My intial strip down using some form factors gave me the following:

ETHIOPIA
GREEN MOON
MALUCKYDAY
MY QUEST FOR PEACE
KELINNI
GLENCADAM GOLD
TAC DE BOISTRON
LIGHTS OF HEAVEN
ZABEELIONAIRE

I then eliminated a few on price ranges (the winner ususally is in the range of $6 to $20 which is usually the shorter priced horses in the melbourne cup) and this left me with:

ETHIOPIA
GREEN MOON
MY QUEST FOR PEACE
MALUCKYDAY
KELINNI

I would probably also rule out MALUCKYDAY due to it contesting and not winning previously.

So my early tips this year would be these ones (in order):

ETHIOPIA ($19)
MY QUEST FOR PEACE ($17)
KELINNI ($19)
GREEN MOON ($16)

I know its early but anyone else got any thoughts.

So how does anyone rate those having their 1st start down-under
i.e. Cavalryman, Mount Athos, Fiorente & Galileo's Choice

Historically they have all fared extremely poorly. For this reason I would rule themn all out regardless of how good they are.

Look at Black Caviar when she went to the UK. Her only start was way below her usual performance. It gives me cause for concern that they are feeling the effects of travel and that is why they have been saved for just one big race.

According to chief handicapper(on Outsiders this am).. It's also about avoiding the penalty they might receive if they did well in lead up race(s).

Would be a calculated gamble i guess between running them (penalty) v leaving them fresh (stats against them getting up in the cup) ?

The other Luca Cumani starter My Quest For Peace also looks a good chance if he can run a strong 2 mile
From barrier 1 should get a good run just off the pace

don’t mind Cavalryman or Galileo's Choice, 3200 won’t be a problem for either & they’re not badly weighted
don’t mind the local Kelinni either, in great form, carrying just the 51kgs

Tough race to sort out but I am settling on these

1. Galileo's Choice
2. Mount Athos
3. Maluckyday
4. Americain
5. Cavalryman

you have to draw a line somwhere and I guess this is where it stops for me there are plenty of others I could include Ethiopia, Zabeelionaire, Red Cadeaux, Dunaden, Green Moon, Winchester are the most prominant in my mind if the rain comes that changes things aswell

All I can say is if your having a bet good luck you'll need it

lol not really mate she is less than 2 weeks old we just held the paper up in front of her and that was what she pointed to my other daughter picked Tac De Biostren so it didn't go so well there.

funnily enough a couple of years ago when the other daughter was roughly 3 months old we did the same trick for her and she picked Americain back then I had $20 E/W on it the money has gone into piggy banks for them both one day they can enjoy it :)

There was a bookie in Moree who was called Hitchins, I think his name was Ernie from memory. I'll have a look for this Max later on, not a common name so I'm guessing they may well be related.

OK, so here's my hard luck Cup story from yesterday, it isn't bad....

Had a 3/14 quinella x $10...finished 1st and 3rd...not sure what the approx divvy was but I'm guessing $700...pretty close to $7k.

Had a tri 3/14, 3/14, field for a full unit as well. finished 1st and 3rd...guessing divvy would have been $60k approx....didn't have enough mohicans to go 3/14, field, 3/14 etc

Had a 6 horse box for a full unit as well...3,14 and 4 others...but not the 11....

I didn't back Green Moon.

I have a strange feeling that I may have missed the boat a little. Such is life.

The end. :)
