I think a year or so ago there was a race with 5-6 Craigleas in the one race and only 2 other horses.

And I'd wondered about all the Geegees racing in Tasmania (i.e. horses with "Geegee" in their name, rather than a reference to horses generally; which there are always a number of, in a horse race). Geegees Stud at Broadmarsh, Tasmania. Another mystery solved.

When I started becoming interested in racing two very good sires were Better Boy and Showdown. Consequently there were lots of ' Betters' and''Shows 'racing. Better Boy went on to be a terrific sire of sires - Century was probably his best son in the breeding barn, Showdown disappeared after a dominant first season. Not sure of what happened to him. Smokey Eyes dominated in Queensland back then so there were a lot of horses with 'Smoke 'or 'Smoky 'in their names. Hope they 're looking down on the scene today - no doubt they'll be shaking their heads in dismay at the shuttle stallion phenomenon.
