So how would a system go for laying the fav in tennis, say under 1.25? I reckon it would still be a loser but I could be wrong.

Probably taking all of them.
But the top 10 men and women are usually always under priced.

Wimbledon 2013 Federer was beaten @ $1.01, Gasquet @ $1.38, Djokovic @ $1.59, Jankovic @ $1.16, Serena Williams @ $1.07.

Mystery punter takes advantage of price error

Nic Ashman - 14/07/2014

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported one TAB punter was offered odds of $2250 about Good Job Bro running a place at Doomben on Saturday.

The TAB put up $9000 about Good Job Bro winning and the punter quickly seized the opportunity to back the John Sargent-trained horse for the place.

The punter locked in $12 at $2250 and when Good Job Bro hit the line for third he collected a cool $27,000.

"It was an error when the prices were put in manually and our policy has always been is to pay on the price that customer has taken," the TAB's Glenn Munsie said. "Good luck to him, I'm available for a drink any day this week with him. There was only one punter who got the big odds as when the bet came through it alerted the attention of the trader to the error."

The Herald went on to report that $9000 is the default price for a scratching in TAB fixed odds markets.

Wasn't me unfortunately.

Cheers.
Garyf.

"...our policy has always been is to pay on the price that customer has taken,"

I picked up some big mistakes on TAB a while ago and they were refunded the next day. I don't mind that they were refunded, mistakes happen, but to go around tooting that "our policy has always been to pay"...

Punter finds $1000 winner

FLYING Aurora delivered the ultimate knockout in the third race at Bendigo on Thursday, **except for one lucky punter.

After starting the despised outsider at $370 on Betfair, the Leon Corstens-trained three-year-old missed the jump and was backed at the highest possible odds of $1000 in the run.

One punter parted with $6 to pocket $6000. The horse started at $41 on the TAB.

Lol, the poor soul(s) that layed it have a little work to do to balance that book

It could possibly have been part of a trade for the losing party.
They never reveal that side of it.
I doubt anyone would risk $6,000 unless the horse lost it's rider or fell over.
I've seen a few trotters gallop at the start lose 20 metres and still win, horses miss the kick and still win.
It was a Heavy 8 track over 1400m, and we all know swoopers in the wet.
The horse had secretly trialled in blinkers and was wearing ear muffs, although it's public trials and past form was bad. Trainer got a warning from the stewards for poor performance and horse was reinstated 3 days before it raced ;)

unlikely trade CP as it was layed in running, looks like a 'error in judgement' to me.

Given that the layer had to have the liability in the bank, obviously, otherwise he would not be able to make the offer, this is likely not just some $6 punter with a bank of a few hundred bucks. Still, for my liking, to pinch $6? 999 right and 1 wrong and you are out. May be a glitch in software or something similar?

Laying these type of long conveniences is fraught with danger; if not from anything else, then from the shock when one wins! Get a few go against you in short succession (wouldn't be impossible) and it's capable to break even the most determined, organized and consistent layer who may have a perfectly good method otherwise.

It's worth having a look at the replay, the nag was slow away & the caller probably made that sound a bit worse than it was, but was it ever anywhere near a 1000/1 chance? yeah, nah

For the backer(s), what a disaster.
There are no certainties in winning or losing in play.

Of course most of it is to do with internet betting - an old mate of mine 25 years my senior who did it hard growing up, lived through the blitz, came to Australia & did alright for himself used to regularly say to me 'people do not appreciate the value of money' & having heard it a 100 times, I would nod & say 'yep, your right' without ever really giving his words the respect or understanding they deserved.

Would anyone in their right mind walk up to a bookie with $10k in hand & take odds of $1.01? Of course not. & that lay bet is even more insane, bordering on certifiable.

If the cash is in your hands & you have to physically part with it, that's a hell of a lot more different than a rushed (maybe panicked?) decision sitting at a computer...just ask any share trader;)

It's generally an intellectual battle on the exchange, but sometimes unexpected gifts appear. 1.01 a lap out.

With all my BOT bets now i leave a few $ on at 600-1 in the running.
this was after a few months ago i won 10k on a night when someone set me at $10000 to $10 for UK hurdler that tailed off by 20L at the half way mark.
It then picked itself up and won by a half head.

Last week i get set for 17c at 600-1 - $120 in the account.

99% of the times i lose or don't get set -but when they are taken and they win they are big results.

Just looked at that race, the horse was under the whip 800m out.
Some desperado has taken all the money available down to 1.01 on the theory that 53% of horses leading at the bell go on to win.
Only problem is he got well under the odds by average and the horse was $1.50 at best, anytime in the run.
I expected him to be leading by 20 metres or something off the back, he was never more than 2.5 metres ahead at any point.

Makes you wonder!
