IMHO, overall, horses win in the order they are in betting. The fav wins 30% of the time right down to the outsiders which win the least amount of the time. We lose the least amount of money backing the fav's (esp odds on), and take the worst odds when we back horses at 50 / 1 as their real odds should be 500 / 1, if you care to look at the stats. It's a waste of time, esp in the metrop area, trying to define a system to win on the favs. Firstly, the metro betting is an efficient marketplace, and to sway the odds in your favour on the fav so that you can win, given the huge amount of money on the fav, there would have to be a massive imbalance between the odds of the fav and it's chances of winning. This is supposedly overcome by ratings, they find those that are overs, and those that are unders, but all they really contribute too is adding to the imbalance of this efficient marketplace.

There are ways to put the odds in your favour, but you need to change your thinking. You need to do what the others aren't doing. Also why stick to the metro arena when the country offers overs on many horses due to several reasons, some of which I may post later on.

Remember the late "old dreamer" who used to bet Odds for the place and ended up in the poor house.

Betting odds on horses for the win and the punter will end up there too.

Cheers

Barny,

There are some great posts on here about the efficient market. Some of them hint at how to profit from it.

I have a few systems which aim at inefficient markets and they do ok so I understand where you are coming from.

In the days of red wooden telephone boxes with the A and B buttons and it was Her Majesty's Mail ER11, the days when the posty blew his whistle so you knew that your mail was there and at 4am you could hear the clip clop of a draught horse delivering your milk to the doorstep.

The good old days :(

The good old days :(Every Saturday morning for a year, I used to go in at 2AM and help load up the horse cart and then help deliver the bread. I know who was the boss. If you did not keep up with horse, it was not going wait for you. It would stop at the house and as soon as you got to the front gate, it was off.
