It seems that some type of dispute is preventing Sky racing from showing the Victoria and NSW racing.

Is this affecting anyone with in-running betting or the like?

Is this the old dispute between TVN and SKY again?

Are you telling me that NSW & VIC racing isn't on SKY anymore? Not home at the moment so I can't check. If so, is the radio broadcast still live to air?

I haven't checked either but they reckon the audio is still live.

This is what they emailed:

Due to contractual restrictions, Sky Racing is currently unable to show vision of NSW and Victorian thoroughbred races on its channels. Instead audio of the race calls will be available. This will not change your ability to place a bet with TAB, all Racing and Sport markets are available as normal.

We apologise to Sky Racing viewers and TAB customers for the inconvenience this will cause.

Sky Racing is committed to finding a long-term solution for the broadcasting of NSW and Victorian thoroughbred racing and resuming full coverage as soon as possible.

Race meetings impacted over the next few days include:

Thursday 18th December - Wyong (NSW), Seymour (VIC)
Friday 19th December - Bathurst (NSW), Lismore (NSW), Moonee Valley (VIC), Yarra Valley (VIC)
Saturday 20th December - Rosehill (NSW), Kembla Grange (NSW), Albury (NSW), Moree (NSW), Flemington (VIC), Wangaratta (VIC), Cranbourne (VIC)
Sunday 21st December - Taree (NSW), Moruya (NSW), Bendigo (VIC), Horsham (VIC)

No big deal, just watch it on TVN.

No big deal, just watch it on TVN.Agreed. But not everyone ahs TVN. Luckily for me I do :)

Its actually one of the things I hate about SKy. THey keep throwing meetings which were on sky1 over to sky2. That isn't right as most people don't have sky2. Again Luckily for me I do :)

There's always the old leather covered wireless.
They used to have no vision at all in TABs and a grandpa wireless (not radio) sitting up on a shelf. Yep, i'm that old!

God help punters, like myself that rely on vision to place bets in the last few seconds before the jump, if we have to only rely on listening to commentators for a clue of when they're about to start.

Vision has taken the edge off their skill level, spoilt them. They're usually waffling on about any old rubbish when they jump! I've heard them countless times say, " they're all loaded" and you can see for yourself that there's still one or two to load.

I'm in the same boat as you, and would be out of business if I didn't have vision.
I nearly had a heart attack the other day when there was no vision on sky.
I googled and found the reason so rang my cable co to see if I could get TVN. Luckily I can but had to change my whole subscription package to get it.

So now it's Sky and TVN just switch between the two depending where the meeting is.

It's scary when you think about how the bookmaker/exchange and service providers are changing tactics almost from week to week. You just get settled into a methodology and you have to adapt to a new attack on your expectations. When will it end?

You just get settled into a methodology and you have to adapt to a new attack on your expectations. When will it end?I totally agree it is scary, but we just have to try to stay one step ahead.
Punting for a living is like sitting on a fence, fall one way and you are happy, fall the other way and you feel like crap. Well I do anyhow, I don't sit in front of this screen everyday just for the fun of it, and I hate grinding away all day with the stress just to lose $$$$. It happens, can't do anything about it, because that's the game we play, and that is one reason I stop when I have made a decent day's wage, does wonders for ones mind. Per example today 1 bet and finished before the main meetings started.
The other matter too is the net dropping out, and all the other problems of betting on line etc etc, and of course it is usually Murphie's Law that the problem happens at the wrong time.
Now I've had my whinge I will now admit I would not like to be doing anything else for a living.

I have to say TVN coverage sucks. They are not prepared to run this many meetings.

I have to say TVN coverage sucks. They are not prepared to run this many meetings. What gives me the horrors about them is interviewing trainers from a previous race and playing replays when there is only seconds to go before the start of the next. There was one occasion today when they crossed from one of these interviews and they jumped as the next race came on the screen.
I don't give a damn what happened in the last race or how the trainers grandmother is, I am only interested in the next race.
I actually have just finished, having a real battle of a day.I got out on Taree R6 with the winner but sadly only for a place.

That is exactly what I was talking about. They are suited to having time between each race. They can not cope with jumping from meeting to meeting.

I hope SKY and TVN get all this argy bargy sorted out soon, because after using TVN especially on busy days like today they can shove it where the sun doesn't shine.
You also have to have the sound muted, because the garbage the commentators carry on with drives one crazy, they think they are working for comedy central.
At least with SKY you get some serious commentary from the presenters.
SKY is certainly not perfect and I often have a whinge about them,BUT this TVN is absolute GARBAGE.

I didn't watch it today. I've given up watching TVN. This was their big opportunity to grab subscribers and they haven't done themselves any favours.

No offence to any of the presenters on either channel, BUT, they are all jokey, blokey, illiterate, sycophantic rubbish. Nowhere else is there such utter trash spoken. There is one bloke on sky who would put you to sleep leading up to the biggest race of the year. I cannot find a good word for any of them.

Rant over.

I agree, they're fixated with camera footage of the parade ring! They think they've hit the big time but just don't GET IT! Punters don't want to be flicking between stations, that's just upsetting the hands that feed you.

As for commentary I always mute the sound for both stations. I just want to see them load, jump and who won.

Sky Channel will be asked to shelve a $5 a month subscription for its extra two channels when it seizes the rights to racing in NSW in a move designed to mirror the free premium content structure offered by beleaguered broadcaster TVN.

In a rare win for increasingly frustrated punters caught in the middle of racing's television war, Racing NSW boss Peter V'landys confirmed it would negotiate a new long-term agreement with Sky and Foxtel only on the premise that all vision was provided free

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/horseracing/foxtel-sky-asked-to-waive-fee-for-extra-channels-in-bid-for-nsw-rights-20141228-12emf4.html

Yay For NSW for making a good decision. They have actually done more for the punter on the last year then any other state. At least they understand people don't like this flicking and really Sky is the channel most punters watch. Victoria Racing won't keep TVN afloat. Its not in their best interests to put tens of millions of dollars into a losing venture unless they are stubborn. This could be the end of TVN.

I also like that SKy2 and Sky world might be free very soon.

I thought this summed it up really well.

A quote from a comment from "Seve" on racenet

People say we have the best racing in the world.......then surely we must have the worst administrators in the world. ...at all levels. Clubs, and their incompetent committees, run their own race.....States compete against each other. Three TABS,....different rules and/or different interpretations of them in each state, a useless ineffective national body , corporates bleeding the punter and dispatching the profits overseas, Two TV providers at each other's throat, Is there someone, somewhere who could organise a great sport into a national one so that everyone can benefit.

That's good to hear UB. A free Sky 2 would be good because occasionally a race that I am interested in runs late and goes over to sky2 but I can't watch it.
