
Racing involves a lot of luck. It's not about luck. It's all about betting on a horse that has a decent chance and has been dismissed by 99% of punters for whatever reason. I have a method / methods that select just this type of conveyance. BTW, I discount by a fair margin, long odds winners.
If you're on the 'unloved' then you're not subject to your selection being overbet ?? ..... are you ?? ..... and arguably you're not subject to the many changing aspects of racing / patterns / cycles ??
Half a dozen / dozen bets per month suits me just fine.
rails run
15th September 2012, 07:45 PM
Some are happy with a few bets a month and some prefer plenty more. Neither are wrong as there are plenty of ways to skin a cat.
Barny finds profit at the fat end of the market and Chrome found it at the skinny end. Why is it so important to brow beat ones beliefs? Without the opposite view one doesn't have a market so accept the opposite camp with gratitude. They'll take some from you and you'll take some from them.
I am using common form knowledge profitably so that's what gets my attention. My selections are mainly single digit odds. I haven't yet met anyone who makes their living from horses who doesn't use common knowledge form assessment but I'm open to the possibility that some pros could be quite alternate. It would be plain rude, insulting and egotarian to claim "my way is the only way and if you're not with me you're a sheep that enjoys eternal losses."

Metro only (well usually!)
Horse < 6 career runs
No one knows much about it ..... Definitely NO young horse hype
No wins
Trainer must have given a clue as to it's ability by running it in a decent Metro race in it's previous campaign (mebbe even a Group Race)
On the limit weight (Off everyon'e radar !!)
AND either .....
2nd up, or 3rd up after a poor first up / second up performance with possible excuses (hvy track, raced erratically, vetted), I like it when the horse has a tongue tie on which indicates it may have choked up, or it get's blinkers first time ..... BUT ..... there must be written evidence in the narrative of the form guide for a possible excuse (we don't just back horses with gear changes) ..... As you and I know darkydog2002, the unwashed have info handed to them but dont know how to use it.
or .....
Increasing in distance at it's 2nd / 3rd start whilst continuing to maintain it's "poor form".

I told ya we,d be good together. You need to throw out everything you've ever learned about horse racing, handicapping, and form to be able to punt this system. You'll arrive at your selection and then look at the race and realise it cannot possibly win, there's at least half a dozen horses better than the one selected. But we're not going for the obvious here, we're going for the possible (with a clue from the trainer) and taking the massive overs for being ..... well ..... fools !!! , nah scratch "fools" and substitute world leaders in investment strategies.

Geez, I'll have a butchers but country dogs !!!! What's the pool ???? The only way I could ever win at the dogs without going to the track was by backing the favourtie in the best race of the night at either a Metro track, or a country track if it was one of their better yearly meetings.
So, I'm now supposed to put myself in moeee's hands, (the same moeee who has TOU'd me more times than he cares to remember), ..... bet at the country dogs where the quality of animal would be comparable to my mutts at home, ..... and end up taking unders because I've brought the odds in on a small pool ????? ..... A true story. I used to go to the dogs in the same vehicle (a Valiant SW from memory), with a dog who happened to win it's first 13 runs at Olympic Park and Sandown. One of those in our car was a "$20 punter" who was best mates with the trainer (the driver of the car). This "$20" punter ended up paying his house off because he just kept backing this dog and ended up a big punter in a short space of time. This dog never ever started at prohibitive odds, it was always around 2's on to 6 /4 against or thereabouts. Maybe later it was pretty short but the money was won by then (not by me BTW). It strikes me that the best way to win at the dogs is to find a good dog, trained by the best trainer, and just keep backing it. I remember all the dogs in the 70's !!!!!
